When we tested the Nectar Luxe Hybrid in our studio, we found lots of cushioning at our hips and shoulders, making it a good pick for side sleepers. As I’ve mentioned, this is a very soft mattress, so it’s best suited to those seeking more pressure relief than firm support, such as sleepers with preexisting joint pain.

The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a luxury upgrade of the standard Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress. The comfort layer in the Luxe Hybrid is two inches thicker than the standard version, which makes it feel slightly softer. We rated this bed a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale and found it most compatible with lightweight and average-weight side and back sleepers.
With a height of 14 inches, this bed is Nectar’s tallest model. Its foam layers have all been CertiPUR-US certified to guarantee they’re free from harmful chemicals, which I’ll discuss in more detail later in the review. The cover is made from a poly-blend and has an antimicrobial treatment, making it less likely to irritate your allergies or attract dust and fungus.
The bed will arrive at your door compressed in a box and ready to inflate unless you opt for the white-glove delivery for an additional fee. We were impressed with Nectar’s company policies, especially its lifetime warranty and 365-night sleep trial period, which both earned 5 stars. When we combined our testing scores together, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid earned 3.2 stars overall.

What Is the Nectar Luxe Hybrid Made Of?
Here at Sleepopolis, we know the best way to evaluate what’s inside a mattress is by actually looking inside. We use a boxcutter to cut into the side of every mattress we test so we can assess the materials layer by layer.
The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a 14-inch tall hybrid bed that combines two layers of pressure-relieving foams with a layer of individually wrapped coils. This bed is made without fiberglass and contains CertiPUR-US certified foams that have met rigorous standards to ensure they don’t contain heavy metals or ozone depleters.
The Luxe Hybrid is a bed-in-a-box mattress, so it ships right to your door and arrives compressed. All you have to do is open it up, allow it to fully inflate, and enjoy. You may notice a slight stench when you first unbox the mattress. Don’t worry — this is called off-gassing and it’s completely normal. Allow the bed to rise in a well-ventilated room, and it should dissipate in 24 hours.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid Mattress Firmness
When we discuss firmness level, we know that no two sleepers experience mattresses exactly the same. What feels very firm to one sleeper might feel super soft to a sleeper with a different body type or preferred sleeping position. To combat this, we ask multiple expert testers to weigh in. Each tester provides their personal firmness score, and then we average them together to create our final firmness rating. We rate firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We consider a 6.5 out of 10 to mark a true medium-firm feel.
The Nectar Luxe Hybrid falls at a 5.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale. This means it’s definitely a soft mattress. When I tested the bed, I thought it was one of the softest I have ever tried in our studio. It has a very doughy feel to it, and I felt like I was more “in” the bed than “on” the bed. This feel is ideal for people who like feeling hugged by their mattress, as they’ll really interact with the layers of memory foam. On some beds, you only get cushioning from the comfort layer, but the Luxe Hybrid allows you to sink in further and find even more body cradling.
I found this firmness most compatible with side sleeping. The bed allows for a lot of sinkage at the shoulders and hips and contours around these pressure points. If you have sensitive hips or shoulders, I think you could find a lot of pain relief on this mattress.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Mattress Performance
While the construction and firmness of a mattress are important factors to consider, there’s a lot more that influences the way a mattress will perform for you. I tested this mattress in the Sleepopolis studio with my fellow testers Sosha Lewis, Erin Chiles, Asha Birjah, and Marten Carlson to assess it for pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support.
We collected both quantitative and qualitative data to help us better understand the mattress and make very specific recommendations about who it might work best for. Below, I’ll briefly summarize each test and how the Nectar Luxe Hybrid performed.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Pressure Relief Performance
Regardless of your body type or preferred sleeping position, pressure relief is an important factor to pay attention to. Our Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta says memory foam is one of the best materials for pressure relief, and the Nectar Luxe Hybrid contains plenty of it.
We test how well a mattress relieves pressure using a tool called a pressure mat, which we spread out onto the surface of a mattress before lying on it in the back and side-sleeping position. The mat is able to sense where pressure is building along the body and then generate a color-coded thermal image. Areas of the body that display blue and green indicate low pressure buildup, and yellow and red suggest a great deal more pressure.
Keep in mind, your body type is a major determiner for whether or not you’ll experience pressure relief on a mattress. Lightweight sleepers weighing under 130 pounds typically experience mattresses as firmer than average, as they mainly interact with the top layer. In contrast, heavy sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds usually sink further into a mattress’s layers and perceive them as softer than average. To get a fair assessment of the Nectar Luxe Hybrid, we used testers in all three weight categories.
After all our testers performed this test, we found an average pressure relief score of 3.4 out of 5 stars in the side-sleeping position and 3.7 out of 5 stars in the back-sleeping position. When we average these scores together, we find an average pressure relief rating of 3.6 stars.
The pressure mat also supplies us with an average pressure reading in pounds per square inch (PSI) for each sleeper, which tells us how evenly their weight is being distributed. The average mattress PSI in the side-sleeping position is 14.9, so we were hoping our testers had lower PSI scores than that on the Luxe Hybrid. Fortunately, both our lightweight and average-weight side sleepers had PSI scores of 13.12 and 10.34, respectively, indicating good pressure relief, so we think these types of sleepers may like this mattress. However, we don’t recommend this bed to heavy side sleepers, as our heavy tester had an average PSI of 17.35, which is higher than we wanted to see.
While the pressure mat tells us the bed is relieving pressure, most of our testers thought there was a bit too much sinkage to keep the spine in a straight line. Our average-weight tester Erin Chiles said, “I feel like my hips are sinking too far below my shoulders. I don’t feel pressure building, but some more support would help with spinal alignment.”
We then moved on to our back-sleeping tests. The average mattress PSI in the back-sleeping position is 12.4, so we were looking for PSI scores lower than that. Once again, this was true in our lightweight and average-weight testers, who had PSI scores of 9.67 and 10.34, respectively, so back sleepers with these body types should find nice pressure relief at their lower back. Yet, heavy back sleepers are not ideal candidates for this mattress, as our heavy tester had a PSI of 14.65 in this position, indicating more pressure than normal building.
Our testers overall reported feeling comfortable on their backs, with Erin finding better spinal alignment while still getting some nice cushioning in her lumbar region. “It’s definitely on the soft side and hugged my body nicely,” she said. “My back feels supported, but my hips are sinking in a tad more than my shoulders.”
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Motion Isolation
If you sleep with a partner, you may want to pay extra attention to this section. Motion isolation refers to the bed’s ability to stop movement from traveling and disturbing the sleeper on the other side. If you sleep lightly, this is especially important, as it prevents you from feeling your partner tossing and turning throughout the night. When we asked Dr. Raj Dasgupta, he told us that a bed’s ability to isolate motion speaks to its material quality, construction, and overall comfort. We tested motion isolation in our studio using a ripple test and a partner test. The Nectar Luxe Hybrid earned an overall score of 3 out of 5 stars in this category.
Our ripple test involves placing a large tub of water on one side of the mattress and then moving around on the other side. We observe how our movement affects the water and whether it’s at risk of spilling. When our tester Sosha Lewis performed the ripple test, she saw a lot of movement in the tub. “There was much more rippling than I was expecting,” she said. “I was surprised by this level of movement because thick foam layers like these typically help absorb motion.” Sosha gave the ripple test 3 stars.
Next, we swap out the water tub for a real human who wears a blindfold and raises their hand whenever they detect motion. Even though her partner was in the lightweight category, she still caused enough movement to disturb Sosha. “I could feel her getting in and out of bed and I could definitely feel her moving around,” she said. Sosha gave the mattress 2.5 stars based on this because it suggests you’re very likely to feel someone moving around next to you.
Based on these results, I wouldn’t recommend this bed to couples, especially if one or both partners tend to toss and turn. You’ll probably feel every movement they make, which can cause sleep disturbance if you’re a light sleeper.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to how quickly the bed bounces back to its original shape after pressure has been applied. Typically, very soft mattresses like the Luxe Hybrid aren’t very responsive, as they don’t have a lot of bounce and contain slow-moving foam. We didn’t find a lot of responsiveness on this mattress, so we only awarded it 2 out of 5 stars. We created this score based on data from four tests — one subjective and three objective.
Switch test: This subjective test gives us perspective on how easy it is to move around on the mattress. The tester lies on the bed and rolls around, switching from their back to their side to their stomach. When Sosha performed this test, she found it very difficult to move around and had to exert effort when switching positions. She didn’t feel that the pocketed coils provided enough bounce to aid her mobility, so she rated this test 2 stars.
Responsiveness test: In this test, we collect data on how slowly or quickly a mattress snaps back to its original shape after weight has been removed. I first placed a 53-pound kettlebell on the mattress for 7 seconds and then pulled it straight up. A stopwatch recorded how many seconds it took for the bed to return to form. It took a very long time for the foam to bounce back — 11.4 seconds, to be exact — so we rated this test 1 star.
Sinkage test: Next, I placed the 53-pound kettlebell back on the mattress and used a ruler to measure how far it sank in. I found 5.4 inches of sinkage, which is more than 2 inches deeper than the 3.3-inch average. This qualifies as deep sinkage, earning the mattress 1 star.
Bounce test: Finally, we tested the bed’s buoyancy by climbing 6 feet above the mattress and dropping a 25-pound steel ball onto its surface. A yardstick on the wall showed how high the ball bounced. On the Nectar Luxe Hybrid, the ball rebounded 5.5 inches high, which is significantly less than the 15.8-inch average. This bed is much less bouncy than average, so it earned 1 star in this category.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Cooling
When you wake up frequently feeling overheated, it can make your sleep experience very uncomfortable. If you’re a hot sleeper, you can benefit from mattresses with cooling materials and breathable constructions. We tested the Nectar Luxe Hybrid’s cooling abilities using a thermal gun test, a cover test, and a feel test to create a final cooling score of 3.5 stars.
Thermal Gun test: This test provides us with an objective look at how the bed responds to body heat and how well it regulates temperature. We start by using a thermal gun to measure the mattress’s initial temperature, and then ask a tester to lie down on it for 5 minutes. When the timer goes off, we measure the mattress’s temperature again and calculate how much it heated up. If the temperature increases by fewer than 5 degrees, we consider it to have excellent cooling. An increase of 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, and more than 15 degrees indicates poor cooling.
When Erin Chiles performed this test, the bed’s temperature went from 63 degrees to 71.2 degrees. This is an 8.2-degree temperature increase, which is classified as good cooling.
Cover test: During this test, our tester feels the surface of the bed and notes whether it has a cool-to-the-touch sensation when they first lie down. Erin said she didn’t find the bed noticeably cool and thought it had a temperature-neutral feel.
Feel test: While our tester rests on the bed for five minutes, they observe whether they can feel the bed heating up beneath them. Erin said, “I did feel the mattress heating up very slightly. It wasn’t uncomfortably hot and had more of a slight warm feeling. I will say it felt cooler than most memory foam mattresses I’ve tested.”
These results are pretty decent, so I don’t think the typical sleeper will have to worry about overheating. However, anyone who sleeps especially hot may want a mattress with even more cooling features. You can check out our top picks in our best cooling mattress roundup.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Edge Support
Edge support refers to the strength of the mattress’s perimeter. When the bed has strong edges, it feels just as supportive and secure as the very center of the bed. This allows sleepers to fully spread out and sleep right up to the side of the bed without feeling like they’re about to fall off. This is something couples may want to pay attention to, as strong edge support can make the bed feel larger. This is also appealing to older adults and people with mobility issues, as they can rely on the edge for support when getting in and out of bed. To evaluate the Luxe Hybrid here, we performed a tape measure test, a seated test, and a full body test to create a final score of 3.2 stars.
Tape Measure test: This test, also called our weighted edge support test, involves stacking weighted plates together to simulate different body types. We create a 99-pound stack, a 154-pound stack, and a 198-pound stack and place them individually on the edge of the bed. We then used a tape measure to gauge how much the edges collapsed beneath each stack.
From lightest to heaviest, the sinkage went from 4.5 inches to 5.5 inches to 6.5 inches. As the weight increased, the strength of the edges decreased. When we combine the ratings from all three stacks, the Luxe Hybrid gets an average score of 3.3 stars.
Seated test: Next, our tester sits directly on the edge of the bed with their bottom fully on the mattress. They observe how secure they feel and then stand up and down several times, taking note of whether they feel like they’re about to slip off. When Sosha performed this test, she felt mostly secure but did experience a significant amount of sinkage.
Sosha is on the shorter side, so her feet didn’t touch the ground when she sat on the edge. “When my bottom was fully on the bed, I didn’t feel like I was going to slide off,” she said. “However, when I scooted forward so my feet were on the ground, I definitely felt like I was sliding.” She ended up giving this test 3 stars.
Full body test: Next we ask our tester to lie directly on the edge of the bed on their back, side, and stomach. Sosha said, “I felt encompassed by the mattress when lying on my side, but I didn’t feel crazy secure.” She felt less secure on her back and stomach and thought the center of the bed was supporting her more than the edge. She rated this test 3 stars.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
If you sleep with a partner, cooling, responsiveness, edge support, and motion isolation are the most important categories to consider. Based on the Nextar Luxe Hybrid’s performance in these categories, I wouldn’t recommend it as one of the best mattresses for couples.
The Luxe Hybrid earned 3.5 stars or less in every one of these categories. Since the bed only earned 2 stars for responsiveness, I could see sexually active couples feeling trapped by the foams and struggling to move around. The motion isolation was given 3 stars, so light sleepers will most likely be disturbed by a tossing and turning partner next to them. The cooling earned 3.5 stars, which is just okay. Two bodies heat up quicker than just one, so hot-sleeping couples may struggle to regulate their temperature. Finally, the edge support earned 3.2 stars, so you’ll both likely gravitate more toward the center of the bed, which might make you feel crowded.
Other Performance Factors to Consider
In addition to the tests outlined above, we performed a few more tests that you’ll want to keep in mind before clicking “add to cart.”
Sex
We create our score for sex based on responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. The best mattresses for sex help prevent couples from getting too steamy while also providing enough bounce to aid the transition between positions. Strong edges are also important, as they allow you to use the entire surface of the mattress.
With 2-star responsiveness, 3.2-star edges, and 3.5-star cooling, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid earned 2.9 stars overall in this category. Based on this score, I don’t think this mattress is the best choice for sex.
Noise
I personally tested the Luxe Hybrid’s noise and rated it 5 stars. The bed is very quiet, with no creaks coming from the innerspring coil layer, as we occasionally hear in hybrid mattresses. I also didn’t notice the foam releasing any air when I pressed down on the comfort layers.
Base Compatibility
I also tested the Luxe Hybrid’s compatibility with an adjustable base. I usually have low expectations for innerspring and hybrid mattresses, because the coils sometimes struggle to bend and conform to the base. However, I thought this bed did pretty well with an adjustable base. When two of our testers were on the Luxe Hybrid together, it contoured pretty nicely, and we didn’t see any gap between the bed and the base. The mattress’s innerspring coils didn’t prevent the bed from folding. I did notice the mattress cover scrunching up quite a bit when my feet and head were fully elevated, which was pretty uncomfortable, so I gave it 3 stars overall.
Durability
When purchasing a new mattress, you expect to get years and years of use out of it. We assess durability by looking at the bed’s materials, support, edge support, and warranty. Strong support throughout the entire bed helps prevent it from sagging over time. High-quality materials are also likely to last longer than cheap ones. The warranty can also provide us with an idea of how long the retailer expects its mattress to last.
The Nectar Luxe Hybrid seems to be a pretty durable bed. Although we discussed its lackluster edge support, the bed does have a strong support system that keeps it standing strong overall. Since the mattress is so soft, you’ll find a lot of sinkage from the foam layers, but the coil layer prevents you from bottoming out. I also think Nectar mattresses have good quality materials, especially the CertiPUR-US certified foams, so I don’t think they’ll deteriorate over time. Nectar provides a lifetime warranty on all its mattresses, which earns 5 stars from us, and shows the brand is confident its products won’t need to be replaced any time soon.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Your sleeping position and body weight are the most important factors in determining how a mattress feels. For example, what feels very firm to a lightweight side sleeper might be too soft for a heavy stomach sleeper. To help determine whether this mattress is right for you, we tested it using three testers in different weight classes who tried the bed in all three sleeping positions. Below, I’ve summarized the bed’s performance for each sleeping position and body type.
Before we dive into our recommendations, though, we want to recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 230 pounds).
As a general takeaway, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average-weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average-weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more. As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the Nectar Luxe Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers are a good fit for the Luxe Hybrid. They’ll find a lot of contouring around their lower back while still experiencing a nice lift.
- Light Side Sleepers – These folks will likely find lots of sinkage and contouring around the hips and shoulders in this position, which helps relieve pressure and pain.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend stomach sleeping on this mattress. The bed is soft enough to allow the hips to sink below the shoulders, leading to back pain.
Is the Nectar Luxe Hybrid a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 pounds)?
- Average-Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers can find a lot of pressure relief while still feeling supported on this bed.
- Average-Weight Side Sleepers – You’ll find lots of deep sinkage and body contouring in this position, but you may not enjoy it if you prefer medium-firm or firm mattresses.

My Final Thoughts about the Nectar Luxe Hybrid Mattress

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nectar Luxe Hybrid For
- Stomach sleepers probably won’t find enough support at their hips to promote proper spinal alignment.
- Based on its responsiveness, cooling, edge support, and motion isolation performance, I don’t think it’s the best choice for couples.
- If you’re a heavy sleeper, I don’t recommend this bed, as it won’t provide the level of support you need in any sleeping position.
