In this review, I’ll be comparing two flippable beds from the same company: the original Layla mattress and the Layla Hybrid mattress. Although they both feature two different firmness options and appeal to a variety of sleepers, they also have some key differences I want to uncover.
I’m going to compare various components of both of them, from their constructions to their firmness levels, to help you decide which one’s the best mattress for you.
Alright, enough preamble. It’s time for Layla vs Layla Hybrid! As always, you can read on for our full comparison or skip down to my review summary if you’re in a rush.

Layla vs Layla Hybrid Video Review
Layla vs Layla Hybrid: Which is Better for You?
Both these mattresses have a firm side and a soft side you can choose from, but depending on factors like your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and whether or not you sleep with a partner or pet, one bed may suit your needs better than the other. Take a look at some of my recommendations below.
Who Should Buy the Layla
- Those in search of a memory foam feel should like the Layla and its foam layers.
- I think anyone disturbed easily by their partner or pets’ movements will enjoy the strong motion isolation this bed offers.
- Budget shoppers should appreciate the Layla’s affordable price.
Who Should Buy the Layla Hybrid
- Anyone looking for a more supportive bed with a traditional feel will appreciate the springs in the Layla Hybrid.
- This is a good mattress option for combo sleepers and sleepers looking for a responsive and bouncy bed. They should be able to move around and change positions without a problem.
- Although both Laylas have strong cooling abilities, I think the coils in this bed help make it a better choice for hot sleepers since they promote more airflow.
Layla vs Layla Hybrid: Similarities and Differences
Let’s take a look at the key similarities and differences between these two mattress siblings with flippable designs. I’d also recommend looking at our full Layla mattress review and full Layla Hybrid mattress review for more detailed info.
Main Similarities
- Both mattresses are flippable, so that means they have a soft side and a firm side you can choose between. I’ll cover this more later on in this comparison, but this makes them great choices for most people since they can appeal to a wide group of sleeping positions.
- They both have copper infusions in their foam, which helps keep the bed cooler for any hot sleepers out there.
- They both do a good job isolating motion, so you shouldn’t be too disturbed by a partner or pet’s movements on the other side of the bed.
Differences
- The Layla Memory Foam is made of all foam layers, while the Layla Hybrid combines both foams and individually wrapped coils.
- The Layla Hybrid has better edge support, so it’s more supportive for sleepers to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed, which is great for couples wanting to use the full surface of the mattress.
- The Layla does a better job isolating motion with its all-foam layers.
Layla and Layla Hybrid Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s talk about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body type, weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Layla
I gave the Layla’s soft side a 5.5 out of 10 and its firm side 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so it has a soft- to medium-soft side and a true firm side. The soft side offers contouring and a pillowy feel, while the firm side keeps you lifted up and comfy.
Layla Hybrid
I gave the Layla Hybrid’s soft side a 5 out of 10 and its firm side 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. So, it’s a little softer than the Layla overall. The soft side has a sinking-in, cushiony feel and the firm side keeps you more propped up on top of the bed.
Comparing What It’s Like to Sleep on the Layla and Layla Hybrid
As mentioned earlier, your body type and sleep style will determine how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers:
Layla
Back — I think back sleepers could like either firmness side of this all-foam bed depending on their personal preference, but I would recommend they start with the firm side for more support around their lower back.
Side — Side sleepers should do best on the soft side of the Layla Memory Foam mattress and get nice sinkage and contouring around their pressure points.
Stomach — Stomach sleepers should opt for the firm side to have their hips lifted and spine aligned. A firm mattress can help prevent back pain.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, a mattress is going to feel firmer to you than a sleeper who’s heavier than you. Conversely, if you’re a heavier sleeper, a mattress is going to feel softer to you. I don’t think this will be the best fit for heavier sleepers weighing over 250 pounds and recommend they look for a more supportive bed, like one of our best innerspring mattresses or one specifically built for heavy sleepers. Our roundup of the best mattresses for heavy people is a great place to look for more options.
Layla Hybrid
Back — I again think back sleepers could like either side, but I would suggest they start with the firm side of the Layla Hybrid to get more support.
Side — Side sleepers will be best suited on the softer side of the Layla Hybrid and get the needed pressure relief from the soft foams.
Stomach — Stomach sleepers should do best on the firmer side for healthy sleep posture.
Body Weight — As noted earlier, if you’re a lightweight sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. I think heavier back and side sleepers could like this bed, but sleepers weighing more than 300 pounds and heavier stomach sleepers may want to check out a more supportive bed.

Comparing Layla and Layla Hybrid Mattress Materials
Now that we’ve gone over the firmness and feel of these beds, let’s go over their layers to see the full construction of each Layla. The Layla is 10.5 inches in height, while the Layla Hybrid is 13 inches in height. I’ll also point out Layla’s foams are CertiPUR-US® Certified, which means they’re free of harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and ozone depleters.
We’ll be looking at the layers with the soft side of the mattress on the top.
Layla Memory Foam
Cover – The Layla has a unzippable cover that’s a blend of polyester, rayon, and viscose. It’s soft, breathable, and stretchy.
Comfort Layer – Below the cover of the soft side is copper-infused gel memory foam. This helps draw heat away from the body and keep sleepers cool.
Transition Layer – Then there’s a layer of Layla’s Max Airflow Support Foam to ease sleepers into the next support layer.
Support Layer – The Layla has a high-density support core foam as its support layer. This is sturdy and has minimal bounce.
Comfort Layer (for firm side) – Here there’s another copper-infused memory foam layer but with a firmer feel.
Firm Side Cover – The firm’s side cover is the same as the soft side, but it is black in color while the soft side’s is white.
Layla Hybrid
Cover – The Layla Hybrid has the same cooling polyester-blend cover that’s unzippable.
Comfort Layer – Here is a layer of memory foam with copper infusions and a plush feel. This offers nice sinkage, conforms to the body, and helps keep sleepers cool.
Transition Layer – The Layla Hybrid has a layer of the Max Airflow Support Foam to allow air to flow through the bed and also keep the sleeper supported.
Base Layer – The Hybrid’s support layer is individually wrapped pocketed coils for extra support and bounce.
Transition Layer – Below the coils is another layer of the Max Airflow support foam.
Comfort Layer (for firm side) – Here is another layer of copper-gel memory foam for the firm side of the mattress, but it has a firmer and more supportive feel than the soft side.
Firm Side Cover – The firm side has the same cover wrapped around the entire bed. The Layla Hybrid’s cover also has handles to more easily flip it.

Layla Customer Service
Below, I’ll give the brand’s customer service team a score based on our own personal experience interacting with them. Possible scores include stellar, great, satisfactory, and poor.
Layla Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Stellar: I gave Layla a stellar rating because they have a chat feature on their website where you can quickly connect with a customer support agent. The representative was quick to answer my questions and it didn’t feel like they were sending pre-typed responses. Layla also has support agents available by phone.
