DreamCloud vs WinkBed: Construction & Feel Differences
Now that you know whom these beds could work for, let’s get into how these mattresses actually feel. To do that, I’m going to assess them for a few different factors, including firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, and bounce.
But before we do that, a small note to say that all feel factors are inherently subjective and could change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my read of these beds could very well differ from your own. For context, I’m 5’10”, weigh 190 lbs, and typically sleep on my stomach.
What’s the Firmness Difference?
My colleagues and I rate firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. It’s important to note that firmness can be subjective, but we consider 6.5, or medium-firm, to be the industry standard for a mattress.
In my opinion, the DreamCloud mattress is about a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this mattress is definitely on the firmer side of things.
The WinkBed mattress, on the other hand, is available in four different firmness levels: Softer, Luxury Firm, Firmer, and Plus. I tested the Luxury Firm option, which I also rated as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It follows that the Softer and Firm models would be softer and firmer than a 7 out of 10, respectively.
What Does Each Mattress Feel Like?
The two beds have the same firmness rating, but that doesn’t mean they’ll feel the same.
The DreamCloud mattress is dominated by its pocketed coil system, which brings plenty of bounce, firmness, and support to its structure. While you’re likely to sink into the top layers of soft foam at the shoulders and hips, the coils quickly counteract this sinkage with a pleasantly buoyant lift. This level of support could work well for a wide range of sleepers, particularly those who struggle with back pain. I also think the DreamCloud mattress is one of the best mattresses for hip pain relief. Its pocketed coils work to position the hips in line with the shoulders for a healthy, neutral alignment from crown to foot. Strict side sleepers, however, might find the DreamCloud mattress a bit too firm for their needs. These folks typically want a softer structure that lets them sink in for deep pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
Though the Luxury Firm WinkBed is certainly a supportive bed, it’s also quite pressure-relieving thanks to its gentle pillow top layer. This section provides plenty of cushion at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. For that reason, I’d recommend it to heavier side sleepers. Back sleepers might also enjoy the combination of pressure relief and support they’ll get from this mattress. Additionally, the WinkBed mattress is that quite bouncy, which is good news for combination sleepers. These sleepers should find it easy to switch positions throughout the night on this bed.

DreamCloud vs WinkBed Comparing Mattress Performance
I run every mattress I review through a series of tests to determine its performance in categories such as cooling, motion isolation, pressure relief, and others. Below, I’ll break down these tests and how the DreamCloud and WinkBed mattresses performed.
Temperature
Both of these hybrids do well in the cooling department. Neither bed felt cool to the touch, but according to our thermal gun test, both beds only increased in temperature by 7 degrees after five minutes of lying on them—pretty solid by our metrics. Though the two beds received similar scores for cooling, I personally think the DreamCloud mattress does a better job of sleeping cool than the WinkBed.
Motion Isolation
The DreamCloud scored a bit lower than the WinkBed for motion isolation, coming in at a 3.5 out of 5 versus the WinkBed’s 4 out of 5. However, both of these beds do a decent job of absorbing motion, which is particularly impressive when you consider both of them are hybrid beds with some bounce to them. Even given its lower score, the DreamCloud should stifle small movements like shifting around — you just might feel the bigger stuff, like your partner getting in and out of bed in the middle of the night.
Edge Support
Both beds also scored fairly high in edge support, with the WinkBed coming in at 4 out of 5 and DreamCloud at 4.5 out of 5. I found that both beds maintained their structure well when I sat on the edge of them, but the WinkBed was a little more difficult to lie down near the perimeter. I felt more slippage in that position.
Pressure Relief
Both beds scored a 4.5 out of 5 for pressure relief despite being on the firmer side, thanks to the cushier foams on top. For me, the WinkBed mattress is probably going to work best for those who need a little extra pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back due to its plush pillow top. It’s possible that neither of these beds are the best choice for most side sleepers, though, since they’re pretty firm.
Pain Relief
Both of these beds offer a balance of pressure relief and support that should be a good match for folks with back pain — both keep the hips, shoulders, and spine elevated while allowing for some sink in areas that need it most. They’re also both great options for hip pain, with the WinkBed featured on our best mattresses for hip pain article. Some lightweight sleepers might not be able to reap the benefits, though, as sleepers under 130 pounds won’t sink very far into a firmer mattress’s surface.
Durability
I’d consider both the DreamCloud and WinkBed to be long-haul investments. Both beds have sturdy innerspring units and high-quality foam, which are solid indicators of mattress longevity. I imagine neither will show much wear and tear by the three-year mark. Both should last the typical 10-year lifespan of a mattress or surpass it.

How do the DreamCloud and WinkBed mattresses ship?
Both the DreamCloud and WinkBed mattresses are considered to be “beds in a box.” This means they’ll be delivered compressed into an easy-to-move box for your convenience. You’ll have to wait a few days after unboxing for the mattress to fully expand. Shipping is free throughout the contiguous United States.
Is the DreamCloud firmer than the WinkBed?
Both beds were rated at a 7 out of 10 for firmness, skewing toward the firmer end of the scale. I tested the Luxury Firm model of the WinkBed to get this rating. The DreamCloud is only available in one firmness, while the WinkBed is also available in Softer, Firmer, and Plus options. So if you’re looking for something on the softer side, consider the WinkBed’s (aptly named) Softer model.
Are the WinkBed and DreamCloud mattresses good for hot sleepers?
I found both the WinkBed and DreamCloud to be relatively cool mattresses, thanks to their breathable construction materials. I’d recommend them if you’re a hot sleeper looking for a springy, supportive bed.

DreamCloud offers a generous year-long trial, which gives you a full 365 days to decide whether or not its bed is for you. After 30 days of trying it out, you have the option to return it for a full refund. On the other hand, WinkBed offers a 120-night trial, during which you can return your mattress if it doesn’t work out, also for free. You can also exchange it for a different mattress if the firmness wasn’t quite right, and have an additional 60 days to make a final decision. Note that some fees or exceptions apply for outside the contiguous United States.
