Split King Nectar Premier Adjustable Base Review (2025): Tested by a Certified Sleep Science Coach

Adjustable bases are bed frames that can be elevated at the head and legs, placing the user in a variety of positions and angles. Whether you want to comfortably lounge in the TV mode, adjust your spinal position to relieve back pain, or decrease snoring by slightly lifting the head, an adjustable base can be a good way to quickly get comfortable.

These bases come in a variety of styles, from simple to completely tricked out. Today, I’ll be reviewing one of the more luxurious adjustable bases on the market, the Nectar Premier Adjustable base. With a massage feature, four USB ports, and five preset modes, there’s plenty to discover about this bed.

I’m a certified sleep science coach who’s been testing mattresses and accessories for three years, so I’ve worked with a variety of bed frames. In our Sleepopolis studio, I tried out every feature this adjustable base offers and noted the assembly process, materials, and durability. Throughout this review, I’ll break down my findings, as well as outline all the deets regarding pricing and Nectar’s company policies.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base

An upgrade of Nectar’s Comfort Classic Adjustable Base, the Premier features several luxury touches, including a massage feature, four USB ports, and five preset modes. And the split king size allows for two different angles at the same time.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base Overview

The Nectar Premier adjustable base is an upgraded version of the Nectar Classic adjustable base. With an upcharge of $200, the Premier base offers additional luxury features, including a massage mode, five preset positions, and four USB ports.  When I tried this base in our studio, I was really impressed with these additional features. I was expecting a typical adjustable base that elevates the head and legs, but these frills helped enhance my overall experience.

When testing adjustable bases in the past, I’ve noticed that many are super-loud and disruptive when moving from one position to the next. When trying the Nectar Premier base, the noise wasn’t as obvious. There was a very slight whirring sound as I elevated my head and feet, but I didn’t find it distracting. If you’re sleeping with a partner, you should be able to operate the bed without the noise waking them up. In general, the base is super-sturdy, so you also won’t need to worry about a rickety construction and wobbly sleep experience.

Speaking of sleeping with a partner, I think the split king size is a good choice for couples. With this size, you can independently operate both sizes of the bed, allowing each partner to do their own thing on their own time. For example, you can stay in an upright position and read while your partner stays flat. If they start to snore, you can put their side in anti-snore mode. I appreciated the inclusion of two separate remotes — just be sure to keep track of which remote controls which side.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time on the Nectar Premier adjustable base. Not only did it provide what I expected, but it went above and beyond, so I rated my experience 5 stars. Since this model is only $200 more than the Classic adjustable base, I think it’s well worth the upgrade. When we tally up all the testing scores, this base earns an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base Value

When we assess the Nectar base’s overall value considering its price, performance, and company policies, I think it’s a great choice. While this base may be a bit more expensive than a standard bed frame, it’s a highly durable choice that is really tricked out. If you’re looking to get a good bang for your buck, you’ll likely find it from this base. For reference, this bed is just $200 more expensive than the Nectar Classic adjustable base, yet comes with special features.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base Performance

When evaluating the Nectar Premier Adjustable base, I dug into all the nitty-gritty details. From materials and setup all the way to enhanced features, I’m here to break down everything you need to know before buying this bed frame.

Materials

A bed frame’s construction can indicate its durability, as cheap and flimsy materials can lead to wobbling or breakage. Luckily, I was impressed with the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base’s build, and awarded it 5 stars for materials. Additionally, I measured the dimensions of the split king base and checked the website’s specs to check if they were accurate. Since my measurements matched the website, I rated the size 5 stars.

You don’t have to be a sleep expert to know the importance of a sturdy bed frame. Made from 100-percent steel, this base is solid. Regardless of how much I moved around on my mattress, the base remained sturdy and supportive, planted firmly on the ground. According to Nectar, this base is able to support up to 850 pounds, so it’s a great choice for heavy sleepers or even heavy couples.

Additionally, the entire construction seems well-manufactured. There’s a bit of soft upholstering around the perimeter of the base, and I didn’t notice it showing any wear. In general, there were no misplaced staples, visible glue, or wires hanging out, so I feel like the brand took its time making sure this product was of high quality. I also didn’t detect any sort of squeaking or creaking coming from the Nectar base, so you shouldn’t be disturbed by noise throughout the night.

Assembly and Delivery

When ordering the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base, you have two options. The first is the “bed-in-a-box” method, which is what we opted for. The base ships for free and arrives at your doorstep ready to be set up. Since we ordered a split king, we had two boxes arrive, because a split king is just two twin XL mattresses pushed together.

Unboxing the base was fairly easy: All you have to do is unfold, attach the legs, and plug it in. Attaching the legs is super intuitive; you simply line the leg up with one of the holes and twist it until it’s screwed in tight. The legs can also be adjusted to the height you prefer — 8 inches, 10 inches, 11 inches, or 12 inches. This entire process took me about 10 minutes to complete, but keep in mind I was doing this for two bases. If you just have one base to set up, it shouldn’t take as long.

Operating the base was also very intuitive. You can control it via a mobile app or the included wireless remote, which has clearly marked buttons. My only complaint was the base’s weight. It was quite heavy and bulky, so it was hard to move it around. If you’re able to grab an extra set of hands to help you, it’ll likely make the process a lot quicker.

If you have mobility issues or are worried about setting up the base alone, you can choose the second delivery option: white glove delivery. While this service costs an additional $199, it may be worth it for some shoppers. A team will come to your home and set up the base for you in the room of your choice, so you won’t have to lift a finger.

Extra Features

As I mentioned earlier, this base comes with plenty of bells and whistles. While some adjustable bases, like the Nectar Classic, just elevate the foot and head, the Nectar Premier base has additional uses.

One of the biggest standout features is the massage setting. When I think of a massage, I think of kneading out some deep tissue knots. However, this isn’t what the base provides. I would call it more of a low, rumbling vibration. You can choose the duration of the massage and pick between three intensity levels, but I didn’t really feel much until the highest level. Yet, it didn’t make a ton of noise and wasn’t distracting, which I appreciated. I enjoyed this feature overall and found it relaxing when I was sitting up in bed working on my laptop, but I wouldn’t expect a full-body recovery from the massage feature.

Additionally, I like that this bed includes four USB ports. Since you already have to plug this base into an outlet, it makes sense that the bed can be used as a power source. It’s a pain when your outlet is in an awkward location, so this makes it easy to charge your devices.

Unlike the Classic, this bed can be controlled via a mobile app, as well as a wireless remote. If you choose the split king like we did, you’ll have two remotes to operate each side independently. The remote allows you to control your head and foot elevation and has programmable memory so you can easily slip back into the perfect position for you. You can also choose one of five preset modes: zero-gravity, anti-snore, TV, reading, or flat. I really enjoyed the zero-gravity setting, which made my body feel completely weightless.

Finally, the Premier base has a zero-clearance design. This means there are no mechanicals sticking out from the bed frame, so you can either add the legs and use it on its own or just place the base directly on a platform frame. I will note, if you decide to use the base on its own, make sure your outlet isn’t directly behind the base. The zero-clearance design means it stays flush to the wall, and the bed may get caught on the cord when elevating the head.

My Final Thoughts on the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base

As we wrap up my Nectar Premier adjustable base review, I’d like to leave you with my final verdict for who I recommend this base to and who may want to avoid it.

Who I Recommend the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base For

  • I think this is one of the best adjustable beds for people who snore or have obstructive sleep apnea can benefit from the adjustable head elevation, particularly the anti-snore preset, which helps open up the airways.
  • The split king size is a great choice for couples, especially those on different nighttime schedules, due to the independent operation of each side of the bed.
  • Back sleeping is typically the ideal sleeping position for adjustable bases, but side sleepers can also benefit from some light head or leg elevation.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base For

  • People seeking a simple, no-frills bed frame will likely find the Nectar Premier excessive. If you’re not interested in a massage feature or simply don’t want an adjustable base at all, there are plenty of other options.
  • We don’t recommend this sleep product for most stomach sleepers, as too much head or leg elevation can cause unnatural bending of the spine.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base Pricing and Sizing

On Nectar’s website, you may notice that each size has two prices; one listed in red and one listed in blue. The red price represents the base’s “total value,” which is how much the company thinks the product is worth. The price listed in blue is what the base currently costs, and what you’ll actually be paying.

The “total value” for a split king base is $2,622. However, Nectar offers this size for $1,398, which is around a 47-percent discount. I rated this bed 4 stars for its price because while it’s still a bit pricey — around the cost of a standard queen mattress — its luxury features and adjustability justify the cost. Below, I’ve outlined the other sizes available and how much they cost. You can also add a headboard at checkout for an additional upcharge.

FAQs

What is the best mattress to use with the Nectar Premier adjustable base?

According to Nectar, this base is compatible with memory foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses. All Nectar mattresses should be compatible. I tested this base using the Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress, and thought it worked perfectly. They do not recommend a traditional innerspring mattress, as the rigid coil layer causes the bed to struggle to bend and conform to the base.

Can I return the Nectar Premier adjustable base?

Yes, you can return the Nectar Premier adjustable base for free, as long as you’re within the 60-night sleep trial period.

How tall is the Nectar Premier adjustable bed frame?

The base’s height is adjustable. The bed comes with 8-inch legs, 3-inch legs, and 2-inch legs. You can use the adjustable legs as extenders and combine them together to create a total height of 8 inches, 10 inches, 11 inches, or 12 inches. When we factor in the height of the platform and the security bar at the end of the bed, the entire base stands at 16.2 inches tall at its full height.

What’s the difference between the Nectar Premier adjustable base and the Nectar Classic adjustable base?

The Premier is an upgraded version of the classic. The Premier is $200 more expensive, yet has a massage feature, four USB outlets, and two additional preset modes (TV and reading).
