Is the Bear Contour Pillow a Good Pillow for You?
Depending on how you sleep and what you prefer, the Bear Contour pillow may or may not be a good fit for you. Take a look below for my initial recommendations of who should and shouldn’t try this pillow.
Who should try the Bear Contour pillow
- People with neck pain who sleep on their side or back could really benefit from this pillow’s ergonomic design. It does a great job of properly aligning the head and neck in these positions.
- Side sleepers should feel really comfortable on this pillow! It’s one of my favorite pillows for side sleeping, and it was just the right loft and firmness to keep me comfortable.
- Hot sleepers will appreciate this pillow’s super cooling cover.
Who should not try the Bear Contour pillow
- Stomach sleepers will probably find this pillow uncomfortably tall. It might bend their necks upwards, which could lead to pain.
- If you prefer a super moldable feel, one of our best down pillows, or a pillow with a shredded fill, will be a better fit for you. This pillow retains its basic shape throughout the night.
- If you’re looking for a machine washable pillow you’ll want to look elsewhere. This pillow is spot-clean only.
What Does the Bear Contour Pillow Feel Like?
Now that you know the basics, let’s get into more detail! I’ll start off by talking about how this Bear pillow feels. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, so your opinions on a pillow might differ a little from mine.
Bear Contour Pillow Firmness
The Bear Contour pillow has a medium-firm feel. I felt some initial softness and pressure relief when I first lay down, but definitely felt some firm support beneath that initial cushioning. This pillow’s fill felt fluffable and moldable but still fairly solid. In other words, I could hug and mold it a little bit, but the pillow retained its shape well during all of my adjusting.
I also liked that this pillow’s unique u-shape meant I could really feel it contouring to the curves of my shoulders and neck. The extra neck support made it feel especially comfortable when I was on my side or back.
Bear Contour Pillow Loft
The Bear pillow’s medium-firm feel means it doesn’t compress much under my weight. As a result, it maintains its 6-inch loft throughout the night. This is quite a high loft, which means this pillow will be well-suited to certain sleepers, but not a great choice for others.

Side — The Bear Contour pillow felt incredibly comfortable to me when I was on my side. My shoulders fit really nicely into its ergonomic shape, and its firmness and loft kept my head and neck feeling comfortably supported. I’d highly recommend this pillow to side sleepers, especially if they struggle with neck pain.
Back — This pillow also felt really comfortable on my back! Certain back sleepers might prefer a fluffier pillow that compresses a little more under their head. This will allow them to rest their cheeks on the side of the pillow without bending their neck too much. But I personally felt that my neck was well-supported on the Bear when I was on my back.
Stomach — This pillow is too firm and too lofty for stomach sleepers. They’ll need to crane their necks upward to keep it on the pillow, which can lead to neck and/or back pain over time. I’d recommend they check out our best pillows for stomach sleepers instead.
Under the Arm — This pillow was just moldable enough to feel comfortable under my arm. But, its ergonomic design seems wasted in this position. I’d recommend checking out one of our best body pillows instead.
Between the Legs — This pillow felt surprisingly comfortable in between my legs. If you have narrower hips, it might be a bit too lofty to rest comfortably between your legs. An overly lofty pillow might lift your hip up too far and throw off your spinal alignment. But again, this pillow is designed to support your head and neck, and does such a great job of that that it felt like a waste to use it between my legs!

What is the Bear Contour Pillow Made Of?
The Bear Contour pillow is made of entirely hypoallergenic materials, which is a great perk in a pillow. In addition to protecting you from allergens, I think the materials in this pillow all have a really high-quality feel, and felt quite durable to me. Below, I’ll break down each layer in more detail.
Cover – The Bear Contour pillow features a reversible fabric cover. One side of the cover is made of Bear’s Double Ice Fabric, which actually felt cool to the touch! If you’re looking for breathability I’d definitely opt for the cool side of this pillow. The other side of the cover is made of a polyester blend fabric that has a cozier feel.
Fill – This pillow uses a siliconized fiber fill. This fill makes the Bear Contour pillow feel similar to a down alternative pillow in that it feels fluffy and moldable, but still retains its shape well.
Is the Bear Contour Pillow Good for Hot Sleepers?
The Bear Contour is incredibly breathable and a great option for hot sleepers! In addition to having a truly cooling cover, its siliconized fill is much more cooling than fill materials like memory foam or down. It does a great job of promoting airflow and should really do a lot to keep you from overheating at night.
