Does 100% latex really make a big difference? PlushBeds certainly think so, and their Botanical Bliss collection has set out to craft one of the highest quality latex mattresses available online. For this unboxing I took a look at the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss 10″ latex mattress. The mattress is built from 100% natural latex, 100% Joma wool, and quilted organic cotton.

Initial Thoughts

  • Multiple firmness options – This mattress is available in 4 different firmness levels. For this review I tested the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss medium firmness. The PlushBed medium has a true medium feel at a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. This puts it in a bit of a unique space. Most mattresses available online are medium firm (6 out of 10) or firmer, or they they are a true soft (3-3.5 out of 10). The Botanical Bliss is only the second mattress I have tested to date to have a perfect middle 5 out of 10 feel. Having a perfect medium + 3 other firmness levels make the PlushBed a good option for most sleepers.
  • Great cooling & bounce – I’ve tested several mattresses that use latex comfort layers as the top layer of foam, but this is the first 100% latex mattress I have tested. I was surprised to find that it really does make a notable difference. As with all latex mattresses, the Botanical Bliss mattress has great bounce, cooling, and a balanced overall hug. The feel of 100% latex pushes these attributes to their maximum, creating a feel that is highly enjoyable.
  • Heavy and difficult to move – without question the most frustrating part of the mattress is simply moving it. Latex is extremely heavy. A standard King mattress is 130 pounds. But more than simply the weight, latex doesn’t create a significant rigidity in the foundational layers. This makes it feel like moving dead weight. I would highly recommend at least 2 people when setting up or moving the mattress.

  1. I’m a 6′-0″ tall 190 lb side sleeper with periodic neck and lower back pain who has been sleeping on a tempur-pedic for many years and am now looking to buy a new mattress. I cant fit a king coil spring mattress into the elevator of my bldg (have been told that they cannot be bent w/o damaging the springs ) so am choosing between a memory foam and all latex mattress. I like the coolness and all natural aspects of the all latex and am considering the PlushBeds Botanical that you have reviewed. Is there any advantage to memory foam over all latex that I should know about ? Cost is not a factor.
    Thanks

    • There are no obvious advantages to memory foam over latex, just a difference in feel. Memory foam is going to have a slower response time, greater pressure relief and deep compression. On the other hand, latex foam is more natural, has more bounce and generally better cooling. Based on the factors you mention being important to you, I think latex would be a good choice for you.

  2. I love your site – very informative and helpful. I wanted to let you know that I recently returned a Zenhaven latex mattress – it sagged after 1 month of use and I’m not a heavy person. After reading other mattress review sites, I learned that this is common with 100% talalay latex mattresses (talalay is softer and better for top layers). When there is not enough support in the core of the mattress, it sags. I now purchased this Botanical Bliss mattress form Plushbeds – it is a 100% natural latex mattress with a dunlop latex core and a talalay latex top. Dunlop latex provides more of a dense core which gives you the best support and your mattress will last longer. It is also organic with all certifications – gols; gots; oeko-tex; greenguard gold; etc. I love this mattress – it is very comfortable; healthy & organic and I can already feel the difference with the underlying support.

    • Hi Jackie,

I’m sorry to hear that the Zenhaven caused so much trouble. On the other hand, I’m happy to hear you’ve found the right mattress with the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss. I really like the Plushbeds also. I have a hard time picking between the two.

Sounds like you’ve got plenty of good sleep ahead of you on your new mattress! So glad to hear it’s working out :)

    • Hi Tracy,

Both of these are excellent mattresses. If I had to pick one, I would recommend the Zenhaven. The ability to flip this mattress and have a different firmness level on the other side means you are essentially purchasing two quality mattresses. Additionally, the Zenhaven performed slightly better throughout my sleep test. By no means is the Botanical Bliss a bad mattress, but the Zenhaven’s performance is hard to beat.

  3. Hello
So happy to find your site, and it happens the Plushbeds Botanical Bliss is what I am looking to buy in the 12 in, trying to find the 100% latex, this has Dunlop for base by a green manufacter overseas, and Talalay on the comfort layers, made at Global International, latex international from here in USA, can’t wait to see your final review, after 3 back surgeries, I had one from Jamison but wore it our after 15 years, having to find a replacement everyone s using this blended latex calling it 100% natural but it’s a blend
    Thanks so much
    Vanessa
