The Nolah Natural Mattress pairs organic latex with recycled steel coils. But can these eco-friendly materials deliver on comfortable, supported sleep? Our team of expert mattress testers ran this latex hybrid mattress through a series of tests designed to answer that very question. We looked under the covers, so to speak, to rate everything from firmness and feel to performance across multiple categories. We also considered the overall buying experience for the most well-rounded take.

The Sleepopolis team has evaluated more than 330 mattresses and helped over 60,100 people find the best mattresses for their sleep needs. We leaned into that experience to carefully assess the Natural so we can make the most accurate recommendations about this firmer-than-average hybrid. Our team also works with a network of medical professionals, including board-certified doctors, physical therapists, and sleep experts, who review our findings for accuracy. For the Nolah Natural, we checked in with our chief medical officer Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, for relevant insights.

During testing, we found the latex layers in the Nolah Natural lived up to their reputation for excellent responsiveness and pressure relief. We think it’s a great fit for back sleepers, and lightweight stomach sleepers should also fare very well on its buoyant surface. With its lightning-fast response time, it’s also very well suited to combination sleepers.

The Nolah Natural is made with eco-friendly Talalay latex and supportive coils. This mattress has GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic wool, cotton, natural latex, and recycled steel. The latex makes this mattress responsive, which is great for couples and combination sleepers. This material is also naturally hypoallergenic and cooling, which can help hot sleepers prevent overheating. For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

“It has a very soft, plush feel that provides you some cushioning as well. I’d say you’re going to feel more “on top” of this bed than “in it” — thanks to its bouncy latex.” – Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor.

 Nolah Natural Mattress Overview

As the name implies, the Nolah Natural is made with natural materials, including organic cotton and organic Talalay latex that meets the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS). Natural latex and organic cotton are known for offering exceptional safety and comfort in mattresses, says Dr. Raj Dasgupta, the chief medical officer here at Sleepopolis. The Nolah Natural is also fiberglass free, with a fire retardant fiber blend layer up top that adds extra cushioning.

We like that it’s GREENGUARD Gold certified as well, which means it meets stringent standards for low chemical emissions. In other words, it doesn’t off-gas the way traditional foam mattresses do, so it contributes to a healthier indoor environment. That makes this hypoallergenic mattress a great choice for more sensitive populations. According to Dr. Raj Dasgupta, people with allergies should consider a hypoallergenic mattress made with materials that fight common allergens, including dust mites, mildew and mold. That includes natural latex.

Two latex layers and zoned coils give this 11-inch hybrid a very responsive bounce, along with gentle contouring around the body’s curves. But unlike the hugged sensation of memory foam, the Nolah Natural has a more lifted sensation. You don’t feel like you’re sinking into the mattress — it’s very much an “on top” experience.

The Natural is a bed-in-a-box, but latex adds weight so plan ahead for delivery. You’ll want an extra set of hands to get the mattress in place. Once you open it, it’s easy to unravel with two people and it expands quickly. We were surprised that the mattress had a faint odor, detectable only when we actually kneeled down and smelled the surface directly. But it dissipated quickly, and because the mattress is made with natural materials and GREENGUARD Gold certified, it’s not caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like many online mattresses.

During testing, the mattress earned full marks for responsiveness and scored an average of 4.2 out of 5 stars in pressure relief. It fared lower than expected for cooling ability with 3.5 stars and quite poor in motion isolation with just 2 stars. Overall, the Nolah Natural earned 4.3 stars out of 5.

Nolah Natural Value

Value isn’t a reflection of the price tag alone. It takes into account material quality, mattress performance, and expected lifespan to answer the question: Is this mattress worth the money? Natural and organic materials tend to drive costs upward, but they add to the sustainability factor. Latex is known for its standout durability, especially in comparison to polyurethane foam, and the two layers in the Nolah Natural will likely add to its lifespan. Dr. Raj Dasgupta notes that latex offers both resilience and allergen resistance.

Despite its upgraded materials and zoned coils, the Natural nevertheless remains a budget-friendly buy. At full price, a queen-size Natural retails for $2,099, but the brand has regular sales that drop the price considerably. At time of writing, it was 30-percent off and priced at $1,469. It’s a great price for a hypoallergenic hybrid mattress, especially considering its performance during our testing. While it had a few shortfalls that some sleepers will want to avoid, it’s a great mattress overall.

Nolah offers a 120-night sleep trial, but there is a $99 fee if you choose to return it. All Nolah mattresses purchased after February 1, 2025, are covered by a limited lifetime warranty that covers all manufacturing defects. Given its materials and construction, it’s reasonable to expect the Natural to last close to 10 years or so.

What Is the Nolah Natural Made Of?

We like to double-check brand claims when we test mattresses by cutting into the side. That gives us a clear view of the layers and construction. In the Nolah Natural, we found two layers of latex foam and a coil system. There’s also a fiber layer just beneath the soft cotton cover.

The Nolah Natural mattress sitting in a white room.

Cover – Organic cotton makes Nolah’s cover soft and breathable.

Comfort Layer A fiber blend layer with organic wool serves as fire protection and adds cushioning.

Comfort LayerThe first organic latex layer is thicker, contributing to the Natural’s responsive bounce and lending pressure relief.

Support Layer This firmer layer of organic latex has a supportive role, but it also serves as a transition layer to the coils below.

Support Layer Eight-inch coils give the Natural the bulk of its structure and strength. The coils are arranged in three support coils, with firmer support in the center third of the mattress — the area of deepest compression — to help with spinal alignment.

Base Layer – A second layer of the fire retardant fiber blend is situated beneath the coils for extra stability and durability. The bottom cover is also made with organic cotton and includes handles, which makes the mattress easier to move.

Nolah Natural Mattress Firmness

Mattresses are often ranked on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being very soft and 10 being very firm. But this firmness rating is most useful as a guideline, not a fact, because individual considerations always play a role. A sleeper with more body weight who prefers to spend the night on their stomach may find a mattress quite soft, while a lightweight side sleeper can consider the very same mattress too firm. A mattress with a firmness level of 6.5 out of 10 is considered a true medium-firm. Softer mattresses will have a lower score, while firmer mattresses will clock in at a higher number.

Firmness 6.5 1 930x275 1

According to Nolah, the Natural is a medium-firm mattress with a 6.5 rating. That was the experience of Sleepopolis tester Riley Otis in the back and stomach positions. But she found it veered a touch firmer when she tested it on her side. “The zoned support is firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders, which I could feel when lying down,” she said. “My hips were lifted higher than my shoulders, and I could feel pressure building at my shoulders.” While Riley qualifies as a lightweight sleeper under 130 pounds, she thinks even average and heavyweight sleepers, who will find more sinkage on their sides, will be more comfortable with a softer bed that offers a little more contouring.

On her back, Riley was really impressed with the Natural. “I could feel the zoned support lifting my hips in line with my shoulders, which felt amazing,” she said. “My spine felt really aligned, so I think people with back pain could find relief on this bed. There was no gapping at my lumbar region — the top layer of foam contoured and filled in the space nicely.”

The mattress was equally comfortable when she flipped to her stomach. That’s Riley’s preferred sleeping position, and she said the Natural was a great fit. “My hips barely sank in at all, and my spine was placed in a neutral, straight line,” she added. “I could feel the zoned support system that is firmer at the hips. This helped keep them propped up and in line with my shoulders.” Just note that there’s a chance that average and certainly heavyweight sleepers find more sinkage in this position.

Nolah Natural Mattress Performance

Beyond construction and how a mattress feels, there are performance factors that can make or break a specific model for different kinds of sleepers. In our North Carolina testing studio, several Sleepopolis mattress testers evaluated the Nolah Natural to rate its pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling prowess, and edge support. Let’s get to it!

Nolah Natural Pressure Relief Performance

Dr. Raj Dasgupta notes that latex is a pressure-relieving material. That’s because it distributes body weight evenly, which means areas like the hips and shoulders can sink in slightly while lighter parts of the body stay supported. This combination helps reduce pressure point pain. Going into our pressure relief tests, we had high expectations for this latex hybrid mattress.

We had three Sleepopolis testers evaluate the Nolah Natural in both the side- and back-sleeping position. Our lightweight tester, Asha Birjah, gave the mattress 4 out of 5 stars on her side. She experienced a little pressure forming in her hips, with zero neck strain and no pressure in her shoulders. On her back, she experienced comfortable low back cushioning. “I actually feel relief at my neck, which is an issue for me,” she said. She gave the Natural another 4 stars.

Erin Chiles, our medium-weight tester, had a similar experience in both positions. On her side, she liked that she wasn’t sinking in and noted a touch of pressure in her shoulders, which is normal in a firmer mattress. “I feel comfortable and supported on my back. The mattress feels firm and the pressure relief feels good,” she said. “I like that I don’t have a lot of sinkage in my lower back so I feel a lot more aligned in my shoulders.” In both positions, Erin scored the Natural 4 stars.

For Sleepopolis tester Caine Wilkes, a heavyweight sleeper, sinkage was minimal. While he says he felt a little pressure building in his shoulders, he gave the mattress 4 stars in this position. Things improved when he shifted to his back. “Everything feels aligned,” he said. “There’s a good amount of cushioning at the lower back, and my weight is being evenly distributed.” He gave the mattress a full 5 stars for pressure relief in the back-sleeping position.

Nolah Natural Motion Isolation

If you sleep alone, this isn’t the most important feature in a mattress. But anyone who shares the bed with a pet or partner will appreciate good motion isolation, because it limits the transfer of movement in the bed. If your dog hops into bed in the middle of the night, or your bed partner tosses and turns, motion isolation is the difference between being jostled awake or staying blissfully asleep. Latex is naturally buoyant, so it doesn’t have a great reputation for motion isolation like memory foam mattresses do. Indeed, this is where the Nolah Natural pulled its lowest score — just 2 stars out of 5.

Sleepopolis tester Riley Otis performed a ripple test, which involves placing a basin of water on one side of the bed, then observing the movement of the water when she gets in on the other side. “The water didn’t remain still when getting in and out of bed,” she said. “There were more than a few ripples — there were waves in the water tub.” She gave the Natural 3 stars for this test.

In the second test, Riley observed the water while she moved from her back to a side-sleeping position. Again, the Nolah Natural came up short, with water sloshing heavily. In fact, motion in the mattress transferred so well that water actually sloshed up and out of the basin onto the mattress when Riley moved from her back to her side. That earned the Nolah Natural 2 stars.

For the third and final motion isolation test, Riley replaced the water basin with a human partner. As Riley lay on one side of the bed with a blindfold, her partner climbed in and out and changed between different sleeping positions. According to Riley, it was comparable to being on a trampoline. “I could feel every small movement she made on the other side of the bed,” she added. “I felt the most disturbance when she switched sleeping positions. My body was jostled a lot, and it felt like I was on a waterbed.” Riley gave the Natural 1 star for this test. Based on its performance, we wouldn’t recommend this bed to couples if one partner is a light or restless sleeper.

Nolah Natural Responsiveness

This is another category that matters more to some sleepers than others. If you fall asleep and wake up in the same position, responsiveness isn’t necessarily a big deal. But combination sleepers who move around a lot in the night need a mattress that responds quickly to their movements. Otherwise, they can feel stuck, which can be disruptive enough to wake you up, affecting overall sleep quality. Some materials snap back into position quickly, while others are much more slow moving. Latex responds instantaneously — it naturally has a lot of bounce, which is why it transfers so much movement. The Nolah Natural didn’t disappoint in this category, earning a full 5 stars.

Riley began this assessment with a switch test, which simply involves evaluating how easy or difficult it is to move from one sleeping position to another. “It was very easy to move around on this bed,” she said. “The Nolah Natural is extremely bouncy, and this really aided my mobility — I felt like I could simply bounce from one position to the next.” She gave the mattress full marks.

In the second test, Erin used a 53-pound kettlebell and a stopwatch. She placed the kettlebell on the center of the mattress for 7 seconds and then removed it, using the stopwatch to time how long it took for the Natural to return to its original shape. It was quick — just .19 seconds. Again, the mattress earned full marks.

Nolah Natural Kettlebell

Erin also used the kettlebell in our third test. She put it back in the center of the bed and a ruler to measure the depth of sinkage. At just 2.6 inches, the Nolah Natural qualified as “low sinkage,” earning it another 5-star rating. It’s an indication that body contouring is limited, though there is slight cushioning. This is typical of latex, which doesn’t have the deep sink common to materials like memory foam.

For our fourth and final test, Erin dropped a 25-pound steel ball onto the mattress from a six-foot height. She used a yardstick to measure the height of its bounce. It rebounded 33 inches into the air, which is considered very high bounce. Once again, the Natural got 5 stars.

Nolah Natural Cooling

Some materials are more likely to hold onto heat than others, which can be an issue if you’re prone to overheating at night. Since thermoregulation is a normal part of the sleep cycle, a mattress that doesn’t trap heat is important. Latex tends to do well here because it stays temperature neutral. During testing, we were surprised that the Nolah Natural’s performance in this category was a little underwhelming. It earned just 3.5 stars.

Riley used a thermal gun to get a read on the bed’s surface temperature before she laid on it. It was 65.9 degrees. She rested on it for five minutes before taking a second read. We consider an increase of 5 degrees or fewer an indication of excellent cooling. Good cooling is an increase of 5 to 10 degrees, while decent cooling is 10 to 15 degrees. Poor cooling is an increase of 15 degrees or more. The Nolah Natural increased 9.5 degrees, which is a sign of good cooling.

But Riley’s subjective experience was telling. “When I first laid down on this bed, I thought it felt really cool,” she said. “However, I could notice the bed heating up the more I laid there. By the end of the five minutes, I could already tell that the bed heated up significantly.” That’s surprising, given the Natural’s latex foam and its hybrid construction, which allows for more airflow. “I felt heat building the most where my skin made direct contact with the bed,” Riley added, which is why she gave the Natural 3.5 stars in this category.

Nolah Natural Edge Support

Edge support describes how stable and sturdy a mattress is around its perimeter. Couples benefit from a bed with strong edge support because it maximizes the sleep surface, allowing both partners to stretch out all the way to the sides without feeling like they might roll off. People with mobility issues often need sturdy edges as well, because it makes it easier to get in and out of bed. Hybrid mattresses tend to outperform their all-foam counterparts because of their coil layers, and the Nolah Natural didn’t disappoint. It earned its second highest score with 4.8 stars in this category.

Sleepopolis tester Kayla Godfrey completed our first test, which involves placing stacks of weighted plates on the edge of the mattress. This is an objective test, with each stack representing different weight classes — we use a 99-pound stack, a 154-pound stack, and a 198-pound stack and measure the depth of collapse with a ruler. From lightest to heaviest, the Nolah Natural sank 2 inches, 2.5 inches, and 3 inches, earning 5 stars for each.

In our second test, Riley sat on the edge of the bed with her feet on the floor. She moved to a standing position, observing how supported she felt and whether it felt necessary to use her hands to rise. Surprisingly, Riley thought the edge support was just average, in spite of its zoned support coils. “I could feel a distinct difference in support depending on where I sat,” she said. Since the latex foam is pretty bouncy, it offered a little boost that made standing pretty easy. “ I think the coils put in work to keep me lifted, but I didn’t feel super stable,” she added. “The closer to the edge I sat, the more I felt like I might slip off.” Riley gave the Natural 4 stars in this test.

A woman sitting on the edge of the Nolah Natural mattress to test its edge support.

Next, Riley assessed edge support by lying down on the side of the bed. It was a vast improvement. “I didn’t feel any significant sinkage or sagging, and I felt just as supported as the center of the bed,” she said. “I think this bed would allow couples to fully spread out and sleep right up to the edge. I definitely felt more supported and secure lying down then sitting directly on the edge.” She gave the mattress 5 stars.

Nolah Natural Mattress Performance for Couples

We base mattress performance for couples off categories that apply particularly to bed partners: cooling, responsiveness, motion isolation, and edge support. The Nolah Natural earned an average of 3.8 stars, which isn’t terrible. But there are certainly better mattresses for couples, especially if one of you is a light sleeper. It’s the motion isolation that drags down the Nolah’s score for couples. Restless sleepers should proceed with care.

Other Performance Factors to Consider

We like to give readers the most well-rounded review possible, so we perform a few additional assessments to cover all the bases.

Sex

A bed’s score for sex is the average of three tests: responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. The Nolah earned 4.4 stars here. It has excellent bounce, which will make it easy for sexual partners to move around comfortably, and its stable edges mean they won’t need to limit their activities to the center of the bed. It’s likely cool enough to keep things from becoming overly steamy as well.

Noise

Most new mattresses don’t make much noise, even if they have coils. We do our best to press, push, and jump on all the mattresses we test to see if we coax some sound, and Erin actually succeeded on the Nolah. “It sounded like a squeaking from the foam compression,” she shared, which earned the mattress 4 stars.

Base Compatibility

Adjustable bases are quite popular, so we assess compatibility when we test mattresses. The Nolan Natural is quite flexible, so it conformed nicely to the base. Erin moved the base into different positions to check for gaps. When she lay on it in the zero-gravity position, she said it was comfortable. She gave the mattress 3 stars.

Durability

To evaluate durability, we check our crystal ball. That is, we consider material quality, the support layer, edge support, and the warranty. Since the Nolah Natural is made with latex, it’s going to offer more durability than beds made with polyurethane foam. Its hybrid construction is also a plus, since mattresses with coils usually outlast all-foam models. The limited lifetime warranty is another good sign indicating that Nolah expects its mattress to perform well for a long time.

Of course, no mattress lasts forever, but we anticipate a lifespan of 8 to 10 years for the Nolah Natural.

Nolah Natural Sleeping Position and Body Weight

Mattress performance is very closely linked to individual body weights and sleep styles, both of which affect how much weight is placed on different parts of the body. Below, we outline how the Nolah Natural performs for back, side, and stomach sleepers in each weight class.

Before we dive into our recommendations, though, we want to recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 230 pounds).

As a general takeaway, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average-weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average-weight sleepers and sink into the mattress more. As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers likely need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.

Is the Nolah Natural a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?

  • Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers will be very comfortable, with ideal spinal alignment and gentle contouring in the lumbar zone.
  • Light Side Sleepers – The mattress is probably going to feel too firm for this group, especially in the hips, which may feel uncomfortably elevated thanks to the firmer support in the center.
  • Light Stomach Sleepers – These people can expect excellent hip elevation for a straight, neutral spine.
A woman stomach-sleeping on the Nolah Natural mattress.

Is the Nolah Natural a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 pounds)?

  • Average-Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers should be comfortable, with a nice balance of alignment and cushioning.
  • Average-Weight Side Sleepers – For people in this group who prefer a firmer feel, the Natural should deliver. But those with sensitive hips or shoulders may want to look for something softer.
  • Average-Weight Stomach Sleepers – This group may sink in a touch too far to maintain a neutral spine, depending on whether they’re closer to lightweight or heavyweight weight ranges.

Is the Nolah Natural a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 230 pounds)?

  • Heavy Back Sleepers – These sleepers could be sufficiently supported, but there will be more sinkage. While that might appeal to some, a mattress designed for more weight may be a better choice.
  • Heavy Side Sleepers – This group will sink in more deeply and will likely find the mattress a good fit with enough cushioning around the hips and shoulders.
  • Heavy Stomach Sleepers – People in this position and weight class are likely going to need more support to keep the hips properly elevated.
A woman back-sleeping on the Nolah Natural mattress.

My Final Thoughts About the Nolah Natural Mattress

Like any mattress, the Nolah Natural has its strengths and weaknesses. That’s what makes it really well suited for certain kinds of sleepers — and worth avoiding for others.

Who I Recommend the Nolah Natural For

  • Combination sleepers who need a mattress with quick response will find they can move effortlessly on this latex hybrid.
  • Back sleepers should find an excellent balance of uplifting support and cushioning in the lumbar zone.
  • Lightweight stomach sleepers will likely benefit from the firmer support in the center third of the mattress, which keeps hips comfortably elevated.
  • Shoppers interested in eco-friendly materials can appreciate the organic cotton, organic latex, and recycled steel coils.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nolah Natural For

  • Couples who are easily disrupted will likely find this bouncy hybrid simply too responsive.
  • Strict side sleepers, especially if they’re lightweight, could find the firmer feel and zoned support isn’t forgiving enough around the shoulders.

Nolah Natural vs. Competitor

One of the best ways of pinpointing the right mattress for your needs is with an apples-to-apples comparison. Here’s how the Nolah Natural compares to similar models on the market.

Nolah Natural vs Birch Natural

The Birch natural is an organic mattress with a latex hybrid construction, and it shares the same responsive feel as the Nolah Natural. It’s a touch firmer — a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale — in all sleeping positions. Despite its similar construction, the Birch outperformed the Natural in motion isolation with 4 stars. That makes it the better choice for couples.

  • Price: A queen-size Birch mattress is a little cheaper than the Nolah at $1,865 compared to $2,099. That’s before promotional pricing for both models. Like the Natural, the Birch is often on sale.
  • Sleeping position: The Birch is firmer than the Natural, but both mattresses perform well for back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers should consider a softer mattress than either of these, especially if they have sensitive hips or shoulders.
  • Cooling: The Birch fared a little better in our cooling tests, earning 4 stars. It shared a similar increase in temperature during the thermal gun test. But during the subjective test, our tester described the mild increase as cozy, not uncomfortable.
  • Body weight: Fans of firmer mattresses in the light and average-weight categories should be comfortable on either mattress, but we wouldn’t recommend them to most heavyweight sleepers.

This isn’t one of the best mattresses for side sleepers, which have a softer feel that better cushions the joints.
It comes at a higher price point. One of the best cheap mattresses might be better for certain budgets. might be better
You won’t find the slow sinkage many look for in the best memory foam mattress.

The Birch Natural is a latex mattress utilizing individually wrapped coils for added support. This mattress specializes in cooling and responsiveness, and the firmer nature suits back and stomach sleepers well. Perhaps the most special part about this mattress is the material quality. Not only is the Birch organic, but it has also earned multiple certifications for safe production and materials. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“Back sleepers of all weights should find lots of support that promotes proper spinal alignment. Also, the organic materials and third-party certifications should appeal to eco-friendly shoppers, who can rest easy knowing their mattress contains no harmful chemicals.” – Riley Otis, staff writer and certified sleep science coach

Other Models From Nolah

Nolah has a collection of mattresses that meet a wide range of sleep needs. The Nolah Evolution is the brand’s top-of-the-line model, a luxury mattress with a soft pillow top. Here’s how both beds compare.

Nolah Natural vs Nolah Evolution

The Nolah Evolution has the same company policies as the Natural — a 120-night trial and a limited lifetime warranty — but it’s designed as a luxury pick. It comes in three firmness choices (plush, luxury firm, and firm) and the option for an upgraded cooling pillow top cover. It’s the brand’s bestselling bed, standing 14 inches tall thanks to a mix of zoned foams and an innerspring coil support system.

  • Price: The Nolah Evolution is more expensive than the Natural, but not by much. A queen size is $2,127 before sales, compared to $2,099 for the Natural.
  • Sleeping position: Since there are firmness options, you can tailor the firmness of the Evolution to your sleeping position. The Natural has a single firmness (between 6.5 and 7) so it’s better for back and stomach sleepers.
  • Cooling: Both beds are hybrids, but the Evolution performed better in our cooling tests. It earned an impressive 4.5 stars so it’s the better choice for hot sleepers.
  • Body weight: Again, the firmness level options accommodate different weight ranges, so there’s more versatility with the Evolution. But we’d only recommend the firm model to heavyweight back and side sleepers. Stomach sleepers in this weight range won’t get the support they need on the Evolution or the Natural.

The Nolah Evolution’s hybrid construction offers the cushioning of memory foam with the responsiveness of coils. The Luxury Firm model is a good option for side and back sleepers, though there are Plush and Firm versions as well. Those who share a bed may also appreciate its low motion transfer, so you won’t be disturbed by a partner’s movements and its solid edge support to allow you to maximize surface area. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“There’s enough cushioning for side sleepers to prevent pressure from building at the hips and shoulders. The mattress also scored highly in motion isolation, edge support, cooling, and responsiveness, all of which are important to couples.” – Riley Otis, staff writer and certified sleep science coach

Our Review Process

At Sleepopolis, our team of certified sleep science coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time lying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.

FAQs

Are Nolah mattresses good?

Nolah mattresses are considered good. There are six models to choose from, including a kids’ mattress, so there are plenty of options for different sleep styles, needs, and preferences.

What is the difference between Nolah and Tempur-Pedic?

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made with the brand’s proprietary memory foam. Nolah mattresses are made with AirFoam or natural latex, which is more responsive and not as prone to trapping heat.

What is the firmness rating of Nolah Natural?

The Nolah Natural has a medium-firm to firm feel (between 6.5 and 7 on the firmness scale, depending on sleep position). That’s thanks to the latex layers.

Are Nolah mattresses non-toxic?

The Nolah Natural is GREENGUARD Gold certified and made with latex certified organic by the Global Organic Latex Standard, so it’s non-toxic. The brand’s other models are made with CertiPUR-US certified foams. Nolah doesn’t use fiberglass in its mattresses.
