Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Review

Tuft & Needle is one of my favorite mattress and sleep accessory brands to find a quality item at an affordable price. That’s why I’m excited to be tackling their linen sheets in this review, as linen is a more luxury fabric that can certainly get expensive.

The Tuft & Needle Linen sheet set is one of the more budget-friendly linen options I’ve come across and in this review, I’ll go over what they’re made of, how they feel, and some key features, as well as my recommendations for who should try them.

What are the Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Made Of?

Let’s kick this review off with a closer look at the materials the Tuft & Needle Linen sheets are made with. Sheets can be made from a wide variety of materials, such as cotton, bamboo, or microfiber. Each material has a different feel, different qualities, and its own pros and cons.

P1052340

The Tuft & Needle Linen sheets are made from 100 percent European flax. Flax plant fibers are used to create linen yarn and fabric — you may have also seen its seeds and seed oil used for food. These sheets are also garment-washed and finished to soften the coarseness of the linen and give them a more lived-in feel.

To learn more about linen sheets, check out our buying guide on our best linen sheets roundup.

The fitted sheet in this set has an extra-strong elastic to ensure that it stays secured around your mattress. The fitted sheet also has 16-inch pockets, which can accommodate a mattress up to 14 inches tall.

The Tuft & Needle Linen sheets are available in six different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. Each set comes with one fitted sheet and one flat sheet. Twin and twin XL sizes come with one standard pillowcase, full and queen come with two standard pillowcases, and king and California king come with two king pillowcases. I tested the queen size set for this review.

What Do the Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Feel Like?

When I tested the Tuft & Needle Linen sheets, I thought they had a fairly typical linen bedding feel. They have a textured feel, thanks to the loose weave and low thread count that is distinctive of linen.

I did find these sheets to have a slightly coarse feel right out of the box, even though they are garment-washed. However, one of the great things about linen is that it will get softer the more you use and wash it. Tuft & Needle actually recommends washing before use — and they are machine washable — so I’d advise the same to jumpstart the softening process.

I also thought these sheets had a heavier and thicker feel than some other linen sheets I’ve tested, so they could work well for year-round use.

Are the Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Good for Hot Sleepers?

I thought the Tuft & Needle Linen sheets were a great option for hot sleepers to stay cool. Lying under the top sheet, I felt quite cool and comfortable.

Linen is a super breathable material. Part of that breathability comes from the loose weave of linen fabrics, but also flax fibers themselves are hollow, which allows air to circulate more easily. Pretty cool!

How Durable are Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets?

One of the great features of linen is its durability, so right off the bat that’s a great indicator that these sheets are durable. The flax fiber used to make linen is strong and ages well, only getting softer over time. However, be sure to follow the proper care instructions laid out by Tuft & Needle to keep your sheets in good condition.

Do the Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Stay on the Bed?

In my experience testing these sheets, I had no issue with them staying on the bed. They feature a strong elastic band and fairly deep pockets to keep the fitted sheet secured, which I found to be effective. The pockets can accommodate a mattress up to 14 inches tall, so if you have a very tall mattress or have added a thick mattress topper, you may want to measure your bed before purchasing these bed sheets.

Are Tuft & Needle Linen Sheets Good for You?

Now that we’ve covered the materials, feel, and features of the Tuft & Needle Linen sheets, let’s go over my recommendations for who should try them, as well as some complaints.

the tuft and needle sheets

Who should try Tuft & Needle Linen sheets

  • If you are a hot sleeper, I think you’ll find some cooling relief with these linen sheets. They are quite breathable, so you’ll get plenty of airflow.
  • If you want high-quality linen sheets on a budget, these are a decently good option. I won’t say these are an ultra-budget buy, but linen is more expensive than cotton sheets generally, and these don’t break the $300 price point — even for a king size. Many other linen sheets are well above this price.
  • If you want sheets that stay secured to your mattress, these are a solid option as well. The extra-strong elastic and deep pockets work well for most mattresses to keep the sheets in place.

Tuft & Needle Linen sheets complaints

  • As is true of most linen sheets, these are quite wrinkly. If super crisp, smooth bedding is important to you, these might not be the best choice. I’d recommend a sateen or percale cotton sheet, or even a jersey sheet, which are very wrinkle-resistant.
  • If you have a very tall mattress or a thick mattress topper, the fitted sheet in this set may not be deep enough to completely envelop your mattress.
  • These sheets are available in just a few color options, so if you’re looking for a particular shade, it might not be available.
