What are the Parachute Percale Sheets Made Of?

Sheets are made with a wide variety of materials. There are cotton sheets, bamboo sheets, linen sheets, and so many more types. Each textile has a unique feel, as well as various pros and cons.

P1052856

The Parachute Percale sheets are made from 100 percent long-staple Egyptian cotton. Long-staple cotton is preferable over short-staple because the ends of longer fibers won’t stick out like shorter ones, creating a softer, smoother, and more durable sheet. Egyptian cotton is also widely regarded as the highest quality cotton, as it is known for having extra long fibers.

As the name suggests, these sheets are made with a percale weave. Percale uses a one-over-one-under weave to create a crisp, lightweight, breathable, and matte fabric.

The Parachute Percale sheets are made in Portugal and are garment washed to be extra-soft right out of the box. They are also OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified, meaning they surpass the highest standards of chemical safety.

Each Parachute Percale sheet set comes with one fitted sheet and two pillowcases. (King and California king sets come with king size pillowcases.) The pillowcases have an envelope-style closure, which means the case closes on the back of the pillow instead of on a side. That prevents the end of the pillow from sticking out.

P1052837

If you want a flat sheet with your Parachute sheet set, you will have to select to add a top sheet for an additional cost.

The Parachute Percale sheet set is available in six different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. I tested the queen size set for this review.

What Do the Parachute Percale Sheets Feel Like?

I thought the Parachute Percale sheets had a classically percale feel: light, crisp, and breathable. The long-staple Egyptian cotton also gives them a nice, smooth feel and the garment washing ensures they feel soft and worn-in already when you take them out of the packaging.

P1052851

One thing that really stood out to me about these sheets, compared to other percale sheets, was just how lightweight they felt. Percale is known for being light and airy and these Parachute Percale sheets are even lighter and more airy than other percale sheets I’ve tested. Lying under the top sheet, it feels like there’s barely anything on top of you.

Are the Parachute Percale Sheets Good for Hot Sleepers?

In my opinion, the Parachute Percale sheets are fantastic for hot sleepers. The breathable cotton percale is great for allowing for airflow. Plus, the sheets are so lightweight that you won’t feel weighed down or feel heat trapping as you sleep.

How Durable are Parachute Percale Sheets?

Durability is an important consideration when choosing sheets. The long-staple cotton used in these sheets should ensure high quality and resistance to pilling over time, compared to a sheet which uses short-staple fibers.

However, when reading through customer reviews for the Parachute Percale sheets, I did notice quite a few complaints in regards to the quality of the sheets. Complaints included sheets tearing in the wash or developing holes in the fabric.

To keep your Parachute Percale sheets in the best condition, be sure to follow the proper care instructions. I’ll go over how to wash these sheets in the FAQ section below or you can visit Parachute’s website for more.

Do the Parachute Percale Sheets Stay on the Bed?

P1052825

The Parachute Percale sheets stayed on the bed quite effectively in my experience. The fitted sheet features a 16 inch pocket, which should accommodate most mattresses. I also appreciated how the pillowcases had envelope-style closures, which keep the pillowcase secured on the pillow. I always get frustrated when pillowcases slip off the pillow in the night and let the end of the pillow stick out, so I love this design feature.

Are Parachute Percale Sheets Good for You?

With all that in mind, let’s go over my recommendations for the Parachute Percale sheets.

P1052819

Who should try Parachute Percale sheets

  • If you like lightweight sheets, these are some of the lightest I’ve ever tested. You shouldn’t feel weighed down or swaddled up in these sheets.
  • If you are a hot sleeper, you should appreciate how breezy and light these sheets feel.
  • If you like a crisp sheet, these percale sheets should meet your expectations nicely.

Parachute Percale sheets complaints

  • If you don’t like wrinkly sheets, these may not be the best for you. I found they wrinkled fairly easily and might require ironing to get them wrinkle-free.
  • Having to purchase a top sheet for an additional cost is also somewhat frustrating, as I think many customers would expect a sheet set to include one. The initial price point listed for these sheets only includes the fitted sheet and pillowcases.
  • Additionally, the customer reviews regarding sheet quality are worth noting. I did not experience these sheets deteriorating, but it seems to be a recurring issue.

Parachute Percale Sheets Vs

Now let’s compare the Parachute Percale sheets to another set of Parachute sheets, as well as to a competitor to ensure you are choosing the best bed sheets for you.

Parachute Percale Sheets vs Parachute Linen Sheets

looking at parachute linen sheets

  • The Parachute Linen sheets are made from 100 percent European flax. Like the percale sheet set, they are made in Portugal and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified.
  • The linen sheets have a more coarse and textured feel than the percale, but I thought they were among the softest linen sheets I’ve ever tested.
  • Being made from linen, these sheets offer fantastic breathability to keep hot sleepers cool.

  • The Brooklinen Classic Core sheets are made from 100 percent long-staple cotton in a percale weave, much like the Parachute Percale sheets.
  • The Brooklinen percale sheets have a structured and crisp, yet simultaneously soft and buttery feel. They are also great for hot sleepers, as they are breathable cotton percale sheets.
  • Brooklinen offers a much wider selection of color options than Parachute does.
