What is the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base Made Of?
First, let’s go over what this adjustable base is made of.
The Nolah Smart Adjustable Base is made with a metal frame and an upholstered platform. It has a retainer bar at the end of the base, which keeps your mattress in place as you adjust the base.
The base comes with adjustable legs, which means you can alter the height of the base. You have four height options: six, nine, 12, or 15 inches. The upholstered platform itself is three inches tall, so the maximum height of this base is 18 inches, if you use the 15 inch legs. You can also opt to remove the legs and use the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base with a platform bed or other type of base, which allows you to customize the style of your bedroom.
The Nolah Smart Adjustable Base also has USB charging ports built into the underside, as well as underbed lighting.
How Do I Assemble the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base?
Now let’s talk about how to set up the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base. This adjustable base will ship for free via FedEx, but you’ll have to set it up yourself. Adjustable bases are pretty big and heavy, so I’d recommend grabbing a friend to help you unbox and set up.
- First, clear the area you’ll be setting up the adjustable base in.
- Then bring the box into the room and open it up. Remove all the pieces from the box and remove the packaging.
- Unfold the platform base and lay it flat, upside down on the floor.
- Find the remote, legs, and other additional pieces and remove them from the packaging.
- Then screw the legs into the appropriate spots on the frame.
- Flip the adjustable base upright and plug it into a power source.
- If you plan to use the microphone for voice controls, you’ll need to switch it on. There is a small box near the microphone on the underside of the bed with a toggle switch. Additionally, you’ll want to position the microphone along the side of the bed so it can easily detect your voice.
- Test out the remote and/or voice control to make sure it works and then you should be ready to go!
How Does the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base Work?
Let’s talk about how this adjustable base works.
There are two different ways to control the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base: remote control and voice control. You can use one or both of these methods to control the head and foot of the bed lifting and lowering, to move the base into a preset position, or turn on the massage.
Remote Control
The remote is pretty simple and intuitive to use. It has up and down buttons to raise and lower both the head and foot of the bed independently. There is also a “flat” button, which will automatically return the base to a flat position, as well as a “Zero G” button, which automatically puts the bed into the zero gravity preset. There are three memory buttons, labeled “M1,” “M2,” and “M3,” which can be used to create your own custom preset positions.
The lower section of the remote has controls for the massaging features, which allow you to set a timer and choose which massage motor you want turned on and at what intensity. Finally, there is the underbed light button.
Voice Control
To use the voice controls, you’ll activate the microphone by saying “Hello Motion” or “Hello Base,” and then the command. In the instruction manual, Nolah includes a list of all the voice commands you can use to move the base or turn on the massage. There are also emergency commands, which are “Stop Moving” and “All Up.”
I was fairly impressed with the voice controls — I honestly didn’t expect it to work very well! It didn’t work perfectly 100 percent of the time, but it was consistent enough that I would say it is a useful feature.

Let’s now take a closer look at each of the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base’s features.
Head and Foot Elevation
The Nolah Smart Adjustable Base allows you to lift and lower the head and foot of your bed. You can control each end of the bed independently, using either the remote or voice commands.
Zero Gravity
The remote control features a “Zero G” button, which allows you to easily move the bed into the zero gravity position, where the feet are elevated and the head is just slightly raised to simulate a feeling of weightlessness. You can also adjust the base into the zero gravity sleeping position with voice commands.
Flat
There is a button that automatically puts the base back into a flat position, which reads “flat.” You can also put the base back into a flat position with the voice command, “Goodnight.”
Memory
You have the option to program three customized positions, using the memory buttons on the remote. This way you can create your own “presets” to quickly adjust the bed just the way you want it for lounging, watching TV, reading, or anything else you might want to adjust your bed for.
Wall-Glide Technology
The Nolah Smart Adjustable Bases uses “wall-glide technology,” which essentially means that as you incline the head of the bed, the base will extend and move the head of the bed back so you stay in line with your nightstand.
USB Charging Ports
The base features USB ports near the head of the bed to make it easy and convenient to connect chargers for your devices.
Underbed Lighting
The Nolah Smart Adjustable Base has underbed lighting, which is a bit like a nightlight on the underside of the bed. This soft, dim light could be helpful if you need to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. It provides enough light so you won’t trip on your way out of bed, but is soft enough to not disrupt a sleeping bed partner or make you feel “too awake” by exposing yourself to bright light.
Massage
This adjustable bed also has four massage engines built into it, which you can utilize for a full or partial body massage to wind down in the evening. You can opt for an upper and/or lower body massage, as well as control the intensity of the massage. You can also set a 10, 20, or 30 minute timer on the massage to automatically shut it off.
Is the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base Good for You?
With everything we’ve covered so far in mind, let’s go over who I think this adjustable base could be a good fit for, as well as who may want to consider purchasing a different adjustable base.
Who Should Buy the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base
- Folks looking for a luxury adjustable bed frame should appreciate this one. It has just about all the bells and whistles you could ask for.
- While this isn’t the cheapest adjustable base on the market, I think it is a great deal for what you get. Considering bases with this many features could easily cost several thousand dollars, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck with a queen size priced around $1,400.
- I think the voice control features are a great addition for anyone who is prone to losing a remote or prefers not to use one. It could also be a handy accessibility feature for people who struggle with fine motor tasks.
Who Shouldn’t Buy the Nolah Smart Adjustable Base
- Folks who just want a simple adjustable base that lifts and lowers the head should likely consider another option. This base has a lot of different features, which may just not be necessary for everyone.
- This base is not going to work for people with a king mattress, as it is not available in a king size. You can do a split king or split California king, but that only works if you already have a split mattress or are planning to purchase one.
- Those who aren’t sure if an adjustable base is right for them may want to consider a brand that offers returns or a trial period, as Nolah does not.
