Avocado vs Saatva: Which is Better for You?
Depending on components like your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and whether or not you sleep with a partner or pet, one of these mattresses may be a better pick for you than the other. Take a look below at some of my recommendations.Who Should Buy the Avocado Eco Organic
- Environmentally-conscious consumers will enjoy how this Avocado is organically made. Another perk? It’s also very affordable for an eco-friendly mattress.
- If you’re looking for a product that’s going to last a long time, I think the Avocado Eco Organic is a good investment. It has Dunlop latex and steel coils, which are both durable materials.
- Lastly, I think back, side, or back-side combination sleepers will really like this mattress and find it comfortable.

Who Should Buy the Saatva Classic
- If you want the option of picking your firmness level, I think the Saatva is a great choice since it offers three different firmness options. For specific tests in this comparison, we’ll be talking about the Luxury Firm model.
- Couples or heavier folks should really like this bed since it’s sturdy, has strong edge support, and it sleeps cool.
- Lastly, back and stomach sleepers should be happy on the luxury firm version of the Saatva classic.

Avocado vs Saatva: Similarities and Differences
Let’s take a look at the key similarities and differences between these two beds. I’d also recommend looking at our full Avocado Eco Organic mattress review and Saatva Classic mattress review for more detailed information.Main Similarities
- Both these mattresses are made in the United States and ship for free to your door.
- Both beds are great fits for back sleepers. They offer the necessary support and comfort for these sleepers.
- Lastly, they’re both responsive and have some bounce to them, so they’re easy to move around on, which is great for combination sleepers or anyone who wants to get in and out of bed without a struggle.

Differences
- Starting with price, the Saatva Classic is a bit more expensive than the Avocado Eco Organic, but the Saatva also ships uncompressed in a box, comes with a longer trial period, longer warranty, and it comes with free white glove delivery.
- The Saatva comes in three firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm, so you can choose your firmness level. The Avocado has a medium-firm feel.
- The Saatva is considered a luxury hybrid innerspring mattress, while the Avocado is an organic hybrid mattress. We’ll dive more into this in the construction section.

Avocado and Saatva Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s get into detail about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Avocado Eco Organic Firmness
We gave the Avocado Eco Organic a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so it has a slightly softer feel. The top latex layer offers nice pressure relief, which is great news for back and side sleepers. Overall, the Avocado Eco Organic has a medium-soft, bouncy feel. I think it’d be a good fit for combination sleepers who need to easily change sleeping positions at night.Saatva Classic Firmness
As mentioned earlier, you can choose the firmness level of the Saatva Classic when ordering. We gave the Luxury Firm version a 7 out of 10, so we found it a little firmer than average. Overall, the Saatva has a firm, supportive, and bouncy feel. It might feel a bit softer in the center, since it has a zoned support system. It has a memory foam layer in the middle, which is meant to offer a bit of pressure relief in the center where sleepers need it.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Avocado and Saatva
As mentioned earlier, your body weight and preferred sleeping position will determine how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers: Again, we’ll be referring to the Saatva Classic in the Luxury Firm model.Avocado
Back — I think the Avocado Eco Organic is a wonderful choice for back sleepers. It’s supportive and allows for the right amount of sinkage at the hips, helping keep the spine in alignment. Side — Many average weight side sleepers (130 to 250 pounds) should feel comfortable on this mattress since it’ll conform to their hips and shoulders. However, I’d recommend anyone with pain concerns to look for a good soft mattress. Stomach — I think this bed is going to be too soft for stomach sleepers weighing over 130 pounds because their hips will sink into the bed too far — placing their spine out of alignment and potentially causing pain in the future. I think this bed will be firm enough for lightweight stomach sleepers (weighing under 130 pounds), though. Body Weight — A mattress is going to feel firmer to a lighter sleeper than a sleeper who’s heavier. Conversely, if you’re a heavier sleeper, a mattress is going to feel softer to you, as you’ll sink into it more. I don’t think the Avocado Eco Organic is going to be supportive enough for sleepers weighing more than 250 pounds. Instead, I’d recommend checking out our roundup of best beds for heavier people.
Saatva
Back — The Saatva Classic is a nice choice for back sleepers, especially if they like a firmer feel. It should feel supportive and comfortable. Side — I think this Saatva model is too firm for side sleepers for them to get the pressure relief and contouring they need. Instead, I’d look for a softer mattress or try the Plush Soft version of the Saatva Classic. Stomach — The Saatva Classic should be a comfortable fit for stomach sleepers and keep their hips elevated to align with their spine. Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. Thanks to its coils-on-coils, heavier sleepers (weighing over 250 pounds) should feel comfy and supported on the Saatva Classic.

Comparing Avocado and Saatva Mattress Materials
Now that you have a better idea of how the Avocado Eco Organic and Saatva Classic feel, I want to dive into their layers to see the full construction of each mattress.Avocado Eco Organic Materials
Cover — Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton and organic wool are in the cover of this Avocado, giving it a soft-to-the-touch, breathable feel. Comfort Layer — Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified natural Dunlop latex is in the comfort layer. It’s durable, bouncy, and cooling. Support Layer — Next are individually wrapped coils made from recycled steel. They’re thicker at the edge of the bed, so you can feel supported on the full surface of the mattress.
Saatva Classic Materials
Cover – The Saatva has an organic cotton cover. It’s breathable, soft to the touch, and has an antimicrobial treatment. Comfort Layer – Below the cover is a 3-inch Euro pillowtop. This layer is cushioning and pressure relieving. Support Layer – A layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils contour to your body’s movement and add some nice bounce, airflow, and support. Zoned Support Layer- There is a layer of CertiPUR-US certified memory foam in the center of the Saatva that offers some pressure relief in the middle of the mattress, where sleepers need it most at the hips and lower back. Foundation Layer – The Saatva’s base layer is made from steel coils that bring even more support and a powerful lift. Edge Support – The Saatva has a foam edge, which is wrapped around the coils inside the mattress to make the edge of the bed feel just as supportive as the center of the bed.
