Nectar is a well-known name in the mattress space, and the Premier is its best-selling memory foam model. According to the brand, the upgraded Premier has twice the pressure relief and 60 percent more cooling power than the flagship model. But does the mattress really deliver on these claims? To find out, the Sleepopolis team put the mattress through our medically approved testing methodology in our Charlotte, NC-based studio.
We’ve evaluated more than 330 mattresses and helped over 60,100 people find a mattress that meets their needs and preferences. This depth of experience means our team is well equipped to make recommendations for the best mattresses for specific sleep needs. In addition to details like materials and construction, we dive deep into every aspect of a mattress’s performance to give you the best sense of what to expect. We’re also advised by chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM.
The Nectar Premier is a fan favorite, and we had high expectations going in. During testing, we found the 13-inch mattress to be a great match for side sleeping and we were impressed by its promised cooling ability. While all-foam mattresses don’t usually fare well in this regard, we would recommend the Premier for hot sleepers.
The Nectar Premier is a luxurious all-foam mattress equipped with quality materials. A moisture-wicking cover and gel-infused comfort layer create a cooling, thermoregulating mattress for hot sleepers. Perhaps its strongest attribute is its next-level pressure relief. Six inches of foam work to contour sensitive areas, but the high-density foam at the bottom of the bed provides plenty of support. Watch our video review to learn more.
What our tester says:
“My favorite thing about the Nectar Premier is its great pressure relief. This medium-soft mattress is a great fit for side sleepers looking for plush comfort. It might also be a nice fit for sleepers who deal with shoulder pain.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer
Nectar Premier Mattress Overview
The Nectar Premier is a step up from the original Classic, with upgraded pressure relief and the aforementioned temperature regulation. It’s slightly taller than average, standing 13 inches, with three foam layers and a soft synthetic cover that’s designed to be breathable and actively wick body heat. Spoiler: This works just as it’s supposed to and does a great job of nixing heat retention, which can be an issue with both memory foam layers and all-foam constructions.
We found the Nectar Premier had a medium-soft to medium-firm feel, depending on sleep position, so it’s best suited to side sleepers and lighter back sleepers. We wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers or heavyweight sleepers, since it lacks the support these sleepers need to maintain a straight spine.
Nectar has one of the best sleep trials in the business — a full 365 days to test any of its online mattresses from the comfort of your own bedroom. Since it can take a few weeks to fully adjust to a new mattress, this gives you plenty of time to really assess the Premier and decide if it’s meeting your needs. Plus, Nectar backs its mattresses with a lifetime warranty.
The Premier, like all Nectar mattresses, ships in a box, so it arrives compressed and rolled. It’s a little heavier than other bed-in-a-box mattresses, so you may want an extra set of hands to help you move it into place. It can take a full 72 hours before it fully expands, and it will soften during this process.
During testing, the Nectar Premier earned 4 stars apiece in our ability, edge support, and responsiveness tests. Surprisingly, the mattress earned its lowest score in the pressure relief category. Overall, we gave the Premier a score of 4.3 stars out of 5.

Nectar Premier Value
When we reference the value of a mattress, we’re discussing whether or not we think it’s fairly priced based on its construction, material quality, and overall performance. The Nectar Premier is an upgraded version of the brand’s base model, and its foams are CertiPUR-US certified. That means the materials are free of heavy metals and other chemical contaminants. We also like the extra inch offered in comparison to standard 12-inch mattresses and the cooling fibers woven into the breathable fabric cover. As a bonus, the cover has antimicrobial properties to keep the surface fresher and cleaner.
Nectar offers fairly regular promotions throughout the year, with the biggest falling around holiday weekends and major shopping events, like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But the brand strives to offer low prices all year long. A queen Nectar Premier is priced at $949, while a split king retails for $1,498. It’s a reasonable price given the foam density, certification, and upgraded features of this cooling mattress. And don’t forget the 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty, both of which add to the value.
Mattresses made entirely of foam don’t generally have the longevity of their hybrid counterparts, because they lack the coil core. Still, given the material quality, we anticipate the Premier will perform as expected for seven to 10 years or so.

What Is the Nectar Premier Made Of?
To see what exactly we’re dealing with, our team cuts into the side of every mattress we test. Here’s what we found under the cover.
Cover – The Nectar Premier has a quilted cooling cover made with polyethylene fibers. This is the material that gives the bed its cool-to-the-touch sensation and wicks away heat. Since all-foam beds are notorious for trapping heat, this top layer is an important feature.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer is composed of two inches of memory foam for pressure relief in the hips, shoulders, and back.
Transition Layer – This dynamic response layer is made with three inches of responsive foam. It’s designed to support spinal alignment.
Support Layer – The thickest layer is made with eight inches of foundational foam. It’s a high-density poly foam for support and structure.

Nectar Premier Mattress Firmness
Firmness is a variable metric, because individual body type and preferred sleeping position influence how soft or firm you perceive a mattress. Most brands use a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 indicating very soft and 10 indicating a very firm feel. While there is no universal scale and interpretations always vary, it can be a useful benchmark.
Nectar describes the Premier as a true medium-firm, or a 6.5 on the firmness scale, but Sleepopolis tester Dan Caffrey found the mattress firmness varied depending on his sleeping position. On his side, he agreed with Nectar’s firmness rating. “Of all the positions, this mattress was most comfortable while side sleeping,” he said. “I got the contouring I needed at my shoulders and hips and didn’t feel like I was sinking too far into the bed.” Dan found the mattress noticeably softer on his back, rating it a 5.5. “My shoulders and upper body were comfortable, but I felt like I got a bit too much sinkage at my lower back and didn’t feel properly supported,” he said. “I’m not sure if back sleepers will get the support they need.”
On his stomach, Dan rated the Premier a 6 on the firmness scale. While he says he was fairly comfortable, he noticed that his hips were dipping a little too far to recommend the mattress to strict stomach sleepers. They’ll likely benefit from a firmer bed to ensure the hips stay elevated and the spine is aligned.

Nectar Premier Mattress Performance
Beyond assessing a new mattress’s construction and firmness, the Sleepopolis team conducts a comprehensive series of tests that give us a solid understanding of what it would be like to sleep on a given bed night after night. We use these findings to make specific recommendations for sleepers with varying needs and preferences. Below, see how the Nectar Premier performed in areas like pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, edge support, and more.
Nectar Premier Pressure Relief Performance
Sleepopolis Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta describes memory foam as one of the best materials for contouring closely to relieve the tension that can build up at pressure points. Given the Nectar Premier’s all-foam construction and two-inch memory foam layer, we had high expectations here.
Our first test involved three Sleepopolis testers and a pressure-sensing mat that we spread out onto each mattress before lying on it. The mat records the amount of pressure, or force, exerted on the body in different positions and generates a color-coded thermal image to show where this pressure is better or worse. Colors ranging from blue to green indicate areas of low pressure, while yellow and red indicate higher pressure. This buildup is also expressed in numeric rating, with a lower average pressure rating indicating better body weight distribution and pressure-relieving ability.
Asha Birjah, our lightweight tester, recorded an average pressure rating of 10.86 on her side. She said her hips sank comfortably and she experienced no pain in her shoulder or neck, but she did find herself wishing for a touch more support. She gave the mattress 4 stars in this position. On her back, Asha recorded a rating of 9.74. “I have a really pronounced posterior tilt and the soft foams here feel really comfortable, helping fill in my lower back,” she reported. “It’s doing a good job balancing out my hips, back, and shoulder blades.” In this position, Asha gave the Nectar Premier a full 5 stars.
Our average-weight tester, Erin Chiles, recorded an average of 12.77 on the pressure map when she rested on her side. She noted pressure in her hip and didn’t think her shoulder had ample sinkage. She gave the Premier 3 stars in this position, but felt things improved slightly on her back. The average pressure rating was 10.42. “This mattress is a little soft for my liking but it does pretty good overall for pressure relief,” she said. “I feel a little pressure in my lower back from my butt sinking. My shoulders and neck feel good.” Erin gave the mattress 4 stars for pressure relief on her back.
Caine Wilkes, our heavyweight tester, had the least success with pressure relief on the Nectar Premier. His average pressure rating was 17.77 on his side, and he reported tension around his shoulder and potential back pain. He scored the Premier 3 stars. The pressure rating was slightly better at 15.29 on his back, but Caine was less comfortable. “I feel like my hips are sinking too far into the layers,” he said. “There’s an overall lack of support. I’m mostly feeling sinkage and a bit of pressure at the upper back.” That earned the Premier 2 stars.
Overall, the mattress earned an average of 3.33 stars for pressure relief in the side-sleeping position and 3.67 stars in the back-sleeping position. For a mattress that promises enhanced pressure relief, we were less than impressed with this performance.

Nectar Premier Motion Isolation
Anyone who shares their bed with a partner, whether it’s a person or a pet, should pay close attention to this category. A mattress that isolates motion well keeps movement on one side from rippling across the entire bed. That means a partner tossing and turning on their side won’t jostle the whole mattress. We used several tests to assess motion isolation in the Nectar Premier and gave it an average score of 3.67 stars out of 5. This is a little low given the all-foam construction, which tends to result in lower-than-average motion transfer compared to innerspring or hybrid beds, but it’s not terrible.
We began our assessment with a ripple test, which involved placing a basin of water on one side of the bed. On the other side, our tester climbed in and out and switched between positions. We observed how much this movement affected the water in the basin. When Dan performed this test, he found that the water moved only slightly, earning it 4 stars. Next, Dan switched from this back to his side. The movement caused mild rippling in the water, earning another 4-star score.
Despite this high performance, things went south when we replaced the basin of water with another tester. While Dan lay on one side, another tester climbed in and out of bed and moved around. “This mattress surprised me because I expected it to isolate motion well but it actually felt wobbly,” said Dan. He gave the mattress 3 stars. Given the amount of motion transfer with two people on the bed, we’re hesitant to recommend the Nectar Premier to light sleepers who are easily disturbed by movement.

Nectar Premier Responsiveness
Sleepers who fall asleep in one position only to wake up in another do best on a responsive mattress. It means the materials are quick to bounce back into their original shape when pressure is released, which is what happens when you shift from, say, your back to your side. A mattress with low responsiveness returns to shape slowly. For combination sleepers, that can make it difficult to comfortably change positions without disrupting your sleep.
Memory foam is naturally slow moving, so responsiveness isn’t usually great. Dan tested this category by moving between different positions, paying close attention to how easy it was to transition between each and whether the materials inhibited his movement. Dan said he struggled slightly when flipping from his back straight to his stomach, but movement between other positions was easy. He rated the mattress 4 stars for this test.
Erin performed the second test, which involved placing a 53-pound kettlebell on the center of the mattress for seven seconds before lifting it straight up. We used a stopwatch to see how long it took the mattress to fully return to its regular shape. The Premier took a full 12.29 seconds, which is quite slow.
Erin also used the kettlebell to perform another test for responsiveness. This time, she put it in the center of the mattress and used a ruler to measure how far it sank. It sank 4.41 inches, which is considered high sinkage. You can expect a good amount of contouring from this mattress, which is pretty typical with memory foam layers.
Finally, we dropped a 25-pound steel ball from a 6-foot height onto the bed and used a yardstick on the wall to measure the bounce height. The rebound was 16 inches, which is considered “moderate bounce.”
Overall, the Nectar Premier earned an average of 4 stars for its performance in our responsiveness tests.
Nectar Premier Cooling
For a hot sleeper, a mattress that actively cools can be the difference between a good night and a bad night. Despite its all-foam construction, the Nectar Premier did quite well in this category, earning an overall cooling score of 4 out of 5 stars.
We used a thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of the mattress before it had a chance to respond to body heat. The initial read was 71.8 degrees. After Dan rested on the Premier for five minutes, he used the thermal gun to measure it again. This time, it was 78.4, an increase of just 6.6 degrees. “This is the smallest increment of temperature increase we’ve had thus far,” said Dan. “After the test, it feels warm but then immediately cool to the touch after your hand sinks into it.” Based on this test, we think the Premier is a great cooling mattress—and one of the best mattresses for hot sleepers.
Nectar Premier Edge Support
Edge support refers to how stable a mattress is around the perimeter. Ideally, it has the same support as the center of the mattress, making it easy to get in and out of bed and keeping you from feeling like you might roll right off the side if you sleep close to the edge. All-foam mattresses don’t typically have great edge support, because they lack the reinforced coils found in many hybrids. But the Nectar Premier surprised us, earning 4 stars in this category.
Dan conducted the first edge support test by sitting on the side of the bed with his feet on the floor and then rising to a standing position. He assessed how stable he felt seated and whether it was necessary to use his hands for assistance as he stood up. Dan noted that while he didn’t have much difficulty sitting and standing, he had the sensation that the layers were quite collapsed. He gave the Premier 3 stars for this test.
Next, Dan checked edge support by lying on the bed in different sleep positions. He reported feeling a lot of sinkage, though he said he felt supported enough as he switched positions. He gave the mattress another 3 stars.
Our tester Erin conducted another test to assess edge support. She used three stacks of weighted plates to represent different weight classes: a 99-pound stack, 154-pound stack, and a 198-pound stack. She placed each stack on the edge of the Premier and used a ruler to measure the depth of collapse. From lightest to heaviest, the sinkage was 1 inch, 3 inches, and 3.5 inches. The combined average score for this test was 4.6 stars.
Nectar Premier Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples who share the bed tend to benefit from a mattress that offers good cooling ability, a quick response time, high motion isolation, and strong edge support. That’s because mattresses heat up quicker from a couple’s combined body heat, while sexual activities are easier on a more responsive surface. Good motion isolation is important for minimizing nighttime disruptions from one partner rolling over, and strong edge support means both partners have room to spread out.
The Premier performed well in most of these categories, earning 4 stars for cooling, responsiveness, and edge support. But it got 3.67 stars for motion isolation, which could be an issue if you share the bed with a light sleeper.
Other Performance Factors to Consider
There are other factors to consider when you shop for a new mattress. We performed a few additional tests on the Premier to give you the most comprehensive assessment possible.
Sex
To assess how a mattress might perform for sex, we average scores from our responsiveness, cooling, and edge support tests. Beds that perform well in these categories have the quick response time, cooling prowess, and strong perimeter support that allow you to focus on the activities at hand, instead of feeling trapped in the mattress, overheated, or worried about falling off the bed.
The Premier earned 4 stars across the board for these categories, which gives it the same score for sex. It should be a fine surface for sexual activity.
Noise
Since it lacks innerspring coils that could creak or squeak, you might assume all-foam mattresses like the Nectar Premier are completely silent. Actually, foams can make a distinct hissing sound that comes from air escaping from the foam. Our tester Erin jumped up and down, rolled around, and firmly pressed on the mattress in a bid to make those foams hiss, but the Premier was completely silent. It earned 5 stars out of 5 for this test.
Base Compatibility
Our Charlotte studio is equipped with an adjustable base so we can assess compatibility with all of the mattresses we test. Despite its all-foam construction, the Premier didn’t conform to the base well unless it had the weight of someone on it. When Erin moved the head and foot of the bed to different angles and placed the bed in the zero-gravity position, she noticed that the cover scrunched slightly as well. She gave the mattress 3 stars for this test.
Durability
To estimate the expected durability of a mattress, we consider material quality, the support layer, edge support, and the warranty. Memory foam mattresses are more likely to sag than hybrid mattresses, but we think the high-density support foam and high-quality layers in the Premier should work well to maintain its shape. Plus, the 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty are good signs that the brand has confidence in its mattresses.
It’s reasonable to expect the Premier to last at least 7 to 10 years, though it’s likely that it will begin showing visible signs of use toward the end of that timeframe.

Nectar Premier Sleeping Position and Body Weight
The best way to decide if the Nectar Premier is a good fit for you is to consider your preferred sleeping position and your body weight. That’s what affects how much weight is placed on different parts of the body, which in turn affects the type of support you need to be comfortable. Below, we cover how we expect the Premier to perform for different weight classes and sleeping positions.
Before we dive into our recommendations, though, we want to recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 230 pounds).
As a general takeaway, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average-weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average-weight sleepers and sink into the mattress more. As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers likely need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the Nectar Premier a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This is a great fit, with soft cushioning to fill the lumbar spine and enough support to maintain alignment.
- Light Side Sleepers – These sleepers should find just enough cushioning around the hips and shoulders.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – This group will probably fare well on the Premier, which should be able to evenly distribute their body weight to avoid back pain.
[INSERT GRAPHIC OF STOMACH SLEEPING ON THE MATTRESS]
Is the Nectar Premier a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 pounds)?
- Average-Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers may find their hips sink too far to be comfortable, so we’d recommend a firmer mattress with more support.
- Average-Weight Side Sleepers – These sleepers will likely find a good balance of support and contouring.
- Average-Weight Stomach Sleepers – These sleepers will probably experience too much sinkage at the hips as well and will fare better with firmer support.
Is the Nectar Premier a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 230 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Nectar Premier likely doesn’t have the support necessary to keep these sleepers properly aligned, so we’d recommend a mattress specifically engineered to support more weight.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – See above.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – See above.

My Final Thoughts About the Nectar Premier Mattress
So, who might love the Nectar Premier, and who should steer clear? Here are our final thoughts on its suitability for different sleep needs.
Who I Recommend the Nectar Premier For
- Hot sleepers will appreciate the cool-to-the-touch cover that does a great job of keeping heat retention at bay.
- Side sleepers in light and average-weight classes should find this medium mattress balances support and cushioning nicely.
- Shoppers on a budget can appreciate the affordable price point and may be able to get it on sale as well.
- Fans of a classic memory foam feel will find the Premier delivers on that slow-moving, sunken sensation.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Premier For
Heavyweight sleepers who need strong support to stay properly aligned probably won’t do well on the Premier.
Those looking for a mattress for their adjustable base probably won’t like that the Premier doesn’t conform well.

Nectar Premier vs. Other Models
It can be helpful to compare similar mattresses when you’re researching a new bed. Here’s how the Nectar Premier stacks up to models from other brands.
Nectar Premier vs Casper The One
Casper’s The One mattress is another all-foam option. It’s shorter at 11 inches and has a firmer feel for a more lifted sensation. During testing, The One outperformed the Nectar Premier in pressure relief, edge support, and motion isolation.
- Price: The One is the slightly more expensive option, with a queen priced at $999 before discounts. But regular sales bring that price down by several hundred dollars, making the price tags pretty comparable.
- Sleeping position: We think The One is a good choice for back and side sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress, as well as lightweight stomach sleepers. If you’re a side sleeper who likes more sinkage, the Premier is the better fit.
- Cooling: Both mattresses sleep quite cool, despite their all-foam constructions, but the Premier has the cool-to-the-touch cover.
- Body weight: Neither mattress is a good choice for heavyweight sleepers. They don’t have the support required to support more weight.
The Casper Original is an all-foam mattress that is a great option for back sleepers who want a balance of support and pressure relief. Combination sleepers will appreciate this mattress’s responsiveness, which makes it easy to change positions throughout the night. This mattress is also a good choice for couples due to its responsiveness and ability to isolate motion. Learn more in our video review.
What our tester says:
“It’s worth mentioning the Casper is zoned for support. So, it uses firmer foams at the lower back for extra lift, and softer foams at the shoulders for extra cushion around pressure points. This combo is nice for sleepers suffering from lower back or shoulder pain, since it helps keep the spine in a healthy alignment without creating stiffness in the shoulder area.” – Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor
Other Models From Nectar
The Premier is the enhanced version of the brand’s flagship model. Let’s compare them side by side.
Nectar Premier vs Nectar Classic Mattress
The Nectar Classic is the brand’s most affordable bed. Like the Premier, it’s made with layers of high-density foam. It has a medium-firm feel, so it’s a touch firmer than the Premier, and it shares the same generous trial window and warranty. During testing, we found the 12-inch Classic delivered excellent motion isolation, pressure relief, and cooling.
- Price: As the entry-level model, the Classic is the cheaper buy. A queen size is $649, compared to $949 for the Premier.
- Sleeping position: Light and average-weight back and stomach sleepers will like the Classic, but we think the Premier is the better choice for side sleepers in these weight classes. It’s a touch softer for more cushioning around the hips and shoulders.
- Cooling: The Classic actually outperformed the Premier, earning 4.5 stars. Still, we think both mattresses are good options for hot sleepers.
- Body weight: Heavyweight sleepers need more support to ensure a straight spine, so we wouldn’t recommend either mattress for these sleepers.

The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: it’s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. Plus, a lengthy trial period, lifetime warranty, and affordable price make the Nectar a reassuring choice for many. Watch our video review to learn more.
What our tester says:
“I think back sleepers are going to love the Nectar Classic. These sleepers will get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep. Similarly, lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers should find that they get enough support around their hips to sleep comfortably on this mattress. The Nectar Classic is firm enough to keep these sleepers’ spines in a healthy position.” – Kenny Timper, staff writer and certified sleep science coach
Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of certified sleep science coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time lying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
FAQs
What are the downsides of a Nectar mattress?
Nectar mattresses, especially the Nectar Premier, may not deliver on pressure relief or have the support necessary for side sleepers. If you like a bouncy mattress, it’s not a good fit either.
Which is better: Nectar Premier Memory Foam Mattress or Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress?
It depends on personal sleep needs and preferences. The Premier Hybrid has the benefit of innerspring coils, which add durability, more support, and more responsiveness. The memory foam mattress has the signature slow-moving, contouring feel that some people really like.
How long does a Nectar Premier mattress last?
Based on its materials and warranty, a Nectar Premier mattress should last at least seven years and possibly longer.
