Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Video Review

Is the Sutera Dream Deep a Good Pillow for You?

The best pillow for one person can be the worst pillow for another, so let’s go over some quick recommendations of who I think might get the most out of the Sutera Dream Deep pillow and who should skip it.

sutera dream deep pillow 2

Who Should Try the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow

  • Back sleepers should find the Sutera Dream Deep pillow provides comfortable neck support.
  • Some combination sleepers may do well on this pillow, as it is designed to work for all three sleeping positions (although it is not a top pick for either full-time stomach or side sleepers).
  • Memory foam lovers should enjoy the cushioning this pillow provides.

Who Should Not Try the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow

  • This pillow’s unique shape may make it difficult to fit into your pillowcase, if a matching bed set is important to you.
  • Shoppers looking for a king size pillow will also likely want to consider another option.
  • Hot sleepers likely won’t get much body temperature relief from this pillow, as it doesn’t offer any cooling features.

What Does the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Feel Like?

Now let’s go over how the Sutera pillow feels. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, so you may have a different experience than I did.

Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Firmness

Here at Sleepopolis, we rate a pillow’s firmness as either soft, medium, or firm. Each firmness level is best suited to a different sleeping position: soft for stomach sleepers, medium for back sleepers, and firm for side sleepers, although there can be some variation.

Lying on this pillow, I felt it overall had a medium firmness. The memory foam feels like pretty classic memory foam, allowing for some contouring but also providing firm support. While the pillow has a unique butterfly shape with a center cut-out for the sleeper’s neck and contoured foam for resting the arms, it actually didn’t feel very odd or different from more “standard” pillows once I was lying on it, although I did definitely feel like my neck was very supported on this pillow.

Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Loft

Another way we assess a pillow is by looking at the loft, or height. Like firmness, different lofts are best suited for different sleeping positions. We categorize pillows as having a low, medium, or high loft, with low being best for stomach sleepers, medium being best for back sleepers, and high being best for side sleepers.

I’d describe the Sutera Dream Deep pillow as having a medium loft, especially considering the neck cut-outs.

Now let’s go over how each sleeping position might feel with the Sutera Dream Deep pillow.

Side — I had mixed feelings about side sleeping on this pillow. While it wasn’t totally uncomfortable, I didn’t feel I was getting quite enough neck support in this position. Side sleepers need the most neck support, as they have the most space between their neck and the mattress. Additionally, while the arm contours are supposed to provide a place to rest your arm around the pillow on your side, I found them slightly awkward and uncomfortable.

Back — I think this Sutera pillow is a fantastic choice for back sleepers. Its medium firmness and medium loft are ideal for those who prefer sleeping on their back. This pillow provides just enough lift and neck support to maintain a neutral neck, without causing your neck to be pushed up. Additionally, the arm contours make for a very comfy place to put your arms up overhead if you’re a back sleeper who enjoys that position.

Stomach — Like side sleeping, I had mixed feelings about stomach sleeping on the Sutera. Overall, I felt it was too firm and tall for me to comfortably sleep on my stomach. Stomach sleepers generally need a soft, low loft pillow to prevent neck strain, so this makes sense. However, one thing I did love is how the arm contours on the pillow make a nice setup for falling asleep with your arms raised overhead while on your stomach.

Under the Arm — I don’t think the Sutera Dream Deep pillow works well for sleeping with it under the arm, due to the unique shape of the pillow.

Between the Legs — Similarly, I think the shape of this pillow makes it awkward for this position.

What is the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Made Of?

Now let’s take a closer look at what this pillow is made of.

sutera dream deep pillow cover

Cover: The Sutera Dream Deep pillow’s cover is made from 100 percent polyester microfiber. This cover can be removed and machine washed.

Fill: The pillow is filled with a solid block of polyurethane memory foam, formed into a butterfly shape with what Sutera calls a “neck nook” and arm contours on the sides. The foam used in the Sutera Dream Deep pillow is CertiPUR-US certified.

Is the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Good for Hot Sleepers?

I don’t think the Sutera Dream Deep pillow is the best option for hot sleepers. Memory foam is known for trapping heat, as is polyester. The pillow doesn’t seem to have any special features to counteract this, so I think heat trapping is likely. I didn’t notice the pillow feeling extremely warm when testing, but it didn’t offer any cooling benefits.

Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Sizes and Prices

Wondering how much this pillow costs? There is only one size available for the Sutera Dream Deep pillow, so there isn’t a range of prices based on size. However, Sutera does offer a discount if you bundle multiple pillows together, so below I’ve detailed the price of one, two, or three Sutera pillows.

Prices listed are before any discounts or offers are applied.

My Final Thoughts About the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow

I was curious to test out this contour pillow, as it is designed to work for all three sleeping positions. After trying all three, I have to say it is best suited for back sleeping. I found my neck was nicely aligned and supported in this position — I think many back sleepers could get a good night’s sleep on the Sutera Dream Deep pillow.

However, I wasn’t as wowed by the side or stomach sleeping experience. For some combination sleepers, who change between multiple positions, the Sutera Dream Deep pillow could be worth it, as it seems workable for these two positions. Still, I wouldn’t recommend it to full-time stomach or side sleepers.

I also appreciated this pillow’s washable cover. Most memory foam pillows’ fill can’t be washed, so including a removable, easy-to-wash cover helps to keep the pillow clean.

Sutera Dream Deep Pillow Vs

Still unsure if the Sutera Dream Deep is the right pillow for you? Let’s compare it to a competitor to help you decide.

Sutera Dream Deep Pillow vs Zamat Butterfly Shaped Cervical Pillow

  • The Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow is also an orthopedic pillow, designed to reduce neck pain and back pain.
  • It has a similar shape to the Sutera, but offers the unique capability to remove a center square of foam to lower the loft or to add a separate insert to make it higher, making it more customizable.
  • This pillow is a great choice for back sleepers and some side sleepers, especially if they add the insert to make the loft higher.
