Leesa was one of the original bed-in-a-box companies, selling its first mattress as early as 2014. Since then, it’s developed a number of different sleep products (blankets and pillows and foundations, oh my!) as well as new kinds of beds.
Today, I’ll take you through my detailed review of the all-foam Leesa Original and the brand’s other offering, the Leesa Hybrid. While these mattresses have a lot in common, they also have some key differences that make for two totally unique sleeping experiences. If you want to check out my full review of each mattress, you can head over to my Leesa mattress review or my Leesa Hybrid mattress review.

Leesa vs Leesa Hybrid: Which is Better for You?
Depending on your shape, weight, and sleeping position preference, you’re likely to prefer one of these mattresses over the other.
Who Should Buy Leesa
- If you’re a back sleeper who likes the feel of an all-foam mattress, you’re likely to prefer the Leesa.
- Light stomach sleepers will probably be happier on the Leesa, but I’d recommend most stomach sleepers go with something a bit firmer, like one of our best mattress for stomach sleepers.
- If you’re shopping with a tighter budget, the Leesa is probably the better choice for you, as this all-foam bed is less expensive than the hybrid version.

Who Should Buy Leesa Hybrid
- If you’re looking for great edge support, the Hybrid is probably your best bet.
- Side sleepers will appreciate the gentle, pressure-relieving top layers of foam offered by the Leesa Hybrid.
- The Hybrid is a better choice for combination sleepers, since it has enough bounce to allow for easy movement.
- Couples are best suited to the Hybrid since it performed better on our motion isolation test, meaning less movement travels from one side of the bed to the other.
The Leesa Sapira Hybrid mattress combines gentle foams with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support. Back sleepers who like a more responsive mattress should be really happy on the Leesa Sapira.

Though made by the same brand, the Leesa and Leesa Hybrid have pretty different feels. The Leesa is an all-foam mattress and is a bit firmer than medium-firm. - The Leesa and the Leesa Hybrid are pretty responsive mattresses, so you’re not likely to feel stuck in these beds.
Main Differences
- The Leesa is an all-foam mattress, while the Hybrid is made with coils and foam.

- The Leesa is firmer than the Hybrid.
- The Hybrid is more expensive than the all-foam Leesa.
- The Hybrid is a bit cooler thanks to its coils, which help with airflow.
Leesa and Leesa Hybrid Mattress Feel Comparison
Nitty gritty details aside, let’s get down to how these bad boys feel. This is, after all, why you’ve stumbled upon this comparison, so I’m going to do my best to provide you all with a sense of how you’ll experience these mattresses when you’ve turned off the lights and slipped into bed for sleep.
Everyone feels the firmness of a mattress a bit differently, because of size and weight distribution, so I brought in three more testers to try out each of these Leesa beds. Below are the graphs showing the average firmness rating for each of these mattresses.
While feel is, of course, a super personal thing, I’m going to do my best to break down all the aspects that contribute to these mattresses’ fully unique vibes.
Leesa
My testers were in agreement about the firmness of the Leesa, giving it an average firmness level of 7. When compared to the industry standard rating of 6.5 for medium firmness, this mattress is just a touch on the firmer side.
When I stretched out on the Leesa, I definitely felt its supportive lift, but also noticed some great body contouring and sinkage from the memory foam layer. The quick response of the breathable foam allowed me to switch positions easily and prevented me from feeling stuck in the mattress, which tells me this would be a solid pick for a wide range of sleepers.
Leesa Hybrid
My testers were also pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the Leesa Hybrid, giving it an average rating of 6. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for a medium-firm mattress, it’s clear that this hybrid is a medium-soft mattress.
I personally gave the mattress a 6 because while I felt some sinkage from the top foam layers, I also experienced a pleasant boost from the springy coils, which helped me feel like I was sleeping on top of the mattress.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Leesa and the Leesa Hybrid
We all have different experiences with mattresses based on our primary sleep position and body type. Here, I’ll go over how I think different sleepers will experience the Leesa and Leesa Hybrid, based on my experience testing it.
Leesa
Back — The Leesa is a good choice for light to average weight back sleepers! It’ll offer lots of support and maintain spinal alignment. For lightweight sleepers, the Leesa will have a truly firm feel, whereas average weight folks should get a nice mix of support and cushioning. The Leesa isn’t supportive enough for heavy weight sleepers, in my opinion.
Side — The Leesa probably isn’t going to be comfortable for side sleepers of any weight. I wouldn’t recommend it to light to average weight side sleepers, as it’ll be too firm and likely create pressure buildup in their hips and shoulders. For heavy side sleepers, again, the Leesa is lacking in support.
Stomach — I think lightweight stomach sleepers could do well on the Leesa, as it’ll have a truly firm feel. Lighter people shouldn’t sink into the mattress, so their hips will stay elevated. Average to heavy sleepers will find the Leesa too soft and lacking in support for slumbering on their stomach.
Body Weight — The Leesa is not a suitable mattress for heavy sleepers, as it just doesn’t have enough support for a body weight of 250 lbs or more. I’d recommend a more supportive mattress — see our best mattresses for heavy people. As for lightweight and average weight sleepers, it’ll really depend on their primary sleeping position as to whether the Leesa is a good choice.
Leesa Hybrid
Back — The Leesa Hybrid should feel comfortable to light to average weight back sleepers. Both groups should get a nice mix of support and pressure relief from this bed. However, despite the coils, I don’t think the Leesa Hybrid is a supportive enough bed for heavy back sleepers.
Side — I think lightweight side sleepers will get lots of plush cushioning around the hips and shoulders on the Leesa Hybrid. Average weight side sleepers can also do well here, but being a bit heavier, they may sink down to the coils, which could cause some pressure. Again, the Leesa Hybrid is not supportive enough for heavy side sleepers.
Stomach — I don’t think the Leesa Hybrid is supportive or firm enough for stomach sleepers of any weight. To find a bed that’ll ensure your hips stay properly elevated and your spine stays aligned, check out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Body Weight — Overall, the Leesa Hybrid is not supportive enough for heavy sleepers, who weigh 250 lbs or more. For light to average weight sleepers, the Leesa Hybrid works well, depending on sleeping position.

Comparing Leesa and Leesa Hybrid Mattress Materials
The Leesa is made up exclusively of foam while the Leesa Hybrid combines foam with innerspring technology. The differing materials will obviously create disparate feels, so I’m jazzed to dig into these layers and assess them side-by-side.
I’m going to walk you through a brief synopsis of each bed’s specific construction below, but would encourage you to also check out our full reviews of the Leesa and Leesa Hybrid.
Leesa
Cover – Made up of a polyester blend, the cover of the Leesa is soft to the touch and has a cozy feel. Stretching it with my hands, it felt both durable and breathable.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer is constructed of 2” of breathable foam. The material is like latex, which means it responds quickly to pressure and is fantastic at cooling. It also produces a pleasant bounce, which will help to keep the sleeper on top of the mattress as opposed to in it.
Memory Foam – Below the comfort layer, you’ll find 2” of memory foam. This section will produce lovely body contouring and pressure relief, which is great for all sleepers, but especially for those who doze on their sides. And while memory foam has a reputation for overheating, its placement below the cooling comfort layer keeps it from getting too hot.
Base Layer – Finally, the base of the mattress is built with 6” of high-density polyfoam. This layer acts as the foundation of the bed, giving it its structure and support. It’s important to note that since the Leesa is an all-foam mattress, it will have an off-gassing period, so be sure to allow time for an odor to dissipate after unboxing.
Leesa Hybrid
Cover – The quilted mattress cover is a soft knit blend that feels really cozy to the touch. It also features a fun striped design.
Comfort – Next up is a layer of hole-punched poly foam, and below that is a layer of memory foam. The memory foam below the poly foam layer really dominated the mattress’s feel for me, so I considered it part of the Leesa Hybrid’s comfort layer. The hole-punched poly foam works to add some responsiveness and breathability to the memory foam, so you get to enjoy all the body-contouring of a memory foam mattress without sacrificing responsiveness or cooling features.
Transition – Up next, you’ll hit a thin transition layer of poly foam. This material is mostly here to help ease the sleeper from the soft foams up top into the firmer pocketed coil layer below.
Support – The main support system of the mattress is made up of a layer of pocketed coils. Coils help add durability to a mattress, since they’re less likely to sag than coils. These coils are firm and bouncy, working to lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. They’re also individually wrapped, which helps promote airflow throughout the mattress.
Another feature I like about this section is that it extends all the way to the edge of the bed to offer some extra edge support. Edge support allows you to use the entire surface area of the mattress, as it’ll keep you supported all the way to the perimeter. Sturdy edge support will also prevent sagging over time.
Base – To round things out, Leesa’s snuck in a thin layer of high-density foam. This section is really just here to give the coils something to bounce off of.

Leesa vs Leesa Hybrid: Best Qualities
Though you’ll experience quality support and pressure relief from both the Leesa and Leesa Hybrid, their feels are pretty different. The all-foam construction of the Leesa lends this mattress a firmer vibe, with its sinkage mitigated by the quick response of the breathable foam top layer.
The Leesa Hybrid, on the other hand, is less firm and extends the body contouring through the memory foam and into the pocketed coil system. All this really means is that if it’s important for you to be able to move around and feel like you’re sleeping on top of your bed, the Leesa would be my pick for you.
Leesa Best Features
- The Leesa is great for anyone in search of an all-foam feel who also likes a mattress that’s on the firmer side.
- It sleeps cool thanks to its layer of breathable foam above its memory foam layer. Memory foam tends to trap heat, so the layer above it helps mitigate that — a feature that hot sleepers will appreciate.
- It’s a great option for back sleepers who will get a combination of firm support and pressure relief at the lower back.

Leesa Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Great: I was able to immediately connect with a human using the chat function on the Leesa site. I asked “Which Leesa is best for side sleepers” and got a pretty vague answer that all of their mattresses are designed for side sleepers, but once I asked for something soft (which is best for side sleepers) I was able to get some good specific recommendations.
Other Models from Leesa
Studio by Leesa
- The Studio is also an all-foam mattress like the original Leesa, but it’s the brand’s budget-friendly option.
- The Studio is a bit firmer than the original Leesa, making it a good option for stomach and back sleepers, but not the best choice for side sleepers or other sleeping positions.
- It has low motion transfer, so couples aren’t likely to be disturbed by their partner tossing and turning at night.

Leesa Legend
- Like the Leesa Hybrid the Leesa Legend is also a hybrid mattress, but it’s a bit softer than the Hybrid, and I’d say it’s the Leesa’s softest option.
- I really like the Legend for side sleepers, who will appreciate the nice pressure relief they need at the pressure points at the hips and shoulders.
- The Legend is CertiPUR-US® Certified, made from recycled materials, and features an organic cotton and merino wool cover, making it a nice option for eco-minded shoppers.
- Learn more in my full Leesa Legend mattress review.
I love the soft zoned support the Leesa Legend offers. It should provide side sleepers just the right amount of pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. I think this soft feel might also work well for lighter back sleepers.
