Is the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier Right For You?
Before we get into all the details, here are my quick recommendations for who should try the Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier and who should consider trying another humidifier.
Who Should Try the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
- If you’re a light sleeper, you’ll likely appreciate this humidifier’s quiet operation and lack of bright lights.
- If you want to ensure the mist from your humidifier is ultra-clean, you should appreciate this humidifier’s filter and UV light keeping the moisture clean for better air quality.
- If easy cleaning is important to you, you’ll be glad to know the tray and tank of this humidifier are dishwasher-safe.
Who Shouldn’t Try the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
- If you prefer a low-maintenance humidifier, you might be frustrated by repurchasing and replacing the humidifier filter.
- If you have a smaller room size, this humidifier might not be a good choice. It is designed for medium-size rooms and the humidifier itself is quite large.
- If you like to see the mist coming from your humidifier, you might not like that this humidifier produces invisible mist.
Key Features of the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
Let’s take a closer look at the key features of this humidifier.
The Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier has a 1.1 gallon tank with a wide opening to make it easier to fill. It also has a carrying handle. I personally found this tank easy to both carry and fill up.
The water tank is contained within the upper enclosure of the humidifier. On top of the upper enclosure is the vent, where the mist is emitted, and the control knob, which allows you to choose between three settings of varying intensities of mist. The upper enclosure also contains the fan, which blows the mist into the air, and a UV light, which sanitizes the water.
If you remove the tank and upper enclosure, you’ll see the tray where the filter is stored. The humidifier comes with one filter already pre-loaded, which should be replaced every 30 to 60 days. The filter captures minerals from the water and prevents buildup. Honeywell also says it’s designed for optimal moisture output while preventing mold growth.
The Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier is designed for medium-sized rooms and can run for 24 hours on the lowest setting. Additionally, the water tank and water tray are top rack dishwasher safe.
How To Use The Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
Now that you know the key features of this humidifier, let’s go over how to use it. Before using any humidifier, be sure to read through all the instructions and safety information to ensure you are properly prepared.
Setting up the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
- Place the humidifier in your desired location. Choose a level location at least six inches away from the walls or any furniture.
- Remove the tank and lift off the upper enclosure. Remove the filter.
- Take both the tank and the filter to the sink. You’ll want to fill up the tank and wet the filter, but don’t wring or squeeze it.
- Back at the humidifier, replace the filter, put the upper enclosure back on, and replace the tank.
- Plug the humidifier in and choose one of three settings for mist power.
Note that you won’t see any mist coming out of the humidifier once it is turned on, as this humidifier produces invisible moisture. The Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier is an evaporative humidifier, meaning the fan pulls dry air from the room through the wicking filter, which is saturated with water. That moisture then evaporates and is propelled into the room with the fan.
Cleaning the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier
One of the routine aspects of maintenance for the Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier is filter replacement. Honeywell recommends replacing the filter every 30 to 60 days, depending on the quality of water used and how frequently you use the humidifier. You should also replace the filter if it is hard, crusty, brittle, develops an odor, or if the humidifier’s moisture output has decreased. If you live in an area with hard water, you may have to replace the filter more frequently than others.
Honeywell recommends descaling and disinfecting your humidifier on a weekly basis. As I mentioned before, the water tank (not including the cap) and tray are both top-rack dishwasher safe. For disinfecting, you can either opt to use the dishwasher or disinfect with bleach (which I’ll describe below). If you wash them in your dishwasher, do not use detergents and run the dishwasher on a light cycle.
Here are the instructions for descaling:
- Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
- Remove the water tank and empty out extra water.
- Lift off the upper enclosure.
- Remove the filter.
- Wipe down the base, tank cap, and tank with white vinegar.
- Rinse thoroughly.
After descaling, if you don’t wash the tray and tank in the dishwasher, you’ll want to follow these directions to disinfect:
- Fill the water tank with one teaspoon of bleach and one gallon of cool water.
- Wipe the tray with the same solution.
- Rinse both until the smell of bleach is gone.

After testing out the Honeywell Cool Moisture humidifier, I identified several pros and cons about it.
First, the filter. If you are someone who doesn’t mind taking a little extra effort to replace a filter to ensure cleaner moisture is blowing into your room, this humidifier could be great for you. It also has the UV light to sanitize the water for an additional layer of cleanliness.
However, if you’re more like me and hate additional maintenance like replacing a filter, this humidifier might not be the best choice. It’s also important to keep in mind that replacing the filter creates a recurring cost to using the humidifier. But having the dishwasher-safe tank and tray, as well as a fairly simple cleaning process for the humidifier, is a nice counterbalance to the extra effort of filter replacement.
Next, I overall liked the design of this humidifier, as it looks sleek and doesn’t feature any bright, distracting night lights. However, it is quite large and takes up a considerable amount of space, especially considering it is only designed to be used in a medium room.
I appreciated the ability to choose between three speed settings for different humidity levels. And on the lowest level, the humidifier was ultra-quiet, which is a big pro for light sleepers who are easily disturbed by noise.
