  1. Are you going to announce the winners? I’ve been looking and haven’t found anything. Am I just missing it? Still hoping against all odds. :D

    • Sorry for the delays, Kim! It took me a few days longer than I thought to get in touch with all of the winners. All winners are not published in the Gleam widget. Congrats to Megan T, Brian B, and Marlene M!

  2. Hi Sleepopolis,

Thanks for the comments back, it’s helping me narrow it down. I emailed nestbedding in search of my quandary. When I told them about my needs they recommended the signature select stating it would be a tad firmer than the hybrid.

What would you say the main differences I would feel when compared to the alexander *hybrid* vs the *all-foam*?

    • Hi Chase,

Thanks for your comment and my apologies for the slow reply. My wife and I were out of town for the weekend and my emails / comments got way way backed up. Sorry!

The primary difference is the design. The coil + foam vs. all foam makes a big difference in how the mattress performs. The hybrid has more bounce, faster response, better edge support, and better cooling. The all foam has better pressure relief and better deep compression support, but these only really apply if you’re 250 pounds or heavier, otherwise they are effectively the same.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the Alexander Hybrid. It’s just a really strong performer all around. Unless you really want an all foam I feel like it’s going to be the better choice for most sleepers when comparing to the Alexander all foam.

  3. Hey Sleepopolis,

Loving the website, lots of great information, and you are making my life so confused haha. With all this information it makes it hard for me to decide between some of the top contenders. Maybe you can help me?

Background: My current mattress is a hand me down from my parents (6-7 years old atleast) it is/was not a high quality mattress, but as a college student its hard to afford a mattress so I took it. My parents also recently bought the Tempur-pedic Rhapsody Breeze(4500$), I was house sitting one time and got to sleep in it, and this was the moment I realized I needed a new mattress. It had a very nice cooling effects while sleeping, and it felt like it aligned my body properly with enough of a ‘countered’ snug fit, without feeling like I had been enveloped or sunk in without being able to move.

Recently I’ve come into some money and a mattress is my #1 priority. Throughout all of my investigations (mainly from your website) I’ve narrowed it down between a few.

    I really like the concept of the Hybrids, and the Alexander Signature Hybrid has been in my sights for a good month now. Some of my questions are;
    – How soft compared to a tempur-pedic is the initial feeling on top?
    – After a while does it give a ‘snug fit’?
Another Hybrid I was looking at was the Viola Medium/Plush Hybrid, it has a ton of complexity packed into it, and really intrigues me. I had noticed you commented to another ‘sleep-deprived individual’ who was asking for something similar to a tempur-pedic flex that the Voila is your recommendation.

    Some current problems;
-I weight train all the time, and am constantly sore and suffering from muscle fatigue( the copper infused memory foam from the alexander hybrid is definitely a big contender in my eyes)
-I sleep pretty hot (night sweats from covers, tossing and turning usually from getting too hot, kicking off sheets)
-Current bed sinks in at one spot, and definitely does not help my spine alignment

Thanks a whole bunch for all your work,
    Chase

    • Hi Chase,

      I’ve answered your questions below:

      1. The initial feel of the Alexander Hybrid will be much softer. After the Tempur has a chance to adapt to your body it will feel slightly softer, but not dramatically. However, the feel is quite different.
      2. Alexander Hybrid isn’t as snug as Tempur, which creates a very dramatic contoured hug. I’d say it’s 65% as snug as Tempur-pedic.
      3. Not a question you asked, but I do believe the Voila is similar to the Tempurpedic Flex Surpreme in many ways.

Now, based off of the background information you’ve shared, I do believe you would be happier on the Alexander hybrid. The Voila is a great mattress, but I believe the quilted cover on the Alexander hybrid will make a huge difference.

  4. Between the helix and the hybrid nest bed which one do you think is a better mattress for a side sleeper that could possibly have back pain with a softer mattress? Or is there any other suggestions between the mattresses that you have reviewed? I’m not a huge fan of memory foam mattresses.

    • Between these two mattresses I would recommend the Helix. The Alexander hybrid is not a soft mattress, but the quilted cover may give you some issues. On the other hand, with the Helix you will have the opportunity to take a short quiz and list your concerns. After doing so, Helix will create a mattress with your wants and needs in mind. Personally, I believe you’d be much happier on a Helix than the Alexander hybrid.

  5. Post Script to original query.

I sleep in any position I find comfortable. I am a “traveler” when I sleep – always looking for a new position and cool spot.

    Weigh 111# and am 5’3″.

    Again, thank you.

  6. Hi. First, great reviews you have provided and most helpful. Follows, are my questions I have not seen addressed. Hopefully, you can provide some valuable information.

Looking for new mattress. My medical concerns, include osteoporosis, advancing rheumatoid and fibromyalgia with nerve sensitivity scored at 7 out of 10. No complaints about the medical stuff – just life and all workable.

    1. Best mattress for adjustable base.
    2. Should I purchase longer mattress for adjustable base?
    3. I generate high body heat ( my room is at 68 degrees all year round, plus sleep with window open and use ceiling fan) Live in Missouri, so get all four seasons. Best cooling mattress you have found.
    4. Am going to purchase a Q if affordable.
    5. Would appreciate your input.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for your kind words.

Based off of the information you’ve shared, I would recommend taking a look at the Loom & Leaf, Amerisleep Liberty, and the Leesa mattress. All 3 of these could be a good fit and meet the criteria you have listed. Additionally, all 3 of these will work on an Adjustable base and tend to maintain a cool sleeping surface.

  7. Would love to win this. I have arthritis in both hips and have not slept on a bed in over 3 years as it hurts to much to sleep in the bed I have. I so need this. Thank you for the opportunity to enter the contest.

  8. I was injured as female woodland firefighter and have six herniated discs. Would love to try this mattress for my pain.

  9. This contest is a godsend, fingers crossed for a better night’s sleep win. Thanks for both of you hosting/sponsoring this giveaway.

  10. These old bones are tired. I sure could use a new mattress. Right now at this time in Louisiana I’m sure many of us are in need especially for a bed. Thank you for this opportunity.

  11. We were not aware of this bed but this is an ideal way to learn about them. The reviews by people who own this bed are especially helpful.

  12. Thanks for the help, I emailed Joe at Nest and he agreed that the latex hybrid may be a good option for me and graciously offered to exchange for me. They appear to be a great company to deal with and seem to want to do whatever necessary to make customers happy.

    • That’s great news! Nest really does try to go above and beyond for their customer service. Glad they are making it right.

  13. Thanks for the oppertunity! I could really use this mattress. Mine is over 10 years old and box spring is broken, not good for a bad back let me tell you.

  14. I was wondering how you would compare the latex model to the regular alexander hybrid. I don’t have any experience with latex so was hoping you could help me out with it. I’ve been sleeping on the updated alexander hybrid for about 2 months now and while things are going pretty well I was wondering if the small problems I’m having with it would be any better if I went with the latex version. My biggest concern is that while it is pretty comfortable it is quite soft and seems to be getting softer with each night I sleep on it? I’m a big guy (290lbs) so i also sink in quite a bit which isn’t that big of a deal but I do wake up with a little back soreness so wondering if it could be a little too soft. I’m assuming the latex would give a little firmer feel possibly, but don’t want to overcompensate because I am a side sleeper. Also a little intrigued by the wool cover in that it may be cooler because I am a warm sleeper although the hybrid is not bad in that respect. Of course the downside is the price difference. Do you feel it would be worth a shot for me?

    • Hi Russell,

Sure thing. For starters, latex is a more responsive material. Therefore, you’re going to see added bounce as well as a quicker response time when pressure is applied. The covers of these mattresses are slightly different as well. The latex hybrid uses 2″ of wool in the cover as compared to the foam used in the Alexander hybrid’s cover. This creates somewhat of a thinner cover on the latex hybrid, but still a nice degree of added softness. The wool also helps in terms of cooling, as wool is able to absorb moisture and prevent heat build up. AT 290 pounds, the latex hybrid may be the more appropriate mattress for you. You will still sink into the mattress, but the sinkage will be less of an enveloped feel and more of a rounded feel around your body. Additionally, the latex hybrid is available in a firm version, meaning you could try the medium out and if it is still too soft, move up to the firm mattress.

All in all, it may be worth it for you to give the latex hybrid a shot.

    Thanks!

    Paula

    • After you’ve done the entry method make sure you click “Continue” on the Gleam Widget. That will actually verify you did the action and add your entries accordingly.

  22. We visited the Nest store and had a very positive experience. We tried the Nest Hybrid before the changes to it and liked it a lot. So we probably need to revisit the store to try it with the changes.

We also bought a Leesa full size mattress for our guest room based on the Sleepolpolis reviews and a visit to the Leesa gallery in SOHO. We haven’t tried it yet for a full night’s sleeop, but it seems perfect for a guest bed.

Sleepopolis is a very useful resource when buying a mattress of any type. Congratulations for a job well done!!

    • Thanks so much for your kind words, John. I’m thrilled Sleepopolis has been such a help to you!
