A cooling weighted blanket is just like a regular weighted blanket, but has some features that help it to combat heat, such as breathable or cooling materials. Weighted blankets are a popular bedding item — they’re just like regular blankets, but feature some weighted material to make them heavy. Many feature an inner blanket filled with the weighted material, with a detachable duvet cover.
Weighted blankets were originally invented as a therapeutic tool for children with autism, anxiety, ADHD, or other conditions that make it difficult for them to calm down. That’s because weighted blankets employ Deep Pressure Touch, which is the physical sensation our bodies get from hugging or cuddling that promotes production of serotonin and melatonin and reduces production of cortisol. Essentially, it’s how touch physically calms our bodies. Weighted blankets create that same effect, without the physical touch of another person or a pet.
Because of their weight (and often thick, fuzzy covers), weighted blankets can get fairly warm — hence why many companies have started to make cooling weighted blankets.
How to Choose a Cooling Weighted Blanket
There are a variety of factors to consider when shopping for a cooling weighted blanket. Let’s go over some common ones.
Materials
