The Nectar is a memory foam mattress with many traits these beds are famous for, like body contouring and a slow-sinking feel. But it does a decent job in areas like support, where memory foam mattresses often underperform. That’s why the Nectar Classic features 4 inches of therapeutic memory foam and support foam, along with an 8-inch stability base layer for maximum stability.
The new-and-improved Nectar Classic is a fiberglass-free bed-in-a-box that ships compressed in a package to your doorstep. Because of this, you might notice an off-gassing period upon first opening it. This process should finish in one to three days after you unbox it. Nectar Mattress Firmness
When I talk about feel, I like to start with firmness, because it’s likely to give you the best idea of how you’ll experience the mattress.
It’s important to highlight that firmness is subjective, and my opinion might be totally different from yours. To get a better general idea of firmness, I polled a range of folks in the office and we settled on a firmness level rating together.
After lying on Nectar for a while, my colleagues and I decided to give the Nectar a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, putting it right at the industry standard of medium-firm.
In other words, this bed is just a touch firmer than most all-foam beds. Most sleepers will still get a little contouring from the memory foam. However, you will likely feel more “on top” of this mattress than “inside” of the foam. I gave this mattress 5 out of 5 stars for support because it did an excellent job at keeping my body lifted up and out of the structure.
The firmness and support from the memory foam did wonders for my lower back during testing. While I was comfortable on my side, I felt this mattress might be too firm to offer sleepers with sensitive joints and pain the deep body contouring and cushioning they need throughout the night.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic would work for lightweight back sleepers who prefer a firmer memory foam mattress. These sleepers should get good support and pressure relief around their lower lumbar spine, but they likely wouldn’t get any sinkage.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Nectar Classic is too firm for lightweight side sleepers, especially those with sensitive joints. These sleepers will want to look for a softer mattress with deep contouring and added cushioning to relieve pressure and pain in those sensitive areas.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic is a good fit for lightweight stomach sleepers. Lightweight stomach sleepers need something firmer to keep their spines supported and aligned at night, and since they shouldn’t sink into this mattress at all, the Nectar Classic is a solid choice for lightweight sleepers looking for a firm, all-foam bed.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should consider the Nectar Classic, especially if they have back pain. My colleague, who suffers from chronic back pain, noted excellent pressure relief and support in her lower lumbar spine while testing this mattress.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic could work for average side sleepers who prefer a medium-firm bed, but I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to sleepers in this category with joint pain. Strict side sleepers and side sleepers with joint pain will need something softer that offers deep contouring and extra cushioning around their pressure points.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think the Nectar Classic is an excellent choice for average-weight stomach sleepers. As someone who falls into this category, I felt lifted and supported while testing this mattress. I found that the cover and comfort layers did a great job keeping my spine in a neutral position, and I didn’t feel like any part of me sank into the mattress too much, which made it easy for me to get in and out of bed.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think this mattress could work for heavier back sleepers. These sleepers will experience some sinkage, but not too much. However, heavier sleepers with chronic back pain might want to look into a mattress with more cushioning for their lower lumbar spines.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – The Nectar Classic could work for heavier side sleepers with sensitive joints. Since these sleepers will sink into the memory foam more, they will get more contouring and cushioning from this mattress than average or lightweight sleepers, which should ease some pressure and pain.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Heavy stomach sleepers who prefer a memory foam mattress should get enough support from the Nectar Classic to keep their spines in a healthy position. These sleepers might experience more sinkage around their hips, but not enough to make the bed uncomfortable.
Nectar Mattress Performance
As a Certified Sleep Science Coach, a big part of what I do here at Sleepopolis is run a series of tests on each mattress I review. This allows me to make even more specific recommendations in addition to sleeping position and body type. Below, see how the Nectar performs in areas such as pain relief, motion transfer, cooling, and more.
Nectar Mattress Pain Relief Performance
If a mattress is pressure-relieving, it’s cushioning enough to help ease tension (relieve pressure) off of sensitive joints. This is especially important for those with chronic pain issues. In order to accurately measure the level of pressure relief the Nectar is capable of, I put it through our pressure map test. This involves spreading a specialized mat across the surface of the bed. When I lie down on the mat, it records the pressure points created, then shows the results in a graphic or “map” of my body. You’ll see specific pressure areas recorded by color-coded thermal imaging. Low pressure is indicated with the colors blue and green. Moderate pressure is shown with yellow, and high pressure areas are recorded in yellow to red. I cover three different areas: back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
You’ll definitely want to consider your favorite sleeping positions when purchasing a new mattress and assessing its pressure relief. For instance, if you’re a side sleeper, you’re going to want to see lots of green and blue (a little yellow is fine) around the shoulder and hip. These are areas where the most pressure builds. Firmer mattresses are going to cause these areas to jam up and may result in shoulder/hip pain.
Based on the results above, I think the Nectar Classic does a great job of relieving back pain. The map results above show a lot of blue and green on our backs, meaning back sleepers should experience good pressure relief from the Nectar.
Most side sleepers should enjoy this mattress, too. However, I would not recommend this mattress to side sleepers with sensitive joints. While it performed well when we tested it on our sides, we could see some yellow creeping in on our hips and shoulders, which means more pressure around those sensitive areas. Despite the slight pressure building there, I gave the bed an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 stars for pressure relief because it provides slight sinkage that can ease tensions and aches.
Motion Transfer
A mattress with high motion transfer distributes a lot of movement across the mattress surface. If you sleep with a partner or pet on a mattress with high motion transfer, the bed’s inability to fully trap movement may disturb your sleep. What you want is low motion transfer. That way, movement is trapped by the bed’s comfort layers and prevents you from waking up at night. I measure motion transfer in a few different ways that I’ll outline below.
Human Test
First and foremost, I roll around and change between different sleeping positions on the mattress with a colleague and see how much of each other’s movements we can feel. On the Nectar Classic, we could feel each other move around on the bed the entire time. I could feel my colleague roll around on the mattress and get in and out of bed.
Based on this test, I would not recommend this mattress for couples who wake up easily or people with pets who move around frequently at night.
Water Test
The second test involves a full glass of water; I put the glass on the mattress, we roll around again, and then observe how much the liquid splashes around with us. A mattress with higher motion transfer will cause the glass to move around much more than a mattress with lower motion transfer.
During this test, my colleague and I saw more movement in the glass than we would have liked. Memory foam mattresses typically don’t transfer a lot of motion from one side of the bed to the other, which is why we were surprised to see the water sloshing around so much when we switched between sleeping positions on the mattress.
Seismometer Test
Last but not least, there’s the seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10-pound steel ball from three different heights: 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches. The seismometer then measures the disturbance it causes. The bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.
Like the water test, these results are not the best for a memory foam mattress. I saw a lot of motion from the impact site travel to the other side of the bed after dropping the steel ball from various heights. I ended up giving the Nectar 3.5 out of 5 stars for motion isolation. The results aren’t terrible, but I’ve seen better.
Responsiveness
I test each mattress’s responsiveness by pressing down on its top layer, removing my hand, and seeing how quickly the surface returns to its original shape. Memory foam beds like the Nectar usually have a low response to pressure, while innerspring and hybrid mattresses with coils tend to have a high response to pressure. Responsive mattresses are typically good for sex and combination sleeping since they make it easy to change positions and move around.
Thankfully, what the Nectar Classic might lack in motion isolation, it more than makes up for in responsiveness, earning 4 out of 5 stars. This mattress is surprisingly responsive for an all-foam mattress. I had no trouble rolling around and switching between sleeping positions on this bed, meaning this mattress could be a solid choice for combination sleepers.
The Nectar Classic isn’t the bounciest mattress of all time, but for combination sleepers who have to have a memory foam bed, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Cooling
Several factors contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability, and its overall construction is one of the first areas I look at. The Nectar Classic is a foam mattress, and I have to keep in mind that foam mattresses often trap heat.
From actually lying on the mattress, I noticed that it does sleep cooler than a traditional memory foam mattress. This was further confirmed by the results on our thermal gun — a device I used to measure how much a mattress heats up after I lie on it for 15 minutes. 15 degrees Fahrenheit indicates poor cooling capabilities,10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
As you can see, the Nectar only heated up 5.9 degrees, indicating good cooling. When considering these results and the all-foam construction, I think this is one of the best cooling mattresses on the market — at least for memory foam bed. Because of this, I gave the bed 4.5 out of 5 stars for cooling.
Edge Support
Edge support measures the strength of a mattress’s perimeter. If a bed has strong edge support, you should be able to lie down and sit down on it without it collapsing too much beneath you. This should be an appealing feature for couples, heavier people, or anyone who likes spreading out across the mattress surface.
I think the Nectar Classic has strong edge support, especially for a memory foam mattress. As you can see below, it only sank 2 inches when I sat on the end of the bed. I also felt supported lying on the edge of the bed. I didn’t feel like I was going to fall off the edge of the mattress while lying on my side and my back, so I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars in this category.
I noticed more sinkage on the corner of the bed, which is what I expected. However, it wasn’t as bad as other mattresses in the same category as the Nectar Classic. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to people with mobility issues, as they will need stronger corners to press down on to help them get in and out of bed. However, I could see this being a good choice for couples who like to use the entire surface of the mattress.
Nectar Mattress Performance for Couples
The Nectar should be a good mattress for couples overall, especially for an all-foam bed. It scored well in edge support and cooling but average in motion isolation. So, I think most folks should be comfortable. But if motion isolation is super-important to you, or you have a partner who wakes up easily at night, you might want to consider one of the other best mattresses for couples.

When I assess a mattress’s durability, I pay attention to four crucial elements: materials, support, edge support, and warranty. If the mattress has high scores in these categories, then there’s a good chance it will hold up for a long time. The Nectar mattress earned 4 out of 5 stars for materials. This memory foam bed contains 12 inches of CertiPur-US Certified foams, meaning it doesn’t contain heavy metals or chemicals. These materials are high-quality, although I think adding coils could increase the bed’s durability. I also took a peek at the mattress warranty, as this can tell us how long the mattress is expected to last. The Nectar comes with a lifetime warranty, which shows the brand’s confidence in the durability of their product.
I gave the bed 5 out of 5 stars for support due to the 4 inches of therapeutic memory foam and support foam, as well as the 8-inch stability base layer. The Nectar does a nice job of lifting the sleeper while still providing a bit of sinkage. Even the edges of this mattress are supportive, so I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars for edge support. When sitting on the edge, the layers only sank 2 inches under my weight. Due to the supportive construction and strong edges, I don’t foresee premature sagging being an issue with the Nectar mattress.
When I average all these scores together, the Nectar has an overall durability score of 4.5 out of 5, meaning it’s a very durable mattress.

My Final Thoughts About the Nectar Mattress
Before finishing up this review, I’d like to recap what I do and do not like about the Nectar. Remember, not every mattress works for every sleeper, so even if the Nectar isn’t for you, there are many other options on the market that should suit your individual needs.
Who I Recommend the Nectar Mattress For:
- I think back sleepers would be happy on this bed. They’ll get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep.
- Hot sleepers who have to have a memory foam mattress should have no trouble at all falling asleep on this bed. The Nectar Classic sleeps surprisingly cool for an all-foam bed, and its lightweight and breathable cover should help disperse more heat.
- I recommend the Nectar Classic to combination sleepers who prefer memory foam beds. Since the Nectar doesn’t offer much sinkage, these sleepers should have no issues rolling around and switching between different sleeping positions at night.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Mattress For:
- The Nectar Classic doesn’t have the best motion isolation, so I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to couples who wake up easily at night or people with restless pets. These individuals will probably feel everything their partner or pet is doing and won’t get the best sleep.
- I also don’t think the Nectar Classic is the best option for strict side sleepers or people with sensitive joints. While heavier sleepers might get some body contouring from this bed, average and lightweight side sleepers will likely find this bed too firm.

Unlike the Nectar, the DreamCloud Original is a hybrid mattress that contains both foam and supportive coils. It also has several luxurious touches such as a cashmere-blend cover, and is a bit firmer overall.
- Price: As a luxury mattress, the DreamCloud is more expensive than the Nectar.
- Sleeping position: Back sleepers should be comfortable on both mattresses, although they should consider how firm they prefer their bed. Stomach sleepers will find more support on the Nectar Classic. Neither mattress is the best for side sleepers with sensitive joints.
- Cooling: Both of these mattresses are good cooling options — the Nectar because of its breathable cover and memory foam and the DreamCloud for its airflow-promoting coils.

Nectar vs Helix Midnight
The Midnight is part of Helix’s original line of hybrid mattresses, each of which has a different firmness level. The Helix Midnight is a medium-firm option, coming in at a 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale.
- Price: While the Helix Midnight’s market price is a bit more expensive than the Nectar, both beds are comparable after promotions and discounts. In fact, the Midnight sometimes runs cheaper than the Nectar.
- Sleeping position: I think the Midnight’s blend of comfort and support is a good fit for all three sleeping positions, so if you’re a side sleeper, this is the bed for you. Back sleepers and stomach sleepers could be comfortable on either mattress.
- Cooling: We gave these beds the same cooling score, but the hybrid construction of the Helix Midnight probably wins out over the Nectar. There’s just a lot more room for air to flow through the mattress.
- Body weight: I don’t think either mattress is the best fit for heavy sleepers. They should check out our best firm mattresses or best mattresses for heavy people instead.

Created by renowned mattress brand Sealy, the Cocoon Chill is an all-foam bed, just like the Nectar. But it’s a bit firmer, coming in at a 7 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale. It also has some additional cooling technology built into it, such as a cover made of phase change material.
- Price: These are both very affordable memory foam mattresses from brands that frequently offer discounts and promotions.
- Sleeping position: Back sleepers should be comfortable on both mattresses. Side sleepers will be better off on the softer foams of the Cocoon Chill. The Nectar Classic is a good match for stomach sleepers, who tend to need more firmness and support.
- Cooling: Per its name, the Cocoon Chill sleeps, well, cool — especially for a memory foam mattress. Hot sleepers might want to choose this bed over the Nectar, even though they’re both great cooling mattresses.
- Body weight: I don’t recommend either of these mattresses for heavy sleepers. Foam beds usually aren’t the best option for these folks, who tend to need a lot more support in the construction.

Nectar vs Nolah Signature
Although the Nolah Signature is a foam mattress like the Nectar, it’s unique in that you can get it in a “foam hybrid” model that has some firmer foams meant to give it a feel closer to a hybrid mattress. Either way, the Signature is more of a luxury option, with an organic cotton cover and several proprietary materials.
- Price: The more luxurious Nolah Signature is significantly more expensive than the Nectar.
- Sleeping position: We tested out the standard Nolah Signature and found it to be even softer than the Nectar. However, we still got the spinal support we needed, so I think both options are a good fit for side sleepers and back sleepers. The Nectar is a better choice for stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: The Nolah Signature is constructed with a proprietary material called AirFoam, which is a more breathable alternative to memory foam. This helps it sleep a bit cooler than the Nectar.
- Body weight: Neither of these beds is firm or supportive enough for heavy sleepers over 250 pounds.

What is the sleep trial period, return policy, and warranty information for the Nectar mattress?
The Nectar ships free and will be delivered to your door compressed in a box. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial period. If you don’t like it, you can return it for free within that full year and get a full refund. If you keep it, you have a lifetime warranty — or a forever warranty, as Nectar likes to call it.
Does the Nectar need a bed frame?
The Nectar needs a flat, supportive surface. The company sells a frame with wooden slats, where no box spring or additional frame is needed.
Does the Nectar need to be flipped?
The Nectar mattress does not need to be flipped. It can be helpful to rotate the mattress 180 degrees once or twice a year to increase its lifespan instead.
What does it mean for the foams in the Nectar mattress to be CertiPUR-US® Certified?
This means the foams meet CertiPUR-US standards for content, emissions, and durability. Nectar’s foams are free of ozone depleters, TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates. The company says its foams have also shown low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality.
