For the past few years, smart wearable devices have been dominating the health and wellness space. The desire for specific and actionable insights into one’s health is strong, and these products aim to provide that data to users. At first, smart watches were dominating the scene, with brands like Garmin, Apple and Samsung all creating solid options for those who wanted to level up their watch experience. However, the smart-device craze is all about the smart ring these days.
Right now, the smart ring market isn’t as crowded as the smartwatch market is. There are only a few major competitors, the most popular of those being the Oura Ring. The goal with these rings is to be a subtle accessory that can provide some pretty detailed data about your general health, insights about your sleep, and more.
Now, Samsung is officially entering the smart ring game. The tech giant announced the Galaxy Ring back in January, and the ring has officially launched at the 2024 Galaxy Unpacked Event. You can preorder on Samsung’s website, and the ring will set you back around $400. Samsung did not immediately respond to Sleepopolis’s request for comment.
The ring comes in three color-ways Titanium Silver, Titanium Gold, and Titanium Black. If you don’t know your ring size, you’ll have to size the ring on your own with Samsung’s free ring sizing kit, but if you know your size you’ll be good to go ahead and order your ring. The ring will officially be available on July 24th.
What Features Does Samsung’s Galaxy Ring Have?
The ring features three sensors, and is integrated with Samsung’s Galaxy AI. One sensor measures your heart rate and heart health, one is an infrared sensor that can measure your temperature while you sleep, and one is an accelerometer which can measure your walking and running.
The Galaxy Ring also boasts some impressive features targeted at your sleep. The ring will generate a sleep score for you, track your snoring, track the stage of sleep you are in throughout the night, and monitor your heart rate throughout the night. The Samsung Health app will also give you suggestions on how to improve your sleep based on the data that it collects during the night.
The insights your ring collects will be found in your Samsung Health app where you can see the insights about your sleep and health. You’ll also receive your “Energy Score” which is calculated based on your sleep, heart rate, and steps.
What Are Smart Rings?
Smart rings are rings that are designed to collect data about your health and wellness while you are exercising, sleeping, or simply just living. Usually, these rings will have a companion app that will synthesize the data to give you insights about what’s going on with your body. Typically, these rings will generate some sort of score to assess your sleep or general wellness.
Difference Between The Galaxy Ring to the Oura Ring?
At a first glance, there isn’t a substantial difference between the Oura Ring and the Samsung Galaxy Ring. Both provide scores for your sleep and general wellness, and provide tracking data for your exercise and sleep. The Oura Ring seems to emphasize its mindfulness features more than Samsung does.
Additionally, Oura has a monthly subscription program that you must purchase to gain all of the insights from your ring. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring doesn’t come with a subscription program, and features more integration with the Samsung smart phone family, with features like the ability to control your phone from your Oura Ring.
