Is the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Right For You?

Before we dive into the product details, here’s a quick overview of who I think should try the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier and who should consider a different humidifier.

P1056466

Who Should Try the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

  • If you want a humidifier that’s easy to clean, you’ll appreciate that this humidifier is filter-free and requires simple maintenance.
  • If you want control over the mist output, you should like this humidifier’s directional mist outlet and variable output levels.
  • If you love all things colorful, you will love that this humidifier comes in fun color options, like orange, green, pink, blue, and more.

Who Shouldn’t Try the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

  • If you want a humidifier that doubles as a diffuser, this won’t be a good fit. The Crane Drop is not designed to be used with essential oils.
  • If you want a humidifier with a nightlight, this also won’t be a good match, as it does not have any night light features.
  • If you have a small room, this humidifier may not be the best fit. It can hold one gallon of water and cover up to 500 square feet, making it easy to over-humidify your room. If you do have a smaller room, I’d recommend running this humidifier on a lower level to prevent over-humidification.

Key Features of the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier.

At the top of the humidifier is the detachable 360 degree mist lid. This cone-shaped lid is where the mist is emitted and it can be turned 360 degrees to control the direction the mist flows in. The lid rests on top of the tank, which has a one-gallon capacity. The tank has a carrying handle to ensure an easy grip while carrying it to a sink to fill up. On the bottom of the tank is the water tank cap, which can be unscrewed to fill the tank with water.

P1056473

The water tank rests on the base of the humidifier, which has a detachable cord and a variable control knob, which allows you to turn on the humidifier and choose your level of mist output. On the inside of the base is the water level sensor and nebulizer, which breaks the water into tiny droplets to be emitted as mist.

The Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier has a run time of 24 hours when full and covers up to 500 square feet. It also has an auto-shut off feature to turn the humidifier off when it is out of water.

P1056468

It is also available in multiple colors: white, orange, blue and white, clear and white, green, pink, aqua, and gray. The humidifier I tested was the blue and white color.

How To Use The Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

Now that we are familiar with the key features of this humidifier, let’s go over how to use it. Be sure before using any humidifier that you read through the instructions and safety information to be properly prepared.

Setting up the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

  1. Place the humidifier on a non-metallic, waterproof, and level surface at least two feet above the floor.
  2. Remove the mist lid and remove the water tank from the base. Unscrew the water tank cap and fill the tank with cool water.
  3. Screw the tank cap back onto the water tank and place the tank back onto the base.

  5. If you want to change the direction of the mist, twist the mist lid in your desired direction.

Cleaning the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

Maintenance is an important facet of owning any humidifier. To preserve the air quality in your bedroom, you want to ensure there isn’t any mold or bacteria in your humidifier. Crane recommends a daily maintenance process and weekly maintenance process for this humidifier.

For daily maintenance:

  1. Turn off your humidifier, unplug it, and empty any excess water from the tank and base.
  2. Allow the tank and base to air dry, leaving the cap off the tank until next use.

For weekly maintenance:

  1. Turn off your humidifier, unplug it, and empty any excess water from the tank and base.
  2. Fill the water tank halfway with warm water.
  3. Add two tablespoons of white vinegar.
  4. With the tank cap screwed on, shake the tank vigorously and then allow it to sit for 30 minutes.
  5. Empty the tank and rinse with plain water.
  6. Fill the base with warm water, adding one tablespoon of white vinegar.
  7. Let the solution sit in the base for 30 minutes.
  8. Then, empty the base and rinse with plain water. Be sure to pour water away from the fan outlet on the back of the base while emptying.
  9. Clean the nebulizer with a damp cloth or cotton swab to remove any mineral buildup.
  10. Allow the tank and base to air dry, leaving the cap off the tank, until next use.

Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Price

Wondering how much this humidifier costs? It currently costs $54.99 on Amazon. Prices for humidifiers can range widely, from as low as $20 to the hundreds, so I would say this is a pretty good price.

My Final Thoughts About the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

After testing it out, I can confidently say I really like the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier. I’m a big fan of the other Crane humidifier I’ve tested, the Crane Top Fill Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier, so I was happy to find this one to be a great humidifier as well.

I appreciate that this humidifier has a directional mist lid, allowing you to control the direction of the mist, as well as a variable control knob, allowing you to choose between multiple humidity levels. I like that the Crane Drop has a one-gallon tank and the humidifier runs for 24 hours when full, with an automatic shutoff feature to stop running when empty. It covers up to 500 square feet, so this is a good option for people with large rooms.

P1056557

It’s also filter-free, which is a big plus to me when it comes to maintenance. And the overall maintenance for keeping this humidifier clean is fairly simple.

However, compared to some other humidifiers in a similar price range, the Crane Drop doesn’t have many bells and whistles. You can’t add essential oils to use the humidifier as an aromatherapy diffuser. It also doesn’t have any nightlight features — which can be a pro for sleepers distracted by light, but I appreciate humidifiers with a nightlight that can be turned on or off.

But it does come in a variety of fun colors, which is not a common option among humidifiers!

Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Policies and FAQs

How does the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier ship?

This humidifier is eligible for free shipping on Amazon.

Does the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier come with a warranty?

Yes, Crane offers a 1-year limited warranty on this humidifier.

Can I return the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier?

This item is non-returnable on Amazon, but can be refunded or returned if it is defective when you receive it.

Does the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier contain BPA or phthalate in the plastic?

No, this product is free from bisphenol A (BPA), phthalate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), styrene-acrylonitrile resin (SAN), and polypropylene (PP), all of which have been linked to negative health outcomes. You can rest easy knowing the moisture from this humidifier won’t leach any possibly dangerous chemicals from the plastic.

What kind of water should I use with the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier?

You should use only cool water with this humidifier. You can use either tap water or distilled water. If you use tap water, you will likely see more mineral buildup in your humidifier, particularly if you live in an area with hard water. Hard water can also lead to white dust collecting nearby the humidifier, which is the minerals left behind when the mist evaporates.

How do I prevent white dust from collecting near my humidifier?

White dust near your humidifier is mineral deposits left behind when the mist evaporates. You can prevent this with distilled water or adding Crane’s Demineralization Filter, which costs $12.99 and has to be replaced every one to two months.

How does a humidifier work?

Humidifiers increase the humidity level, or amount of moisture in the air, which is helpful if you are sleeping in a room with dry air. Dry air can dry out your skin and mucous membranes, such as your mouth, nose, and throat. That’s why you may wake up with dry skin or a dry throat after sleeping in a room with dry air. Humidifiers prevent that by adding more moisture. They can also be helpful for soothing flu symptoms, nasal congestion, sinus issues, nosebleeds, or any other symptoms worsened by dryness. Read our guide on how humidifiers work to learn more.
