With the growing popularity of morning sheds and TikTok’s “get ready for bed with me” videos, it’s no surprise that the demand for sleep beauty products is rising. Cosmetic giant Estée Lauder is just the latest make-up brand to get in on the beauty sleep trend with their recent launch of overnight skin care.
Estée Lauder’s sleep products seek to help repair the skin overnight and reduce the appearance of tiredness. While no beauty product can replace a good night’s sleep, here’s everything to know about Estée Lauder’s new sleep products.
Estée Lauder’s New Sleep Products and What They Do
In the coming months, Estée Lauder is rolling out their Revitalizing Supreme+: Night Power Bounce Cream and Advanced Night Repair Overnight Treatment.
The two new face creams were created with collagen and energy-boosting ingredients based on recent research about how our skin produces collagen overnight.
“We want to be the leaders and the experts in all things night. We want to have all the solutions that our consumer seeks,” said Jennifer Palmer, Estée Lauder’s senior vice president of global skincare marketing and product development, to Glossy. (1)
Let’s take a closer look at the new products and what they might do.
Revitalizing Supreme+: Night Power Bounce Cream
This face cream focuses on firming and hydrating your skin overnight to help reduce the appearance of lines. It was specifically designed to be worn overnight since your skin naturally produces more healing proteins and collagen during sleep, according to Estée Lauder.
These benefits certainly sound nice, however, all of that comes at a higher price point with a small jar currently going for $120 a pop.
Advanced Night Repair Overnight Treatment
The other cream in Estée Lauder’s latest sleep drop focuses on repairing and energizing skin overnight to make skin appear smoother.
While the first cream focuses more on hydration, this one is unique in that it focuses more on energizing skin. This treatment also comes in at a lower price point than the other cream at $98.
All these benefits might seem too good to be true and with so many beauty products out there it can be hard to tell if you’re getting your bang for your buck. But, there’s been a lot of research recently about the relationship between sleep and skin health.
How Does Sleep Affect Your Skin?
Sleep is known to affect different aspects of skin health such as wrinkles, lines, and overall appearance.
One study found that those who got good, quality sleep showed fewer signs of skin aging and had more energized, bright-looking skin. (2)
No… really. Just like most things when it comes to health, the quality of your sleep has a big impact when it comes to skin health.
“Poor sleep leads to increased cortisol levels, which can break down collagen and result in fine lines and wrinkles. Lack of sleep can cause reduced circulation, leading to a dull complexion and dark circles under the eyes,” Dr. Margaret Schwarz, dermatologist at Noted Dermatology, tells Sleepopolis.
Not only that, but quality sleep helps our skin repair itself and stay healthy.
“Good sleep does wonders for how we look in the morning. When we sleep well, our body repairs itself, reducing puffiness and dark circles while giving our skin a healthy glow,” adds Dr. Chelsea Perry, founder of Sleep Solutions.
Why Are Sleep Beauty Products So Popular?
Getting good sleep in general has become a much higher priority for many nowadays, especially Gen Zers. More attention has been brought to sleep health with the rise of social media and an increased awareness of the impacts of poor sleep.
It seems like you can’t scroll on TikTok these days without seeing an influencer explaining their nighttime routine or making a sleepy girl mocktail that they swear helps them get the best sleep ever.
This has led to an increased demand for sleep products, especially beauty products. In fact, the market for sleep products is now estimated to be worth about $300 billion dollars! (3) No wonder Estée Lauder is getting in on the trend.
Is Sleep Beauty Skincare Effective?
It’s easy to get sucked in by skincare products nowadays on #beautytok, but it can be hard to know if the product is effective, and when it comes to sleep beauty care, it can be even more confusing.
Never fear, many dermatologists say that most sleep beauty skincare products can effectively improve your skin in the short term, but it depends on the product.
“Overnight beauty products can temporarily help lessen the effects of a poor night’s sleep. Some products have hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and reduce the look of fine lines and tiredness. Caffeine-based products can decrease puffiness around the eyes,” says Dr. Schwarz.
Not only that, but skincare can be more effective at night due to the body’s natural sleep habits.
“Products designed to work overnight generally contain higher concentrations of active ingredients, which can be more effective when the skin is in repair mode during sleep. However, the effectiveness can vary from person to person based on skin type and individual needs,” Dr. Hannah Kopelman, a dermatologist at Kopelman Aesthetic Surgery, tells Sleepopolis.
It’s good to know that sleep beauty skincare can be effective, but it’s important to remember that no skincare product can replace the benefits of a good old-fashioned night of good sleep.
Want great skin? Dr. Perry says, “Focus on being properly hydrated, getting a good night’s sleep as often as possible, wear sunscreen and avoid getting too much sun.
