Nectar is known for its popular line of all-foam, pressure-relieving mattresses, but now the company is bringing coils into their bedding game. The Nectar Classic Hybrid is similar to their flagship product, the Nectar Classic, but the hybrid bed has pocketed support coils to add support and airflow for sleepers.
Keep reading for my full Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress review, where I’ll examine the bed’s construction, firmness level, motion control, and more! Later on, I’ll compare it to the original Nectar mattresses and to some of its main competitors.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Overview
Unlike the Nectar Classic, the Nectar Classic Hybrid uses a combination of pressure-relieving memory foam with 8-inch individually wrapped coils that provide additional support and airflow. This mattress has excellent motion isolation, edge support, and cooling components that make it a great choice for couples.
Like most online mattresses or bed-in-a-box mattresses, the Nectar Classic Hybrid has a 24- to 48-hour off-gassing period. During this time, your mattress will fully decompress and release any trapped gasses in its foams. This may cause your mattress to release a slight odor, but it’s nothing to be concerned about. If you’re worried about the off-gassing smell, place your new mattress in a well-ventilated room and avoid adding sheets for a day or so.
Nectar is one of the most popular bed-in-a-box mattress brands on the market. For more information about the brand, check out our interview with Nectar’s founder, Craig Schmeizer.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Sleepopolis Score
What Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Made of?
A hybrid mattress uses a combination of foam and springs to provide both comfort and support. This mattress has five layers, each designed to target different mattress concerns, such as pressure relief and motion isolation.

Cover – The Nectar Classic Hybrid’s cover is a quilted cool-to-the-touch cover with antimicrobial protection, which aims to keep sleepers cool while preventing bacteria growth. My first impression when testing the Nectar Classic Hybrid was that the cover layer was lightweight and breathable. While I didn’t feel it was as cool-to-the-touch as other mattresses that make the same claim, I thought the cover did a good enough job of keeping things airy and cool.
Comfort Layer – Next up is 1 inch of therapeutic memory foam for extra pressure relief. So far, many of the Nectar mattresses I’ve tested are great for relieving back pain and pressure, and the Classic Hybrid is no exception. While testing this mattress on my back, I felt that it was supportive, plush, and comfortable. However, I don’t think this mattress offers enough contouring and cushioning for strict side sleepers.
Transition Layer – Up next is the 3-inch dynamic response layer. This layer is supposed to help sleepers get back support and promote proper spine alignment. Proper spine alignment is a bigger concern for back and stomach sleepers. These sleepers need something with enough support to keep their spines in a neutral position throughout the night, and I think the Classic Hybrid does just that. Personally, I felt most comfortable on this mattress on my back and stomach.
Base Layer — The support layer is 8 inches of individually wrapped coils with edge support. These bring support and durability to the mattress while promoting airflow throughout the bed. Although the Nectar Classic Hybrid doesn’t have any over-the-top cooling features, I think the individually wrapped coils and breathable soft layer should keep things cool enough for most sleepers.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Firmness
Before we get started, I want to point out that firmness is subjective. A mattress will feel firmer or softer to different sleepers depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position. To get an accurate idea of how firm the Nectar Classic Hybrid feels, I polled a range of coworkers and averaged our scores and firmness levels together.

The industry standard for medium firmness is a 6.5 out of 10. The Nectar Classic Hybrid initially felt a little firmer to me when I laid down, but I then felt some softness as I sank into the top foam layer. I ultimately gave this mattress a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, so it’s right there at being medium-firm.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Let’s go over how the Nectar Classic Hybrid performs for different kinds of sleepers.
Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers should be really happy on the Nectar Classic Hybrid. They’ll get both spinal support and pressure relief at the lower back.
- Light Side Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic Hybrid will feel too firm to these sleepers. I’d recommend they check out our favorite soft mattress instead.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic Hybrid would be a good choice for these sleepers, as it should feel firm enough to keep their hips propped up and spine aligned.

Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – I think this hybrid is a home run for these sleepers. They should have the ideal combination of comfort and support. As someone who falls into this category, I thought this mattress was the perfect firmness. I felt lifted and “on top” of this bed, and my spine stayed aligned even after sinking a little bit into the memory foam.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic Hybrid could work for a lot of these sleepers. However, some strict side sleepers or those with joint pain may want to check out a softer option instead for more contouring.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The Nectar Classic Hybrid is likely not going to be firm enough for these sleepers, especially if it’s their only sleeping position utilized. I’d check out a firmer bed for more support, which you can find on our recommendations for the best mattress for stomach sleepers.

Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think the coils in the Nectar Classic Hybrid bring support for these sleepers and the top foam layers should allow them to be comfortable.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Some of these sleepers may be happy on this bed, but they could also sink through the top foam layers too much. Take a look at our favorite mattresses for heavy people for more choices.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – While I think the Nectar Classic Hybrid could offer enough support for these sleepers, I think they might be better off choosing a firmer bed. A firmer mattress will help these sleepers’ spines stay in a healthy position overnight.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Performance
A big part of Sleepopolis is our testing lab where our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches can run a series of tests on each mattress we review. Our methodology helps us gain an objective view of what it would be like to sleep on them. These tests allow us to make specific recommendations for individual sleepers in addition to their sleeping position and body type. Below, you’ll find how the Nectar Classic Hybrid performs in areas like pain relief, motion transfer, cooling, and more.
Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Pain Relief Performance
When we discuss pain relief, we mean how a bed feels against key pressure points on your body in a variety of sleeping positions. How well a bed alleviates pressure at the shoulders and hips is important for every sleeper to consider. It’s especially important if you struggle with pain, as a mattress with good pressure relief can help prevent soreness and stiffness.
I measured the pressure relief on the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress by using a test called a pressure map. We rolled a specialized mat across the Nectar Classic Hybrid and moved into different sleeping positions. The mat records the pressure points the mattress created and provides a thermal imaging graphic to display the results. Blue to green areas indicate low pressure while orange to red areas show high pressure. We cover three different areas: back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
Before looking at the pain relief performance results, remember that your sleeping position will largely determine if a mattress causes or alleviates pain. For example, very firm mattresses are not recommended for side sleepers because they aren’t soft enough to cradle the pressure points at your hips and shoulders.

As you can see on the graph above, the Nectar Classic Hybrid performed well when I was sleeping on my back, which indicates it could be a great choice for back sleepers with back pain. The pressure map also shows no pressure around my shoulders while back sleeping and minimal pressure around my hips and joints while side sleeping.
However, stomach sleepers with back or shoulder pain will likely want a firmer mattress to ensure their spines stay aligned. There was almost no pressure around the hips when back sleeping, however, some pressure did start to build while side sleeping, so side sleepers with hip pain may do better with a softer mattress.
Overall, I think this mattress should work for most sleepers aside from those with sensitive joints.
Motion Transfer
If you sleep with a partner or pet, you may be familiar with interrupted sleep due to motion from the other side of the bed. Motion transfer is the amount of movement you’ll likely detect from one side of the bed to the other. Unless you sleep alone, you’ll want a bed that doesn’t transfer a lot of movement, or has good motion isolation so you can sleep soundly. We use a few different tests to determine our motion transfer score.
Human Test
My first test is simple: I lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. While the Nectar Classic Hybrid doesn’t have the worst motion isolation, we could still feel each other get in and out of bed and switch between different sleeping positions.
I don’t think this will be an issue for most couples; however, if your partner wakes up easily or you have a restless pet that likes to toss and turn throughout the night, you might prefer a memory foam mattress with better motion isolation.
Water Test
Next, I placed a full glass of water onto the mattress and again, rolled around. The liquid in the glass was barely disturbed, which means the mattress has low motion transfer.

Seismometer Test
Lastly, I performed our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10-pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches and measuring the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.

These are good motion transfer results. As you can see, there is a lot of motion upon impact, but it doesn’t travel much to the other side of the mattress. I’d say you won’t feel too disturbed by a partner tossing and turning, but might feel them getting in and out of bed.
Responsiveness
A mattress’s responsiveness can be tested by pressing down on its top layer, removing our hand, and examining how quickly the surface returns to its original shape. You may have guessed that memory foam has a low response to pressure, as it is designed to be slow moving. Hybrid mattresses with coils, like the Nectar Classic Hybrid, usually have a high response to pressure. A responsive mattress is usually ideal for sex since it makes it easy to move around without getting trapped in the bed. These same traits are also great for combination sleepers who switch between multiple sleeping positions at night.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is very responsive and bouncy. I found it super easy to roll around and change between different sleeping positions despite the layer of plush foam on the surface. I think this bed is a great mattress for combination sleepers who frequently toss and turn at night to change their sleeping position.
I also think this mattress is a solid choice for couples, as it was so bouncy that I could touch the ceiling while jumping on it. In other words, this could be a good bed for sex.
Cooling
There are a few different factors that can contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability. The biggest indicator is the mattress’s construction. This Nectar Hybrid mattress includes a cooling cover and coils. These are all materials that promote airflow, so this bed should sleep nice and cool. However, several factors can affect how hot a mattress gets, such as the temperature of the bedroom, your body temperature, and the bed’s proximity to a vent or window.

As you can see, the Nectar only heated up 5.8 degrees, indicating good cooling.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether you can sleep all the way on the edge of the bed without feeling the side of the mattress collapsing under your weight. Good edge support is nice if you like to sit on the edge of the bed. When there’s excellent edge support, you can spread out over the entire surface of the mattress, which can make it feel a little bigger. Edge support can also be a good measure of a mattress’ durability and whether it may sag over time.

I think the Nectar Classic Hybrid has excellent edge support overall. I only felt it sink in slightly when sitting and laying on the edge of the mattress, and I never felt like I was sliding off. It also had strong corners, meaning this bed is great for folks with mobility issues who need to bear down on the mattress when getting out of bed. The Nectar Classic Hybrid also only sank 1 inch when I measured the sinkage while sitting on it, which is outstanding.

Overall, the Classic Hybrid from Nectar is a solid choice for individuals with mobility issues and couples who like to use the entire surface area of their mattress.
Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples
Based on how the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress performed on the above tests, I think this mattress could be a good fit for couples. With good motion isolation and low motion transfer, you shouldn’t be too disrupted by movement coming from your partner’s side of the bed. Two sleepers radiate more heat than one sleeper, but the cooling properties within the construction of the Nectar Hybrid can help you both stay cool all night. The edge support from this mattress also allows you and your partner to really spread out, so you shouldn’t feel too cramped.

My Final Thoughts about the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress
Before I wrap up this review entirely, let’s go over the ideal candidates for this mattress, and who may be better off with a different choice.

Who I recommend the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress For
- Back sleepers should be thrilled by the combination of pressure relief and support the Nectar Classic Hybrid offers.
- Couples should appreciate the Nectar Classic Hybrid’s edge support, cooling capabilities, and ability to isolate motion.
- This is a medium-firm bed, which can be great for some side sleepers. However, those with hip or shoulder pain may need a softer mattress with more contouring and should check out our favorite mattresses for side sleepers for more options.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress For
- Strict stomach sleepers weighing over 130 pounds will likely find the Nectar to be too soft. I’d point them towards one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers instead, so they can maintain healthy sleep posture.
- Those looking for an all-foam mattress may prefer the flagship Nectar or other memory foam mattress options since this mattress does have coils.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
