Stomach sleepers need a firm sleep surface to maintain spinal alignment and adding a foam layer to the top of their bed will likely make it too soft, allowing their hips to sink into the bed. - Heavy sleepers, who weigh 250 pounds or more, may want a thicker topper — particularly if they are seeking a lot of pressure relief. Those with a higher body weight will “bottom out” on their topper more than lighter-weight sleepers, so a thicker topper provides more room to sink in.

There are a variety of materials used to make mattress toppers and different materials offer different qualities to a topper. Let’s take a look at the materials used in the Nolah mattress topper.
Cover: The Nolah mattress topper features a cover made from a blend of 71 percent polyester, 24 percent organic cotton, and 4 percent poly lycra. This cover can be unzipped and removed from the topper. It also features elastic straps in all four corners to secure the mattress topper to the bed. This cover can be removed and machine washed.
Fill: The Nolah mattress topper is filled with two inches of Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam, which is 100 percent polyurethane foam. Similar to memory foam, AirFoam is intended to sleep cooler than traditional memory foams, as well as offering a more buoyant feel. Nolah AirFoam is also CertiPUR-US certified for safety.
This topper is available in six sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. I tested the queen size for this review.
How Does the Nolah Mattress Topper Feel
I personally tested the Nolah mattress topper to get a sense of its feel. Overall, I found it to feel like a classic memory foam mattress topper, but slightly more elevating. It offered some contouring and pressure relief, but I didn’t find myself sinking into the topper very deeply. It is only two inches thick, so there isn’t a ton of room to sink into the foam. The AirFoam feels like a middle ground between traditional memory foam and latex foam, which is very buoyant and responsive. Keep in mind this topper comes in two firmness options; I tested the Luxury Firm version of this topper, so the Plush version likely has a different feel. Nolah says, “The Nolah Plush comfort feel offers deep body contouring and extra pressure relief on the hips and shoulders. It’s ideal for dedicated side sleepers and those who want additional cushioning around their joints.”
Here is how the topper feels on different mattresses:
Soft: Adding the Luxury Firm version of the Nolah mattress topper to a soft mattress will give the bed a more buoyant, elevated feel. This could be a good option for sleepers who find their current bed just a bit too soft, but still want pressure relief.
Medium-firm: I found the Luxury Firm mattress topper to have a feel similar to that of a medium-firm mattress, so I don’t think adding it would change the feel of a medium-firm bed much beyond adding additional foam for pressure relief. However, the Plush version might work for making a medium-firm mattress feel softer.
Firm: Adding the Luxury Firm Nolah mattress topper to a firm mattress would be a good option for those who like that supportive, firmer feel, but want just a little more cushioning and pressure relief. The Plush version would be helpful for even more softness.

My Verdict on the Nolah Mattress Topper
The Nolah mattress topper is a high-quality topper that should work well for a variety of sleepers. I appreciate Nolah offering it in two firmness options — Plush and Luxury Firm — which allows shoppers to pick the firmness that best suits their sleeping positions and personal preferences.
I like the details of the organic cotton-blend cover with elastic straps. Having straps to secure the topper in place is handy for preventing it from shifting throughout the night — particularly for combo sleepers or those who toss and turn. I also appreciate the cover being washable.
