If you like the feeling of sleeping on a cloud, then Emma’s newest bed may be your next dream mattress. The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress is the brand’s most luxurious bed, and combines support and cooling technology.
This 14-inch hybrid mattress offers more premium features compared to the European bedding brand’s flagship mattress, the Emma Original, and their most popular mattress, the Emma Hybrid Comfort. But is the brand’s newest and most luxurious bed worth the luxurious price-tag that comes along with it? I’ll answer that and more in this review.
Our team puts every mattress we review through a series of rigorous tests to help you determine whether it is a suitable option for you and your family. I’ll be assessing how the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress performs, feels, and who it’s right for. I’ll give it an overall ranking score based on our Sleepopolis scorecard to help you determine whether this truly is your next dream bed.

Where the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is Featured
The Sleepopolis team uses a series of hands-on tests to determine which mattress roundups a bed belongs to and who it might be good for. Here are some of our 2024 mattress roundups that include the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress:
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Overview
As previously mentioned, the Hybrid Cooling Elite is the brand’s newest and most luxurious mattress and offers more features than the brand’s other two models. Just like the name suggests — this is a hybrid mattress, which means sleepers get the best of both worlds in terms of optimal comfort and support.
However, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress truly shines by offering premium cooling features like graphite-infused memory foam and the brand’s signature Airgocell foam, which helps the mattress absorb body heat, allowing the sleeper to stay cool all night long.
This bed is incredibly breathable, plush, and soft-to-the-touch. It comes with a luxurious cooling cover made with Thermosync™ foam that helps regulate your body temperature. Out of all of the mattresses I’ve tested thus far, this mattress’ cooling covers feels the “coldest” to the touch, making this mattress perfect for extra hot sleepers.
This hybrid mattress does a fantastic job at contouring to your body. When I said it felt like I was sleeping on a cloud — I meant it! Compared to the brand’s other two models of mattresses, this mattress is much softer and has a true medium-soft feel. This bed did a great job at contouring to lower lumbar region and pressure points like hips and shoulders. It has a memory foam feel but with a nice bounce and spring thanks to its 7-Zone edge-to-edge support coils.
Like many online mattress retailers, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is a bed-in-a-box that will arrive at your door compressed in a box. I suggest you grab a friend, partner or family member to help you unbox this bed as it is rather substantial in height and weight. We also recommend that you wait a day or two for the bed to fully expand and release any off-gassing or chemical smells.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Video Review
If you want a closer look at how this mattress looks and feels, I suggest you check out my video on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite before you read my full review below. You will be able to see its materials up close and how it performed during our tests.
Overall, I rated this mattress at a 4.8 out of 5, and you can see my individual scores for all of our testing categories at the end of the video.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Sleepopolis Score
As you can see, the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress scored fantastic overall in the majority of our tests. However, the Emma Hybrid Comfort scored the lowest in the mattress warranty category. Even though most experts say a quality mattress should last you up to a decade, a good mattress warranty is crucial for customers as it protects them from defects and damages upon delivery. Additionally, it’s that extra layer of reassurance that the company is confident with their product’s durability.
If you are looking for a mattress with a longer warranty, I suggest you check out our roundup of the best mattresses that won’t sag. These mattresses are some of the most durable mattresses on the market with quite a few of them having impressive lifetime warranties.
What Is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Made Of?
The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is a 14-inch tall hybrid, bed-in-a-box mattress that combines several layers of memory and graphite-infused foams to provide much-needed pressure relief as well as 7-Zone edge-to-edge pocket springs to support the body.
Let’s go ahead and take a look at the materials used in the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite’s construction.
Cover – The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite comes with a breathable UltraDry cover that is plush and soft-to-the-touch. The quilted design is moisture-wicking and incredibly cool-to-the-touch so it promotes temperature regulation. The cover is completely removable from the mattress, making it easy to clean.
Comfort Layer – Under the cover of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite, lies a 3-inch layer of memory and graphite-infused foam that allows for slow sinkage, support, and pressure relief. Emma’s signature and patented Thermosync and Point Elastic Airgocell foam are designed to absorb body heat and be temperature-regulating, evenly distributes pressure and offer immediate relief, and isolates motion at the source.
Transition Layer – Next up is a durable layer of HRX foam, which is high-density foam. It keeps the sleepers’ body lifted and supported without allowing their body to sink deep into the coil layer underneath. This layer bridges the gap between the memory foam above and the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is made with an ergonomic, 7-Zone edge-to-edge system of coils designed to promote airflow to help keep the mattress cool and focuses on supporting and contouring to the sleepers’ body. The pocketed coils help the bed be bouncy and responsive, making it easy to move around on this mattress.
Foundation Layer – The final layer of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress is constructed with stabilizing base foam to provide structure and a strong foundation to the mattress.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Firmness
Now let’s talk about the firmness and feel of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress. Not every mattress is going to pair well with every body type and sleep style. Some sleepers need a plusher mattress that offers more cushion around sensitive joints like the shoulders and hips. Whereas, back and stomach sleepers usually do better with a firmer mattress that offers support to the lower lumbar region and keeps their backs supported.
At Sleepopolis, we rank mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the industry standard rating for medium-firm, which is the most common mattress firmness. I do want readers to keep in mind that firmness can be a pretty subjective measurement and various factors including body type, weight, and preferred sleeping position may play a factor in how firm a mattress feels to you individually.
To determine the firmness level, I lie on the mattress in different sleeping positions. If possible, I also try to grab a few of my colleagues so we can see how well the mattress feels with different body types. Then, we compare it to the hundreds of other beds we’ve tested and give it a ranking on the Sleepopolis firmness scale.
After testing out the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite, I decided to rank it as 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is a tad softer than the medium-firm average ranking for a bed. This bed is actually the plushest mattress the brand offers as the Emma Original and Emma Hybrid Comfort both rated rather firm on our firmness scale.
When I first laid on the bed, the first thing I noticed was how cushiony and cool-to-the-touch the top layer is. My hips did sink in just a tad, however, this bed did a great job of supporting my back and lumbar spine, which is ideal for sleepers with back pain like myself. The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite did an excellent job of keeping my body lifted while offering pressure relief at the same time as I got immediate pressure relief around my shoulders and hips when resting on this bed.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
With the firmness and feel of this mattress in mind, let’s talk about how sleepers of different weights may feel on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress in each sleeping position.
We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type and their sleeping preference of choice. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Here’s my thoughts on how each group of people will feel on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite.
Is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress could be a great pick for light back sleepers. Lightweight sleepers are going to feel like a bed may be more firm than compared to average-to-heavier sleepers, so this bed should probably feel medium-firm to these sleepers. I think these sleepers will feel well-supported for spinal alignment during sleep, but should still get some pressure relief in the lumbar area from the foam.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite should work for most strict side sleepers as it’s plush enough and contours to their hips and shoulders.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – This mattress should work well for light stomach sleepers. The bed’s firmness should help them feel supported and keep their hips lifted up, so they’re not as likely to sink into the foam.
Is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is a great option for average weight back sleepers. The bed offers plenty of support to the body to aid with spinal alignment, while still feeling soft and cloud-like at the same time. As a back sleeper who falls into this category, I felt incredibly comfortable on this mattress. My body felt supported and I felt overall good pressure relief around my lower lumbar region.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – Most average weight side sleepers should feel incredibly comfortable on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite. This mattress is plush enough to contours to these sleepers’ joints, like shoulders and hips, while offering good pressure relief at the same time.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think that most average weight stomach sleepers would enjoy the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite. When laying on the mattress for some time, my body didn’t sink into the bed and I felt lifted and supported the entire time. I felt like this bed offered a good blend of comfort and support.
Is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite to heavy back sleepers, as this mattress is too soft and probably won’t offer much spinal support for these sleepers. Even though this bed is plush, the top foam layers are thin, so heavy folks may sink right into the coil layer, which could cause pain in the lower lumbar area.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – I think that the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress could be a good match for heavy side sleepers, as they will get that needed cushion and pressure relief around their shoulders and hips.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Similar to the heavy back sleepers, I don’t think the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite will be the best fit for heavy stomach sleepers as they may need a mattress that can offer more support for their lower back and hips.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Performance
It’s one thing to feel the mattress, but it is completely another factor to see how your body will react to the mattress. Mattresses are not one size fits all. Not every bed is going to work for every person depending on their sleep style.
We also run tests on performance factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and edge support. Below, I’ll go over the results from my tests on the Emma Hybrid Comfort Elite mattress to showcase how well this bed performs and I suggest you consider these factors when shopping for a new mattress.
Motion Transfer
Couples who share a bed with a significant other or sleepers who love to cuddle with their pet need a mattress that isolates motion transfer. Motion transfer is the amount of movement that travels through the mattress when it’s touched or disturbed. This is important so couples aren’t woken up in the middle night due to their partner’s every toss and turn.
We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests.
Human Test
The first test is quite simple: we just lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. I initially wore an eye mask while a colleague of mine came in and out of the bed. Even though I did feel my coworker initially get in and out of the bed, I didn’t feel him move around or switch sleeping positions. When my colleague put the sleeping mask on and I tested the motion transfer, he said that he couldn’t feel me move around at all and that his side wasn’t impacted at all by my movement.
Water Test
We also place a full water glass on the mattress, and see how much the water moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see. After placing the water on one side of the bed, I moved to the other side of the bed and tested getting in and out of the mattress. There was barely any movement in the glass when I got in the bed and moved around on the mattress, showing this bed did a good job at isolating motion at the source.
Seismometer Test
Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer. As you’ll see in the graphic below, each height is meant to mimic a different movement you might feel in bed.
Overally, these are pretty great motion-transfer results, especially for a hybrid mattress with coil layers. Thanks to the top layer of foam, this mattress does a great job of isolating motion at the source. You can tell from the results that the biggest movement occurred when my colleague or I were getting in and out of the bed, but movement barely carried when we were actually moving physically on the mattress or switching between sleeping positions.
After all of my tests, I ended up giving the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress a perfect score for motion isolation. This bed is fantastic for couples with restless partners, as well as people who like to sleep with their favorite furry friends.
Responsiveness
We like to test each mattress’s responsiveness by pressing down on its top layer, removing our hand, and seeing how quickly the surface returns to its original shape. Most people tend to do this at home as well and don’t realize they are actually testing their mattress’ responsiveness.
Memory foam mattresses usually have a low response to pressure, thanks to their slow-moving foams, whereas hybrid mattresses with coils (such as the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite) tend to have a high response to pressure. Responsive mattresses are usually good for sex since they make it easy to change positions and move around. These traits also make them good for combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night.
I tested the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite’s responsiveness by moving around on the mattress and changing between different sleeping positions. The mattress is incredibly bouncy and was very easy for me to change sleeping positions and to move freely on top of this mattress. At one point — it felt like I was on a trampoline. I gave this bed a perfect score for responsiveness so this bed is an excellent pick for combination sleepers as well as couples!
Cooling
Many people are hot sleepers — it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. If you are a hot sleeper, there are several factors that you should consider when looking at whether or not a mattress will trap body heat.
First and foremost, we look at the mattress’ construction. Since the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is made with an edge-to-edge coil system, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through the mattress and keep it cool. This bed is also made with other additional cooling properties like the brand’s Thermosync graphite-infused foam that regulates the bodies’ temperature as well as their patented Point Elastic Airgocell foam that absorbs and releases excess body heat and moisture.
This bed is made with a cooling cover which is very cool-to-the-touch. This cover is definitely one of the more “coldest” cooling covers I’ve tested so this is an excellent pick for hot sleepers.
We also test out each mattress with a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when we lie down on it. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
After five minutes of lying on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite, it increased less than 5 degrees, which indicates amazing temperature regulation. That said, I feel that the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is one of the best cooling mattresses I’ve tested.
Keep in mind that several outside factors can affect cooling, including the temperature of your bedroom, how close your bed is to an air vent or window, and your body’s own temperature, which can vary from person to person. However, I would definitely recommend this bed to any hot sleeper in the market for a new mattress that focuses specifically on cooling.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of the bed bears weight. Ideally, you want to be able to sit or lie along the edge of the mattress without feeling like the bed is going to collapse underneath you. This is appealing for couples who like to spread out, heavier people who want to avoid premature sagging, people with mobility issues who need extra support when getting in and out of bed, or anyone who loves to use the entire surface of their bed.
The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite uses durable HRX foam and a stabilizing layer that provides a strong sturdy foundation to the mattress. The result is pretty strong edge support. When sitting on the side of the mattress, I felt very supported here except the cooling cover is a tad slippery so I did feel like I may slip off at times, however, most sleepers shouldn’t have this issue when they put sheets on the mattress. I felt even more comfortable and supportive when lying on the edge of the mattress.
I personally like to test the corner of the mattress as well during this test because I know many people use the corner to get in and out of the bed or even rest on it when tying their shoes. There was a decent amount of sinkage when sitting on the corner, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. And when I measured the sinkage with a yardstick, the layers sank about three inches which isn’t a terrible result. Even though there was slight sinkage, I was still impressed by the edge support on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress Performance For Couples
When looking to share a bed together, couples need to consider a variety of factors to determine whether or not a mattress is durable enough for more than one sleeper. To determine whether a mattress is a good choice for couples, we look at four performance factors: motion isolation, responsiveness for sex, cooling, and edge support.
Based on the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite’s results in these tests, I would say this bed is a great choice for anyone who sleeps with a partner as it scored exceptionally well in all of these areas. This bed is incredibly bouncy and responsive, a plus for sex, while offering strong enough edge support so the pair can maximize the entire surface area of the mattress. Also, the space between its coils leave lots of room for airflow and with the added cooling cover, this mattress stays cool when there’s double the body heat in the bed. This bed also isolates motion well which is unique for a hybrid mattress.

My Final Thoughts about the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress
Finally, we’ve made it to the end of my review of the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite. As you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed testing this mattress and think it could work for a majority of sleepers. But now, you gotta ask yourself: Is The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite the best mattress for me?
Even though my findings are subjective, these are my recommendations of who should and shouldn’t buy the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress.
Who I Recommend the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress For
- If you are an extra hot sleeper then this mattress has your name on it. Thanks to its construction and specific cooling capabilities, I would recommend this bed for all hot sleepers as this bed does an absolutely incredible job at absorbing body heat and keeping the sleeper cool.
- Since this bed is incredibly bouncy, isolates motion quite well, offers pretty good edge support, and shines with its cooling properties, then I’d say this mattress is an excellent option for couples.
- Since the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite is very plush, I would recommend this bed for any strict side sleepers —no matter the weight — as this bed does a good job of contouring to the joints and offers a nice balance of comfort and pressure-relief.
- Even though this bed is plush, it is still supportive enough to keep the body lifted and spine aligned so this mattress is also an excellent choice for most back and stomach light-to-average weight sleepers.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Mattress For
- Most heavy sleepers, people who weigh over 250 pounds, will likely find the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress too soft for back and stomach sleeping as I don’t think this mattress will be supportive enough for these bodies.
- Since this bed is Emma’s most luxurious mattress, it also is the brand’s most expensive bed as well. If you aren’t ballin’ on a budget, I suggest you check out Emma’s original mattress which is their least expensive model. It doesn’t come with as many premium features, but does have a similar make and feel to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite.

Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Policies and FAQs
How is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite shipped?
The brand Emma offers free shipping. The Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress is a bed-in-a-box and will be shipped to you in 1-5 business days and will arrive compressed. I suggest that you should allow 24 to 48 hours for off-gassing once you unwrap your new mattress and so that the mattress has time to fully inflate.
Does the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite come with a sleep trial?
Yes, Emma provides a 365-night sleep trial period with this mattress. That means you can test it out at home for up to a year to decide whether you like it or not. If not, you can return it within that trial period for a full refund. A full year is a comparatively long trial period, which is another good sign that Emma is confident in this mattress.
Does the Hybrid Cooling Elite come with a warranty?
Yes, Emma offers a 10-year warranty on all of their mattresses.
Is the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress worth it?
Since this is the brand’s most luxurious mattress, it does come with premium features like cooling and support technology. This bed scored quite well in all of our tests so I would definitely say this mattress is worth it.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite Vs
With so many different types of mattresses on the market currently, it can be stressful and overwhelming on where to even begin your mattress search. I want to help make your mattress buying experience a breeze so I’ll compare it to a few other hybrid mattresses to see how they stack up to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite vs DreamCloud
The original DreamCloud mattress is the company’s flagship bed that feels incredibly luxurious. The DreamCloud contains similar features to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite such as a cozy cashmere pillow top, cooling gel-infused memory foam, and sturdy coils to support and keep the body lifted. The DreamCloud is not as plush as the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite and has a more firm than average feel — we rated it as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The DreamCloud is slightly cheaper than the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite, by about $500 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: The DreamCloud, with its medium-firm construction, is well-suited for lightweight sleepers, as well as back sleepers of all body types. This bed balances support with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers.
- Cooling: The DreamCloud contains cooling gel infusions in the memory foam layer and breathable coils, so it is a solid choice for hot sleepers who overheat at night.
- Body weight: The DreamCloud is supportive enough for back sleepers of all weights. However, we don’t think DreamCloud is supportive enough for heavy side or stomach sleepers. However, it should be fine for most light-weight sleepers.

Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite vs Helix Midnight Luxe
The Helix Midnight Luxe contains luxury upgrades of Helix’s original mattresses, including a pressure-relieving plush pillow top and zoned support in the coils. The zoned support system offers extra support in the lumbar region, so the body will feel lifted up and keep the spine aligned. The comfort layer and cozy pillow top relieves pressure off of sensitive joints and helps alleviate joint pain. We found this bed to be medium-soft — we rated it as 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Helix Midnight Luxe is priced quite similar to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress and is just a tad cheaper, by less than $100 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: This is a great pick for back and side sleepers as the bed offers immediate relief at the shoulders and hips. The coils also help promote a neutral spinal alignment. This bed is comfortable yet supportive.
- Cooling: Hot sleepers should have no problem staying cool on the Helix Midnight Luxe due to its construction and multiple cooling features.
- Body weight: We didn’t find the Helix Midnight Luxe supportive enough for heavy sleepers, people who weigh 250 pounds or more. I don’t think these sleepers will get the support they need, however, Helix has a mattress specifically designed for heavier bodies.

Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite vs Titan Plus
Brooklyn Bedding’s Titan Plus is a durable mattress featuring heavy-duty support coils, making it a great option for heavier sleepers. This mattress also has a Titanflex foam comfort layer, which provides nice lift and bounce for heavier weights. This mattress also comes with an optional cooling cover to aid hot sleepers. People who weigh over 250 pounds need sufficient pressure relief and this bed contains two inches of a latex alternative foam that is responsive enough to help keep the body lifted and in proper alignment. This bed is significantly firmer than average — we rated it as 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Titan Plus is cheaper than the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress, by about $600 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: This is a great pick for back and stomach sleepers who love a firm mattress. This bed offers a good blend of comfort and support while keeping the spine in a neutral alignment.
- Cooling: This mattress isn’t made with any specific cooling properties, however, you can add a cooling cover for an additional fee.
- Body weight: Just because this bed was designed specifically for heavier sleepers, this bed can still be a good option for average-weight sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress.

Shante, Brooklyn Bedding customerOther Models from Emma
Keep reading below to compare how this model holds up against the two other beds that Emma offers: the Emma Original and the Emma Hybrid Comfort.
Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite vs Emma Original
The Emma Original is the only mattress that is made entirely of all-foam, whereas the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite and Hybrid Comfort both are made with a mix of coils and foam. Not only is the Emma Original the brand’s flagship mattress, but it’s also the brand’s most affordable bed as well mattress. Even though the Emma Original is made with all-foam, it’s quite firm and not plush at all, which is why I gave it a 7 out of 10, meaning it’s firmer than average.
- Price: The Emma Original is the brand’s least expensive mattress and is cheaper than the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite by about $700 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: The Emma Original is a great choice for back and stomach sleepers. Although this is an all-foam mattress, it provides the right combination of comfort and support that these folks need. The dense layers of foam in the construction give it the firmness that it needs to keep these sleepers’ hips in line with their shoulders, promoting a healthy spinal alignment. This bed could also be a decent pick for combination sleepers due to its responsiveness.
- Cooling: The Emma Original is made with a breathable cover and Airgocell poly foam with an open-cell structure in its comfort layer to promote airflow and regulate your temperature. Even though it sleeps cooler than many memory foam mattresses, it’s still going to be hotter than an innerspring or hybrid mattress.
- Body weight: This bed should work for most light-to-average weight back and stomach sleepers, however sleepers who weigh over 250 pounds probably won’t get the support they need for this body since this bed is quite thin and made of all-foam, so less durable than hybrid or innerspring mattresses.

Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite vs Emma Hybrid Comfort
The Emma Hybrid Comfort, is the brand’s most popular bed, and is made with more cooling and pressure relieving abilities than the flagship Emma Original mattress. The 13-inch Emma Hybrid Comfort contains a combination of cooling foam layers and ergonomic pocketed springs, providing sleepers a blend of comfort and support. The Emma Hybrid Comfort is a firm, supportive, and bouncy mattress. What’s unique about this mattress is that it is significantly firmer than average — which I was surprised by since it is a hybrid bed — and we rated it as 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Emma Hybrid Comfort is cheaper than the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress, by about $500 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: This mattress could be a decent option for most back and stomach sleepers as it will help keep their back and hips properly aligned with their spine, promoting a neutral spine alignment. This bed is also firm enough to keep these sleepers’ hips lifted the entire night without feeling like they are sinking into the mattress. However, this bed is incredibly too firm for any strict side sleepers.
- Cooling: Since the Emma Hybrid Comfort has a layer of coils, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through the mattress and keep it cool. Further temperature regulation comes from the open-celled, gel infusion in the foam, a decent option for hot sleepers.
- Body weight: This mattress could work for most light, average, and heavyweight back and stomach sleepers, who prefer a firmer mattress.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
