Though both the Puffy Cloud and Nectar are memory foam mattresses, that doesn’t mean they’re built the same. In fact, they actually have pretty distinct construction profiles. So, let’s discuss a few of my biggest takeaways.
Main Similarities
- Both mattresses have all-foam constructions and have layers of memory foam to provide some contouring and sinkage.
- Both the Nectar and the Puffy Cloud come at similar and affordable price points.
- Though both mattresses have cooling features to help mitigate the heat trapping tendencies of memory foam, I wouldn’t say either one sleeps especially cool.
- These mattresses don’t have the best edge support. If you’re looking for a bed with strong edge support I’d recommend a hybrid mattress or innerspring mattress.
Main Differences
- The Nectar provides a bit more sinkage. The Nectar has more memory foam than the Puffy Cloud so you’ll have a more classic memory foam contouring feel.
- The Puffy Cloud has a more supportive feel and is a bit more responsive than the Nectar.
- The Nectar absorbs motion better than the Puffy Cloud, which means you’ll feel less movement from one side of the bed on the other.
Puffy Cloud and Nectar Mattress Feel Comparison
Now that we’ve discussed some of the basics about each of these beds, let’s get into the good stuff — how these mattresses feel! Below, I’m going to do my best to paint a snapshot of each bed’s unique vibe by considering factors like firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, sinkage, and more.
But before we do that, a small note to say that all feel factors are subjective and can change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my reads of these mattresses could very well differ from your own.
Puffy Cloud
The Puffy Cloud is a medium-soft to medium-firm mattress that I’d rank at a 6/10 on the firmness scale with 1 being the softest mattress in the world and 10 being the firmest. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed is right between soft and firm.
Though it’s true that memory foam is a soft material, not all memory foam mattresses are super gentle. The Puffy Cloud, for example, bolsters its memory foam top layer with sections of firm poly foam and high-density poly foam. These materials work to curb some of the memory foam’s natural sinkage and body-contouring, producing a supportive feel. I think both back and side sleepers could benefit from this vibe as it provides ample pressure relief and support.
Nectar
The Nectar is also on the slightly softer side of things at a 6/10 on the firmness scale.
The Nectar features five inches of plush memory foam in its construction, which produces a soft feel. While everyone interacts with memory foam differently (some sink straight through the material while others take a bit longer to do so), almost all sleepers will experience the material as quite gentle. For that reason, most folks will feel more “in” the Nectar than “on top” of it. In my opinion, this sinky vibe could work especially well for strict side sleepers or anyone who struggles with joint pain. Stomach and combo sleepers, however, may find the bed just a touch too soft for their needs.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Puffy Cloud and the Nectar
When choosing a mattress, it’s important to keep in mind that our body type and primary sleeping position can dictate our experience on a bed. A light person who sleeps on their back and a heavy person who sleeps on their side could lay on the same mattress and think it feels radically different! So here I’ll go over how I think different sleepers will experience the Nectar and Puffy Cloud.
Puffy Cloud
Back — Back sleepers in the light to average weight groups should be happy on the Puffy Cloud! They should experience solid support combined with pressure relief around the lower back. Heavier back sleepers probably won’t get enough support from the Puffy Cloud to maintain their spinal alignment.
Side — For slumbering on your side, light and average weight folks will be good on the Puffy Cloud as well! It’s easy to sink into this mattress and get some excellent pressure relief. However, heavier sleepers will likely sink in a bit too much to get proper support on the Puffy Cloud.
Stomach — The Puffy Cloud isn’t the best mattress for stomach sleepers of any body type, as it isn’t firm or supportive enough to prevent sleepers’ hips from sinking into the mattress. Sinking hips can cause the back to bow, leading to back pain over time.
Body Weight — Light to average weight sleepers are the weight groups I’d recommend the Puffy Cloud for. Lighter folks may find the Puffy Cloud to be a touch firmer than the average weight group would, as they won’t sink in as much. But heavy people won’t get enough support from this soft, foam mattress.
Nectar
Back — The Nectar is a comfortable mattress for light to average weight back sleepers! For the lighter folks, the Nectar should feel medium-firm to firm and offer lots of support. For average weight sleepers, it’ll probably feel more like a medium-soft/medium-firm mattress and they should experience some body-contouring around the lower back. However, the Nectar isn’t supportive enough for heavy back sleepers.
Side — Average weight side sleepers will do best on the Nectar mattress. They should get lots of body-contouring and pressure relief on this bed. Light side sleepers will likely find the Nectar too firm and heavy side sleepers won’t get enough support.
Stomach — I don’t think the Nectar is a great choice for stomach sleepers of any body type, as it’s not quite firm enough to keep their hips elevated. If you’re on the lighter side and occasionally sleep on your stomach, you’d probably be okay on the Nectar. But overall I’d steer stomach sleepers to a firmer, more supportive mattress.
Body Weight — The Nectar is best suited to average weight sleepers, although lighter folks can do well in certain sleeping positions. Overall though, the Nectar is lacking in support for heavier body weights. For better options for heavier folks, I’d recommend checking out our roundup of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Now let’s figure out what’s inside each of these beds. Though they are both all-foam mattresses and have memory foam layers, their overall constructions are different. Additionally, both mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified to be free from harmful chemicals and pollutants. Below, I’m going to walk you through their distinct constructions.
Puffy Cloud
Cover – The Puffy Cloud mattress cover is made of a polyester blend that’s soft and cozy to the touch and is stain-resistant.
Comfort Layer – Beneath the cover, you’ll land on a layer of the brand’s Cooling Cloud Foam™, which has a slow response to pressure for contouring relief at pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. This material is designed to cradle the sleeper as they press into the structure, so could be a good fit for folks who deal with joint pain. And while memory foam has a slight reputation for overheating at night, Puffy tries to mitigate this issue by infusing its foam with a cooling gel.
Transition Layer – Next up, you’ll spy a 2” layer of poly foam, called Climate Comfort Foam™. This material has a quicker response to pressure than the memory foam above it, so helps to curb some of that layer’s sinkage and transition the sleeper into the firmer base below.
Base Layer– The base layer of the Puffy Cloud mattress is made up of high-density poly foam, a firm core support foam which brings some stability to the overall structure.
Nectar
Cover – The Nectar cover is a quilted cooling cover that’s heat-wicking.
Comfort Layer – As in the Puffy Cloud, the first layer here is one of gel memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, providing plenty of space for the sleeper to sink in for deep pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. And as we discussed above, the gel infusion helps to counteract memory foam’s tendency to absorb and trap body heat.
Transition Layer – Under the first layer of memory foam lies a section of firm transition foam. With a slightly quicker response to pressure than the foam above it, this layer works to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below.
Base Layer – Again, we spot a support layer of high-density poly foam. This firm material gives the bed its stability and shape, working to support the softer foams above it.

Well folks, we’ve officially arrived at the end of this guide, which means it’s time to wrap things up with a few final thoughts (and recommendations!) from me.
First and foremost, I think the Nectar is going to be the best bet for folks after deep pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. While both mattresses use memory foam to alleviate tension at these sensitive spots, the Nectar does a slightly better job of cushioning these joints. In general, I’d say that this model could be a real winner for strict side sleepers or folks looking to find a mattress for fibromyalgia or arthritis.
In terms of the Puffy Cloud, it’s probably most well-suited to back and combination sleepers, particularly those who switch between their side and another position in the night. Long story short, if you like the idea of memory foam, but don’t want to feel too “stuck” in your bed, the Puffy Cloud could be an excellent choice for you.
