No mattress topper is one-size-fits-all, so let’s go over who I think the Puffy mattress topper is good for and who is better off with a different topper.
Who I recommend the Puffy mattress topper for
- Back sleepers looking for some cushioning and contouring will find the Puffy topper comfortable, as it provides pressure relief without making the sleeper feel enveloped.
- Side sleepers who need some additional pressure relief should enjoy the conforming feel of the Puffy topper.
- People with allergies or those who like to ensure a super clean sleep space will appreciate the hypoallergenic materials used in the topper, as well as the removable, machine washable cover.
Who I don’t recommend the Puffy mattress topper for
- Stomach sleepers won’t get much benefit from this topper, as it is too soft to keep their hips from sinking into the bed, which can cause lower back pain. Take a look at our best firm mattress toppers, instead.
- Heavy sleepers, who weigh 250 pounds or more, also may not get the pressure relief they’re looking for with this topper, as it is only two inches thick. Heavy sleepers tend to sink through foam more than average or light sleepers, so they may “bottom out” and still feel the pressure from a firm mattress below.
- If you’re not a big fan of the feeling of memory foam, you may not like this topper. Instead, take a look at a latex mattress topper.

The Puffy mattress topper comes in a soft and a firm version. I tested the soft version for this review. It is available in six different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. I tested the queen size for this review. All the materials used in the Puffy mattress topper are hypoallergenic.
Cover: The cover of the Puffy mattress topper is 60 percent polyester and 40 percent bamboo rayon. It features a skirt with deep pockets that can accommodate a mattress up to 15 inches tall. This skirt keeps the topper secured to the mattress. Additionally, the underside of the cover has anti-slip grips to further keep the mattress in place.
Fill: The Puffy topper’s fill is a 2-inch block of memory foam.

How Does the Puffy Mattress Topper Feel
I tested the Puffy mattress topper by laying on it in different sleeping positions and on different mattresses. But keep in mind feel is subjective, so you may have a different experience than I did. Also note, I tested the soft version of the Puffy mattress topper. There is a firm version, which will have a different feel.
I thought the Puffy topper had a plush, pressure relieving feel. The foam feels dense, so it doesn’t immediately feel super soft, but it conforms around you more the longer you lay on it. To me, this type of topper is great for providing cushioning around pressure points without making the bed feel too squishy.
One of the main purposes of adding a mattress topper to your bed is to change the feel of your sleeping surface. I tested the Puffy topper with mattresses of different firmness levels to get a sense of how it alters the feel.
Soft: Adding this soft Puffy topper to a soft mattress makes the bed feel doughy. This could be a good option for side sleepers who need lots of pressure relief, but it could make getting in and out of bed more difficult.
Medium-firm: When I added the Puffy topper to a medium-firm mattress, I didn’t think the feel had changed dramatically, but it definitely did add cushioning and allowed for more pressure relief. I would say the topper lowered the medium-firm mattress to a true medium. This may be a good option for back sleepers who need pressure relief around the shoulders or who want a memory foam topper to fill in their lumbar region.
Firm: I thought adding the Puffy topper to a firm mattress had a similar effect to the medium-firm one — it added a cushier top layer to provide additional pressure relief, but I still felt the firm support of the bed below. I think this could also be a good option for back sleepers, who don’t like the feel of their firm mattress, but don’t want to go too soft.

My Verdict on the Puffy Mattress Topper
Overall, the Puffy topper is a great option for anyone who wants more pressure relief from their bed but isn’t ready to invest in a new mattress. I like how the foam has a denser feel, which allows you to sink in for pressure relief, but doesn’t make you feel completely enveloped.
I also appreciate the cover of the Puffy mattress topper, which not only secures the topper to the mattress with a skirt, but creates an additional barrier between the foam layer and the sleeper that can be removed and machine washed. That, plus the use of hypoallergenic materials, will help to keep your bed cleaner.
The use of bamboo rayon in the cover will also help with temperature regulation, as bamboo fabrics are naturally cooling. Memory foam does trap body heat easily, but the bamboo cover should keep the topper feeling temperature neutral.
I think the Puffy topper is well-suited to back sleepers who are in need of some contouring in the comfort layer of their bed. It could also work well for some side sleepers, but I would note that it’s not a very thick topper, at just two inches in thickness. Some side sleepers may not get enough pressure relief from two inches of foam, especially if the mattress beneath is quite firm.
I wouldn’t recommend this topper to any stomach sleepers, as stomach sleepers usually want a firm sleep surface. The soft foam that allows you to sink in will likely lead to back pain down the road for stomach sleepers.
