Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is sure to be one of the biggest hits this year in theaters — and one of the best advertised movies, too. As someone who’s been avidly anticipating this film’s release for months, I’ve had so much fun seeing all the trailers, promotions, and brand collaborations dropping in the lead up to the movie.
One of my favorite collabs of the advertising campaign has to be Barbie x Kitsch. For those who are unfamiliar, Kitsch is a brand specializing in all things hair, selling a variety of hair accessories and hair care products. The entire collaboration collection includes items like a heatless curling set, claw clips, elastics, and scrunchies — all of which are as pink and delightful as you’d imagine — but as a writer who covers sleep products, I knew I had to test out the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase.

Let’s first talk about what this pillowcase is made of.
These satin pillowcases are made from a blend of 97 percent polyester and 3 percent spandex. Made with a satin weave, the pillowcase has a lustrous sheen and soft, smooth feel.
There are two color options available for the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase, appropriately titled “Iconic” and “Malibu.” The “Iconic” pillowcase is bright Barbie pink — a real color trademarked by Mattel — and features an embroidered Barbie logo “B” in the right bottom corner. “Malibu” is inspired by the iconic Malibu Barbie, featuring a light blue checkerboard pattern with pink palm trees and the silhouetted Barbie logo.
Both pillowcases feature a zipper closure and are available in just one size, which is a queen/standard size pillowcase (26 inches by 19 inches). This is different from the regular Kitsch Satin Pillowcases, which are also available in a king size.
What Does the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase Feel Like?
The Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcases have a wonderfully soft and smooth feel. I’ve been a fan of silk and satin pillowcases for a long time and I definitely think these have a high-quality feel. I will say I currently sleep at home on a real silk pillowcase and these definitely feel noticeably like polyester compared to the real thing — however, satin pillowcases share many of the same benefits for skin and hair that silk provides and can still be very high in quality. I was really pleased in testing these out by how silky smooth they feel.
As someone with wavy/curly hair and a history of acne, I really love using silk or satin pillowcases, as they create less friction than other materials and absorb less moisture from your skin and hair. Those factors help to reduce frizz (necessary!) and reduce breakouts. Overall, these pillows provide a really gentle feel, despite their loud and bold designs.
Is the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase Good for Hot Sleepers?
I think these pillowcases are a great choice for hot sleepers. While I don’t normally recommend polyester for hot sleepers — it can trap heat easily — I do think the satin weave gives these pillowcases a cooler feel than other polyester. Now, a real silk pillowcase is the best option for hot sleepers, as silk is cooling and very breathable, but I think many hot sleepers will be happy with the temperature of these pillowcases.
How Durable Is the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase?
I think these pillowcases are quite durable. Polyester satin is a material that should hold up well, provided it is properly cared for. Kitsch recommends washing in cold water with like colors on a gentle cycle, and tumbling dry on low. Additionally, you should wash the pillowcases zipped up, to prevent the zipper from being damaged.
Does the Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase Stay on the Pillow?
Yes! These pillowcases easily stay on the pillow, thanks to their zipper closures. I love this feature because silk and satin pillowcases can be quite slippery, so with a standard closure it is very easy for these types of pillowcases to slip off.

- If you hate pillowcases that slide off the pillow, you’ll definitely appreciate the zipper closures on these Barbie pillowcases.
Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase Complaints
- I wish Kitsch offered these pillowcases in a king size, like they do with their regular satin pillowcases.
- If you prefer a true silk pillowcase to cheaper satin, these may not be the best option for you as they are made of primarily polyester. However, I would recommend checking out our best silk pillowcases for better options.
- If you love Barbie, but hot pink and palm trees don’t match your aesthetic, then these pillowcases may not be the best choice for you. They are bold, so they won’t necessarily match everyone’s bedroom. Don’t fret — check out some of Kitsch’s other Barbie offerings. There could be some rhinestone scrunchies or pink elastics that could satisfy your Barbie desires.
Barbie x Kitsch Satin Pillowcase Prices and Sizes
Wondering how much these Barbie pillowcases cost? Currently, they cost $22 for one pillowcase at full retail, but Kitsch offers a dollar off the unit price if you buy two or three dollars off if you buy four — so $44 for two pillowcases and $76 for four pillowcases. Compared to the non-Barbie Kitsch satin pillowcases, the Barbie collab pillowcases are just three dollars more than the regular price — $22 vs $19.
