Is the Buffy Cloud a Good Pillow for You?

Before we get into the details of this Buffy pillow, let’s go over some quick recommendations.

P1062388

Who should try the Buffy Cloud pillow

  • Eco-conscious and vegan shoppers should be happy with the Buffy Cloud pillow. Buffy employs some eco-friendly materials, including recycled down-alternative fill. Being a down-alternative pillow, this is also a good guaranteed animal cruelty-free option for shoppers who don’t want to buy real down.
  • Sleepers who love a soft, fluffy, and marshmallowy pillow should enjoy the feel of the Buffy Cloud pillow.
  • Stomach sleepers should love the Soft version of the Buffy Cloud pillow that I tested, although it comes in three firmness options, making it a versatile option for many sleeping styles.

Who should not try the Buffy Cloud pillow

  • Shoppers looking for an easy-to-clean pillow might not prefer the Buffy Cloud. According to the care instructions, it should only be spot or dry cleaned — not machine washed.
  • If you prefer a sturdier pillow, this fluffy down-alternative pillow might not work for you. Consider a memory foam pillow instead.
  • If you’re looking for a real down pillow, then the Buffy might not be the best choice for you. See our best down pillows for some great options.

What Does the Buffy Cloud Pillow Feel Like?

As we go over how the Buffy Cloud pillow feels, keep in mind that feel is subjective, so you might have a different experience than I did.

Buffy Cloud Pillow Firmness

Here at Sleepopolis, we rate a pillow’s firmness as either soft, medium, or firm. Each firmness level is best suited for a different sleeping position. If you primarily sleep on your stomach, you’ll sleep best with a soft pillow. If you sleep primarily on your side, you’ll sleep best with a firm pillow. And for back sleepers, we recommend something in the middle.

P1062396

After testing out the Buffy Cloud pillow, I felt it was overall very soft. The pillow has a plush, moldable, and “cloudlike” feel — living up to its name! It wasn’t the most supportive pillow, as my head basically sank right through the pillow. However, that could make it a really good option for stomach sleepers.

Again, I tested the Soft version of the Buffy Cloud pillow. It’s available in three different firmness levels: Soft, Medium, and Firm. The Medium might be a good option for back sleepers and the Firm might be a good choice for side sleepers.

Buffy Cloud Pillow Loft

We also categorize pillows by loft, or height, as either low, medium, or high. Like with firmness, different lofts are best for different sleeping positions. A low loft is best for stomach sleepers, a medium loft is best for back sleepers, and a high loft is best for side sleepers to maintain spinal alignment.

The Buffy Cloud has a medium to low loft, but because it is so soft and compressive, it ends up having a quite low loft once you lay your head on it.

Now let’s go over how the Buffy Cloud feels while lying in different sleeping positions

Side — I did not find the Buffy Cloud in the Soft version comfortable for side sleeping. It’s so soft and compressive that it did not offer nearly enough support to keep my neck in line with the rest of my spine. You can mold and bunch this pillow up to make it feel a little firmer, but personally I would rather have a firmer, more supportive pillow for side sleeping. However, the Firm version of this pillow might work for side sleepers.

P1062407

Back — I think the Buffy Cloud in the Soft version works okay for back sleeping. It wouldn’t be my top choice, as I think it is a bit too soft, but it could work for occasional back sleeping. I prefer a little more support — just enough to keep my head and neck in line with my spine. However, the Medium version of this pillow might be a better option.

P1062404

Stomach — The Buffy Cloud pillow in the Soft version is a great option for stomach sleepers. Because it is so soft and compressive, it allows stomach sleepers to rest without their necks craning upwards. This is key, because stomach sleepers’ necks are very close to the surface of the mattress in this position, so it’s best to have a pillow that maintains that straight spinal positioning.

P1062417

Under the Arm — I think the Buffy Cloud could work for sleeping with it under your arm. Its soft, down-like feel makes it very huggable, although it doesn’t offer much support, which you might want while side sleeping.

Between the Legs — The Buffy Cloud is a great option for putting between your legs at night. Its low loft and compressive nature, along with the soft feel, should allow for pressure relief for your legs, without causing your hips to be pushed out of alignment.

What Is the Buffy Cloud Pillow Made Of?

There are a variety of different textiles and materials used to make pillows, so let’s take a look at what is used in the Buffy Cloud pillow.

Cover: The Buffy Cloud pillow’s cover is made from 300-thread count sateen weave Tencel lyocell, a fabric derived from eucalyptus wood cellulose. The eucalyptus fiber in this material is known for being cooling and eco-friendly, compared to traditional rayons.

P1062391

Fill: The down-alternative fill used in the Buffy Cloud is BPA-free recycled PET fill from plastic bottles diverted from landfills and oceans. Each Buffy Cloud pillow contains roughly 24 to 30 recycled plastic bottles.

Additionally, the Buffy Cloud is available in two sizes: standard and king sizes.

Is the Buffy Cloud Pillow Good for Hot Sleepers?

Yes, I think the Buffy Cloud pillow is a fairly good pillow for hot sleepers. I wouldn’t say it was noticeably cool to the touch, but I appreciated how the Tencel cover maintained a fairly cool temperature. Tencel is also moisture-wicking, if you tend to sweat at night. The fill should also allow for some breathability, but plastic isn’t usually as breathable as natural fibers are. If you want an Earth-friendly pillow that maintains a neutral temperature, the Buffy Cloud is a good option.

My Final Thoughts About the Buffy Cloud Pillow

The Buffy Cloud pillow definitely lives up to its name. This cloudlike pillow offers a soft, comfy, squishy, and marshmallowy feel. I appreciate that it is available in three different firmness levels, which allows the pillow to work for a variety of sleepers. I tested the Soft version, which I found to be a particularly good option for stomach sleepers. However, the other two firmness options might work for other sleeping positions.

I also really appreciate Buffy’s efforts at sustainability, such as using recycled materials to create the down-alternative fill. However, I am a little disappointed that the pillow is spot clean or dry clean only — I always appreciate when a pillow is fully machine washable.

Buffy Cloud Pillow Vs

Still not sure if the Buffy Cloud is the best option for you? Let’s compare it with another bed pillow, the Coop Home Goods Eden pillow.

Buffy Cloud Pillow vs Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow

  • Made with hypoallergenic materials, the Coop Home Goods Eden pillow is filled with shredded gel-infused memory foam and microfiber fill. Its cover is made from a blend of bamboo viscose and polyester. Bamboo viscose is a similar material to Tencel, so it also offers some cooling effects.
  • The fill in the Eden pillow can be removed to adjust the loft of the pillow, or you can add more to raise the loft.
  • The Eden has a more medium firmness than the Buffy Soft model, so it could be a better option for sleepers looking for support, especially side sleepers looking to prevent neck pain.
