Most mattresses are designed with what we call “average weight sleepers” in mind — people who weigh between 130 and 250 pounds. So if you are a heavier person, many of the mattresses available on the market may not be supportive enough for you. That’s why some mattress manufacturers have started offering beds specifically designed to support heavier body weights. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is Nolah’s foray into a bed for heavier folks.
To find out just how the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ performs and how it might feel to different sleepers, we put it through a series of tests at our Sleepopolis studio. In this review, I’ll cover the results of those tests to help you decide if the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is the right bed for you. Short on time? Skip ahead for a review summary.

Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Review Video
Is Nolah Evolution Comfort+ a Good Mattress for You?
Before we dive into all the details, let’s take a look at who I do and don’t recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ to.
Who I Recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ For
- The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a sturdy bed that should easily support the weight of heavy sleepers — though I think it can appeal to light and average weight folks, too.
- Back sleepers should find a lot to love on this medium-firm mattress, as it offers a nice blend of support and comfort.
- Couples will likely appreciate this bed’s cooling capabilities, responsiveness, sturdy edge support, and solid motion isolation.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ For
- Most stomach sleepers will likely find the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ too soft to keep their hips lifted up and out of the structure. A too-soft mattress can lead to lower back pain for stomach sleepers.
- Budget shoppers might find the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is priced a bit too high for their needs.
- Sleepers who love a very firm feel might not enjoy the plush feel the Euro pillow top offers on this bed.
How Firm is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress?
Now let’s talk about how firm the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is. Here at Sleepopolis, we rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm. To determine the firmness, we usually have multiple Sleepopolis team members lay on the bed and provide a firmness rating. We average those together to get a finalized score, since firmness is inherently subjective and can feel different depending on the sleeper.
We rated the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ as 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is a true medium-firm mattress. The hybrid construction — using foams and coils — keeps you lifted up and out of the structure of the mattress for an “on top of the bed” feeling, but the Euro top gives some light contouring and a plush top layer for comfort.

Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Performance
Let’s take a look now at how the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ performed in our tests.
Testing the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
Body type and sleeping position are two of the most important considerations to take into account when shopping for a new mattress. Based on which position you primarily sleep in, as well as how much you weigh, some mattresses will work better for you than others. Let’s go over how different types of sleepers may feel on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress.
Is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should feel quite comfortable on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. It may feel a touch firmer than medium-firm, as these folks won’t sink in as much, but they should still enjoy the pleasant mix of comfort and support to maintain spinal alignment.
- Light Side Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers may find the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ to be a little too firm, as they won’t sink into the material as much as average and heavy side sleepers to get pressure relief. I think they could do okay, but overall it may not be the best mattress for this group.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should be fairly comfortable on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, as they won’t sink into the bed, which should allow their hips to stay propped up to maintain a neutral spine.
Is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – Average weight back sleepers should be very comfortable on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. The medium-firm feel, with supportive coils and a plush Euro top, is ideal for these sleepers.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – Average weight side sleepers should also find a lot to love in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. I found the Euro top offered enough sinkage and cushioning to relieve pressure around my shoulder and hip in this position, which is key for side sleepers.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a little too soft for average weight stomach sleepers. I felt my hips sinking into the bed, which can lead to lower back pain. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ should be very comfortable for heavy back sleepers. It should be supportive enough to help these sleepers maintain a neutral spine alignment, while still feeling cozy, thanks to the Euro top.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – I think these folks will also feel quite comfortable on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. Many other mattresses designed for heavy folks aren’t nearly as plush as this one, so I think it should offer plenty of cushioning for heavy side sleepers’ joints.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a bit too soft for heavy stomach sleepers. They will likely feel their hips sinking into the mattress, which can cause lower back pain.
Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is another important performance factor in mattresses. As I hinted at above, pressure relief can be especially important for side sleepers’ hips and shoulders, but it doesn’t only apply to that group. We use a heat mapping pressure map to see where there is pressure buildup on the body while lying on a mattress. Blues and greens indicate low pressure, while reds and oranges indicate higher pressure.
Back Pain – I think the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ should work well for most sleepers with back pain, as it is very supportive. In the side and back sleeping positions, there is little to no pressure buildup shown on the pressure map. I also felt very well-supported while lying on the bed. However, average to heavy stomach sleepers will likely find their hips sinking into this bed, causing their lower back to bow. This can lead to back pain down the road.
Shoulder Pain – The results for shoulder pain relief also look great for both back and side sleeping positions, in our pressure map. I think the plush Euro top layer works nicely to relieve some pressure on the shoulder and provide a cushioned feel.
Hip Pain – Overall, the hip pain relief results look good for both back and side sleeping in our pressure maps. There is a little more pressure shown on the hips than on the shoulders, but not enough to cause concern. I felt my hips were well-cushioned on this mattress.
Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Performance for Couples
If you share the bed with a partner, there are some additional factors you may want to consider. Below, I’ll go over how the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ performs in motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to movement traveling from one side of the bed to the other — if your partner is tossing and turning, does it cause your side of the bed to jiggle and disturb your sleep? Or does it stay relatively motionless?
We test how well a bed isolates motion by dropping a 10-pound steel ball from three different heights: four inches to simulate tossing and turning, eight inches to simulate getting out of bed, and 12 inches to simulate jumping on the bed.
These motion isolation results are pretty good! We did see some motion transfer on the higher drops, but overall, these results are above average. I would say you can expect to feel those bigger movements, but shouldn’t be too disturbed by simple tossing and turning from a partner or pet.
Sex
We also like to look at how responsive mattresses are, meaning how easy it is to move around on them and how quickly the material responds to pressure. Responsiveness is an important factor for combination sleepers, but also for sex, as a responsive mattress is easy to move around on and change between positions.
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a really responsive mattress. I found it really easy to move around on, as the mattress keeps you lifted up, rather than sinking deeply into the material. It is also fairly bouncy, thanks to the springs. So I think it should make a good mattress for sex.
Cooling
Cooling is an important consideration for many sleepers, but especially for couples, as two bodies produce more heat than one. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a fairly cool mattress. Its hybrid construction helps promote airflow, as air can circulate more easily between coils than thick sections of foam. There are also some materials meant to promote cooling, like foams Nolah says don’t trap as much heat as traditional memory foams. Hot sleepers should be comfortable on this mattress.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to a bed’s ability to bear weight around the perimeter. If a mattress has bad edge support, you’ll find yourself sinking down while sitting or lying along the edge. But with good edge support, you should feel just as supported on the edge as in the middle. This is relevant for couples, as a sturdier edge allows you to use the entire surface area of the mattress.
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ has really great edge support. I felt well-supported on the edge of this bed, with very little sinkage at all.
What is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Made Of?
I’ve referenced some materials used in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ already in this review, but let’s take a closer look at exactly what this mattress is made of.
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a hybrid mattress and stands at 14 inches tall. The mattress is designed to support up to 1,000 pounds.
Cover – The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ has an organic cotton cover with ArcticTex fibers blended into the material. Nolah says these fibers help to dissipate body heat. The sides of the cover feature handles and a mesh gusset, which is intended to allow for additional airflow.
Euro Top – Right under the cover lies the Euro pillow top, which is made with two inches of foam and quilted for extra plushness.
Comfort Layer 1 – The comfort layer is a 2-inch section of Nolah’s AirFoam HD, which the brand says is denser than other foams and maintains a cooler temperature.
Comfort Layer 2 – A second layer of foam provides additional comfort in this bed. This layer is an inch of foam, which Nolah says is high resilience and sag-resistant.
Transition Layer – Next the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ has a 1-inch layer of transition foam, which Nolah says is a slightly bouncier foam than the ones above. This transition layer eases the sleeper between the plusher foams above and the firmer coils below.
Support Layer – The main support section of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is an 8-inch section of individually pocketed coils. These coils are grouped into three support zones, which provides firmer support around the hips than around the shoulders and legs. Additionally, there are extra coils around the perimeter for reinforced edge support.
Foundation Layer – Beneath the coils lies a thin foundation layer, made from recycled plant fiber. This helps provide stability and give the mattress its overall structure.
Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ ships compressed in a box. To unbox it, you’ll have to remove the rolled up mattress from the box, cut off the packaging, and unfold the bed. It should expand fairly quickly, but I’d still recommend giving it a day or so to reach its full size before you start sleeping on it.
We found unboxing this mattress overall simple. It is on the heavier side, and I always recommend grabbing a friend to unbox a mattress anyway, but you’ll definitely want some assistance with this one. We also didn’t notice any strong off-gassing, which is the smell that comes from the release of gasses trapped during the compression process.

My Final Thoughts About the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress
Before we wrap up this review, here are my final takeaways on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress.
My Favorite Things About the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress
As a mattress designed for heavy people, who weigh 250 pounds or more, I think the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ really succeeds. It is highly supportive, responsive, and yet also offers plush comfort. I particularly appreciate how it could work to relieve pressure points for heavy side sleepers — many mattresses for heavy folks are on the firmer side and don’t provide tons of cushioning.
Still, this bed can work well for light and average weight sleepers, too. This could make it a great choice for mixed-weight couples — especially since it tested well for motion isolation, is cooling, and has sturdy edge support, too.
My Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Complaints
While I think this mattress has many great qualities, it may not work for everyone. It is a fairly expensive mattress — although, I will say mattresses designed for heavy people do tend to cost more than the average bed, since they are built with greater durability in mind. With this pricing in mind, I was a little disappointed that some of the materials, like fabrics and foams, felt a little cheaper to me. A small gripe, but worth noting.
Additionally, it likely isn’t a good fit for most stomach sleepers — especially heavy stomach sleepers. I suspect they’ll find their hips sinking into the foam layers, which can lead to lower back pain. A firmer mattress will likely work better. You can look into our recommendations for the best mattress for stomach sleepers to find the best fit for you.

Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Vs
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ isn’t the only mattress specifically designed for heavy folks, so let’s compare it to some of its competitors.
Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress vs Saatva HD Mattress
- The Saatva HD is another hybrid mattress specifically designed for heavy sleepers. Like the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, it has an organic cotton cover, a Euro top, and memory foams, but the Saatva HD also incorporates Talalay latex and zoned innerspring coils, rather than individually pocketed coils.
- We rated the Saatva HD as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, so it feels firmer than the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. That makes it a better choice for heavy stomach sleepers.
- However, the Saatva HD had poorer motion isolation than the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. We saw a decent amount of motion transfer, so it may not work for couples easily disturbed by motion.

Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress vs Big Fig Mattress
- Big Fig is another hybrid mattress designed with heavy sleepers in mind. It can support up to 1,100 pounds.
- The Big Fig incorporates materials like gel-infused latex foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils in its construction. All together, these give the Big Fig a very firm feel — we rated it as an 8 out 10 on the firmness scale.
- Because of its firm feel, the Big Fig is not as good for heavy side sleepers as the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, but it works better for stomach sleepers.

Other Models from Nolah
Just like the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ isn’t the only mattress for heavy people, it also isn’t the only mattress from Nolah! Let’s take a look at some of the brand’s other offerings.
Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress vs Nolah Signature Mattress
- The Nolah Signature mattress is the brand’s flagship product. It is an all-foam mattress, so it differs from the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ there. But, it does utilize the same proprietary AirFoam, which is used in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+.
- The Nolah Signature has a much softer feel — we rated it as a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- It is an excellent mattress for side sleepers, excepting those who weigh 250 pounds or more. Light to average folks should love the soft pressure relief it offers, but the Nolah Signature isn’t supportive enough for heavier folks.

An amazing mattress! Constructed with luxuriously well made materials that are breathable and incredibly comfortable. After almost one year of sleeping on this mattress, my husband and I are still talking about how much we love it. We both are combo sleepers and feel it's the perfect balance between soft and firm. Plus, no more waking up with a sore back or tight neck. Would highly recommend!!

Hannah Merrifield, Nolah customerNolah Evolution Hybrid Mattress
The Nolah Evolution provides good pressure relief and body contouring. It’s a great choice for side sleepers, and back sleepers who like a softer mattress will enjoy it too. The soft pillow top is a great touch for shoulder or hip pain as well.
