what are dreams?
  • REMspace, a sleep technology company, allegedly enabled two people to successfully communicate during lucid dreaming with the use of special technology. (1)
  • While this research sounds like something out of a science fiction novel, it still needs to be further corroborated by peer-reviewed studies.
  • Lucid dreaming is a dream where the person who is dreaming is aware of their dreams and can even control the narrative of their dreams.
  • There are several different things you can tweak to try to lucid dream, but one really important thing to remember is to be patient while practicing lucid dreaming.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been intrigued by lucid dreaming. To be able to control your dreams while you sleep seems like a ton of fun. And, not only does lucid dreaming draw the attention of the average person, but the nighttime practice has also caught the eye of researchers in Silicon Valley.

If you’re not familiar, lucid dreams are dreams where the person who is asleep and dreaming is aware that they are dreaming. If you’re lucid dreaming, you’ll usually have a full memory of the dream, and have some control over the narrative of the dream. Some people can experience lucid dreaming spontaneously, while others dedicate a lot of time and energy to practicing lucid dreaming.

Recently, according to Sleep Review Magazine, researchers at company REMspace, a sleep technology start-up allegedly achieved “communication between two individuals during lucid dreams.” (1

If your curious about the alleged outcome of REMspace’s research, read on. Plus, we’ve got some tips on how you could get started with your own lucid dreaming.

What Did REMspace Claim To Discover While Researching Lucid Dream Communication?

According to Sleep Review Magazine, researchers “enabled two individuals to exchange a message while in lucid dreams, marking what they say is the first instance of communication within dreams.” The researchers used special technology and a dream language called “Remmyo,” which allegedly allowed participants to communicate, and confirm said communication during lucid dreaming. (1)

According to Sleep Review Magazine, the study occurred on September 24, and involved two participants entering a lucid dream state while in their own homes. Their brain waves were supposably monitored remotely by a “specially developed apparatus.” Allegedly when the first participant entered a lucid dream state, the server sent them a random word using the special “Remmyo” language. The participant then repeated the word, and the server stored the word that the participant repeated to show to the next participant to enter a lucid dream state. (1)

When the next participant entered a lucid dreaming state, they received the message the other participant had repeated. Upon waking, the second participant supposably confirmed the word that the first participant repeated in their lucid dream. (1)

If you’re wondering if you can just go ahead and start chatting with your friends in your lucid dreams, you’ll want to temper your expectations. This research is still quite new, and will need more time to be corroborated by other researchers with peer reviewed studies before these claims of dream communication should be treated as hard fact.

How Can I Lucid Dream?

According to Sleepopolis, you can set yourself up to lucid dream by doing a couple of key things. You can focus on getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night, become more familiar with the dreams that you’re already having, learn to question if you’re in a dream, regularly test if you are dreaming, and to be patient and consistent with your lucid dreaming practice.

Final Word From Sleepopolis

While the claims of lucid dream communication from REMspace have not been corroborated by other researchers and needs to be corroborated by peer reviewed studies, and should not be accepted as scientific fact. However, lucid dreaming itself is definitely a real practice. You can lucid dream yourself by getting enough sleep each night, interrogating your reality while you are awake so it’s easier to do so in your dream, and to be patient with the lucid dreaming process.
