What Is The Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Made Of?

Weighted blankets can be made with a variety of different materials. Let’s take a look at what the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket is made of.

Cover: The Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket has a dual-sided cover. The upper side is made from a blend of 99 percent cotton and 1 percent spandex. This crepe fabric is textured, whereas the underside is smooth — made from 100 percent cotton.

Fill: The fill of this blanket is a mix of 81 percent glass beads and 19 percent polyester batting fill. The glass beads are what make the blanket heavy, whereas the polyester batting fill serves to make the beads’ presence less noticeable.

Additionally, this blanket is quilted, which helps to ensure the fill stays evenly distributed throughout the whole blanket. Each six inch by six inch square on the blanket holds some of the fill. The stitches keep the fill secured within the square, so it won’t pool on one side or another.

How Much Does the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Weigh?

This blanket comes in just one weight option, which is 12 pounds. Additionally, it is 48 inches by 72 inches.

When choosing a weighted blanket, it is best to choose one that is close to 10 percent of your own body weight. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, then a 12-pound blanket would be ideal for you.

What Does the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Feel Like?

P1062304

I found the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket quite cozy. It has great weight distribution, thanks to the quilted stitching. I liked how this blanket feels much like a regular quilt, but with the weight added for some deep pressure therapy. However, I will say the outer cover isn’t the softest I’ve ever felt. The upper side has a textured, crinkly feel. It’s not unpleasant, but not ultra-soft. Still, the underside of the blanket (which was the side I actually laid under to test) feels smooth, which is comfy.

Is the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Good for Hot Sleepers?

I think this is a solid choice of weighted blanket for hot sleepers. I didn’t feel particularly warm or cold lying under it, but it is primarily made from cotton, which is a natural, breathable material. That means air can more easily flow through the material, thus preventing body heat from trapping. Compared to many other blankets made from polyester microfiber, the Brooklinen should be better for temperature regulation.

However, it isn’t an especially cooling weighted blanket. For more options, check out our top picks on the best weighted blanket page.

How Durable is the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket?

I thought this weighted blanket felt sturdy and durable. The quilted stitching will help to ensure the blanket’s quality over time, as it will keep the weighted fill evenly distributed. I also appreciated the use of batting fill in this blanket, which helps to mask the presence of the beads, so you can’t hear or feel them rolling around inside the blanket.

Is the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Good for You?

With all that in mind, let’s go over who should consider trying the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket, as well as some complaints.

P1062284

Who Should Try the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket

  • If you are looking for a high-quality, attractive weighted blanket, the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket is a great option. This blanket is not only great for sleeping or lounging with, but it will also look great in your bedroom or living room.
  • If you want a breathable weighted blanket, this cotton blanket should be a good option. The naturally breathable cotton should keep you from overheating.
  • If you want good color options, then you should appreciate this blanket being available in four colors.

Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Complaints

  • The Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket is only available in one size and one weight option. If you want different size options, such as a queen size or king size, or a different weight option, this isn’t the best choice for you.
  • While this blanket can be machine washed in a commercial washer, it shouldn’t be washed in most people’s home washers, which makes it less convenient to clean. Additionally, it doesn’t have a removable duvet cover that could be washed separately.
  • If you want an ultra-soft, fuzzy, or minky weighted blanket, you probably won’t like how the cover of the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket feels.

This weighted blanket comes with a 365-day trial period. How do I clean the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket?

This weighted blanket is machine washable in a commercial washing machine, with cold water, and can be tumbled dry on low in a commercial dryer. However, if you don’t have access to a commercial washer and dryer, then you can spot clean the blanket at home. Mix a small amount of detergent in water and with a clean cloth, dab the blanket to clean any soiled areas. Remove any detergent with clean water and allow the blanket to dry.

Will a weighted blanket help me get a good night’s sleep?

It might. Weighted blankets are designed to provide deep pressure therapy, which is a form of stimulation people also get from hugging or snuggling together. Deep pressure therapy calms the body down, which can help with sleep. Originally, weighted blankets were developed as a therapeutic tool for children with autism, anxiety, ADHD, and similar conditions. However, these heavy blankets are popular among the general public now for the calming effects they can provide.

How big is the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket?

This blanket is 48 inches by 72 inches, which is a single size/throw blanket size. This blanket is too small to work as a weighted comforter or be shared by two people.

Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket Vs

Still deciding if this is the right blanket for you? Let’s compare the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket to some competitors: the Bearaby Cotton Napper and Gravity weighted blanket.

Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket vs Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket

  • The Bearaby Cotton Napper differs quite a bit from the Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket. It is made with thick, chunky yarn made from a blend of 95 percent organic cotton and 5 percent spandex. This blanket isn’t bead-filled like the Brooklinen — instead, the weight comes solely from the heavy yarn.
  • This blanket’s chunky knit allows for lots of airflow, as there are wide holes within the blanket. This makes it a great choice for hot sleepers.
  • Additionally, the Bearaby Cotton Napper is machine washable

Brooklinen Weighted Throw Blanket vs Gravity Weighted Blanket

  • The Gravity weighted blanket is more similar to the Brooklinen than the Bearaby. It is also filled with tiny glass beads and polyester batting fill, but it features a duvet cover and an inner blanket.
  • The removable cover on the Gravity is made from a micro plush polyester, giving it a velour-style feel. Additionally, this cover is machine washable.
  • However, the Gravity blanket is much more warming than cooling, because it is made with a thick, fuzzy cover.
