If you’re on the hunt for a high-quality mattress with some nice bounce, you might have stumbled across the Saatva and Avocado mattress brands. Some of their most popular models are the Saatva Classic mattress and the Avocado Green mattress. Both of these mattresses are hybrids, which means they use a combination of coils and foams to give you a one-two punch of support and pressure relief.
However, the Saatva uses memory foam, while the Avocado employs latex foam, which is bouncier and more responsive than memory foam. Which one is right for your specific needs? Read on to find out!
In this review, I’ll discuss each mattress’s materials, firmness levels, prices, policies, and share which sleepers I think they’re best for. Depending on your size, shape, and preferred sleeping position, one of these mattresses is likely to suit you better. Want to learn more about each mattress? Saatva vs Avocado: Video Review
Need a quick rundown of each mattress and who I recommend them for? Check out my Saatva vs Avocado video review below.
Saatva vs Avocado: Top Similarities
- Construction: The Saatva and the Avocado are both hybrid mattresses. This means that both beds use a combination of coils and foams.
- Pressure relief: Both mattresses have zoned support systems, meaning they will offer added pressure relief to the shoulders, hips, and lower back and added support at the head and foot.
- Shipping: Both mattresses ship free! The Avocado is a bed-in-a-box model that arrives compressed and rolled in a box. The Saatva is not a compressed model, but the brand offers free white-glove delivery and set-up.
Saatva vs Avocado: Top Differences
- Construction: The Saatva uses memory foam in its comfort layer, while the Avocado uses GOLS organic certified latex.
- Firmness: While testing these mattresses, I thought that the Avocado was softer than the Saatva (in the Luxury Firm version).
- Warranty: The Saatva offers a lifetime warranty, while the Avocado comes with a 25-year limited warranty.
Saatva vs Avocado: Construction & Feel Differences
Now that the main similarities and differences between the Saatva and Avocado are out of the way, let’s focus on what these mattresses feel like. I’ll evaluate various factors, including firmness, pressure relief, bounce, and sinkage.
Before we begin, I’d like to note that these factors are highly subjective and can vary significantly based on individual body size, shape, and weight.
What’s the Firmness Difference?
It’s important to understand that, when it comes to mattresses, firmness isn’t a one-size-fits-all scenario. Your size, weight, shape, and other factors all determine your ideal level of firmness. So your preferences might not be the same as mine. When testing a mattress for firmness, we try to capture the variance different people might feel. I test every bed with colleagues of various body shapes, types, and sizes, then average those responses to determine the final firmness score.
My colleagues and I gave the Saatva a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. We rate firmness on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. For reference, the industry standard for a medium-firm mattress is a 6.5 on the firmness scale, so the Saatva mattress leans just a touch firmer.
The Avocado is a bit softer than the Saatva, so we gave it a score of 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it’s right at the industry standard.
What Does Each Mattress Feel Like?
The Saatva is a hybrid mattress, meaning most people should find it supportive and responsive. However, everyone interacts with memory foam differently. When testing the Saatva, I felt a good amount of support on this mattress, which isn’t surprising since it has two layers of coils.
I also noticed that the Saatva has quite a bit of bounce. This is good news for anyone looking for that classic innerspring feel. However, you often trade good bounce for good motion isolation, and the Saatva is no exception. I found that the Saatva mattress had pretty high motion transfer results, which means you’re likely to feel your partner moving on the other side of the bed.
Like the Saatva, the Avocado is a hybrid mattress. However, it’s just a touch softer than the Saatva, falling right at the medium-firm benchmark. This makes the Avocado mattress a great choice for side and back combination sleepers, who need a nice mix of pressure relief and support. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, might find this bed a bit too soft for their liking.
Similar to the Saatva, the Avocado has quite a bit of bounce. Unlike memory foam mattresses, latex foam is responsive and bouncy, and in combination with coils, it makes for quite a bouncy feel.

Saatva vs Avocado Comparing Mattress Performance
Temperature
Several factors contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability. First and foremost, I consider its construction. Since both mattresses are hybrid models that feature layers of pocketed coils, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through them and keep them cool.
I tested both mattresses’ cooling features using our thermal gun. After laying on each for a few minutes and measuring how much heat each one trapped, I found that the Avocado performed a little bit better overall. The Avocado heated up about 8 degrees Fahrenheit, while the Saatva went up 9 degrees. Overall, both mattresses should do a good job at keeping things cool throughout the night.
Motion Isolation
One thing I’ve noticed while testing out my fair share of hybrid mattresses is that these beds come with a lot of bounce, and the Saatva and Avocado are no exception. Both mattresses are super responsive, meaning it’s a cinch to switch between different sleeping positions and get in and out of bed. Unfortunately, this means if you sleep with a restless partner, you’ll likely feel all their movements on your side of the bed.
To ensure that I’m not just speaking from my experience, I perform a few tests to determine if a bed is good at isolating motion. One of those tests consists of dropping a steel ball from various heights and measuring the disturbance it causes using a seismometer.
During this test, I found that both mattresses transfer a lot of motion to the other side of the bed. However, I would give the Avocado mattress the slight edge here, likely due to the added pillow top isolating those smaller movements that tend to travel from the impact site.
Edge Support
When testing the edge support on both mattresses, I didn’t find much sinkage as I sat on the edge of these beds. However, I thought the Saatva mattress did better between the two. The Saatva uses a reinforced edge support system that combines coils and firm polyfoam, leading to some fantastic results. When I measured the sinkage with a yardstick, the layers of the Saatva sank less than a half inch under my weight. The Avocado also did a decent job here, only sinking two inches as I sat on it.
Pressure Relief
The Saatva performed well on our pressure map test, where we use a specialized mat to measure how much pressure the materials are putting on different parts of the body. The mat then creates a graphic or “map” of the body using color-coded imagery. Areas with low pressure buildup are blue and green, and areas with high pressure buildup are yellow and red. As you can see on the map below, there is a lot of blue and green, indicating that this bed is good at relieving pressure.
Similarly, there is a good amount of green and blue on the pressure map below, meaning the Avocado had good test results. However, you can see that there is a bit more pressure buildup than the Saatva, especially for side sleepers around the shoulders.
Pain Relief
The results of the pressure relief test can indicate whether these mattresses aid in reducing pain in specific areas. I think the Saatva and Avocado are good options for most back sleepers who struggle with back pain. However, side sleepers, especially those with shoulder pain, should go with the Saatva or one of our best mattresses for side sleepers.
Durability
I would say the Saatva is more durable than the Avocado. The Saatva is firmer and has better edge support, meaning it’s less likely to sag prematurely. The Saatva also has two layers of pocketed coils, which should add to that durability.
On the other hand, the Avocado mattress also has a layer of pocketed coils and uses high-quality materials, such as organic cotton and natural latex.

Saatva Customer Service Rating
- Good: I gave Saatva this rating because I had to wait 25 minutes to be paired with a live agent using their website’s live chat function. Although my question was answered, they took longer than I would have liked. I also considered the bed’s warranty and trial period in my rating. Saatva’s 365-night trial and lifetime warranty (as high as you’ll find in the sleep industry) help them out quite a bit here.
Avocado Customer Service Rating
- Satisfactory: When contacting Avocado’s customer service, I was immediately paired with a bot who was unable to answer any of my questions. However, I was able to easily click talk to a human and it only took me a few minutes to reach someone. The reason I didn’t give Avocado a “good” rating is because its warranty (25 years) is a bit shorter than Saatva’s.

Our Review Process
Our Sleepopolis reviewers personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
