Who Should Buy Puffy Royal
- Those who like softness but don’t want to feel enveloped by their mattress will likely prefer the Puffy Royal, as it is a little firmer than the Puffy Lux and not quite as contouring.
- The Puffy Royal tested better for edge support, so this bed may work nicely for couples looking to spread out on the bed or for seniors and folks with mobility issues who need to use the support of the edge to get in and out of bed.

Now let’s go over what makes these mattresses similar, as well as what makes them different from one another.
Main Similarities
- These mattresses are both made by Puffy, so they come with the same free shipping, 101-night sleep trial, and lifetime warranty.
- Both of these beds are soft mattresses that can work well for back, side, or back/side combination sleepers.
- Both of these mattresses are hybrids, using a combination of foams and coils in their construction. The use of coils, which allow for airflow in the bed, also make these beds decent options for hot sleepers.
Main Differences
- While both beds are soft, the Puffy Lux is much softer than the Royal and offers much more sinkage.
- The Puffy Royal has an additional foam layer with cushioning zones, which also makes it two inches taller than the Lux.
- The Puffy Lux is a bit cheaper than the Royal.
Puffy Lux and Puffy Royal Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s talk about how these mattresses feel. Here at Sleepopolis, we rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm.
Puffy Lux
We rated the Puffy Lux as a 5.5 out of 10, meaning it is quite soft. It feels very plush and you can easily sink into the foams. Because of this, it is not a very responsive mattress — meaning it can take some effort to move around or switch between sleeping positions. However, it also means you’ll experience plenty of pressure relief and comfy contouring.
Puffy Royal
We rated the Puffy Royal as a 6 out of 10, meaning it softer than average but a little firmer than the Lux. The Royal doesn’t offer quite as much sinkage as the Lux, so you won’t feel quite as “sunken” into the mattress. Still, you should experience some contouring from the upper foams. The Royal is a little more responsive, so it is easier to move between sleeping positions.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Puffy Lux and the Puffy Royal
As I mentioned before, different people will have different experiences sleeping on the same mattress. Two of the main factors to consider are primary sleeping position and weight. Each sleeping position requires different levels of pressure relief and support, while people with different body weights can require different levels of support. Let’s go over how each of these beds should work for different sleeping positions and body types.
Puffy Lux
Back — I think the Puffy Lux is very comfortable for back sleeping, as it provides plenty of cushioning around the lower back and shoulders, while still feeling supportive. However, some back sleepers may prefer a slightly firmer feel for spinal alignment.
Side — The Puffy Lux is an ideal mattress for side sleepers, as its soft foams provide lots of pressure relief around the shoulder and hip. I found it very comfortable for sleeping on my side.
Stomach — I don’t think the Puffy Lux is a good mattress for stomach sleepers. It is too soft, as stomach sleepers need a firmer feel that keeps their hips lifted up and out of the structure of the mattress to maintain spinal alignment and prevent back pain. I definitely felt my hips sinking into this bed.
Body Weight — Overall, I think the Puffy Lux can work for light to average weight sleepers. It may feel slightly firmer to lightweight sleepers, who weigh 130 pounds or less, than it does to average weight folks. However, I don’t think it offers enough support for most heavy sleepers who weigh 250 pounds or more. See our best mattresses for heavy people for better options.
Puffy Royal
Back — I think the Puffy Royal is a great choice for back sleepers. It has a soft feel and provides some contouring, but still keeps you feeling “on top” of the bed. Plus, the coils provide nice support.
Side — The Puffy Royal should work well for side sleepers. It is still soft enough to provide pressure relief, even though it is not as soft as the Lux. I felt very comfortable side sleeping on this mattress.
Stomach — Like the Puffy Lux, the Puffy Royal is too soft for most stomach sleepers. Some lightweight folks who weigh 130 pounds or less may do okay, but overall, I wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers and would instead suggest a firm mattress.
Body Weight — The Puffy Royal should work for light to average weight people, like the Lux. However, it also is not supportive enough for most heavy people, who weigh 250 pounds or more.
