What are the Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets Made Of?

Sheets can be made from a variety of different materials — there are cotton sheets, linen sheets, bamboo sheets, and more. These sheets are made from silk, but let’s talk about the specifics.

P1064007 scaled e1678112705285

Colorado Home Co.’s silk sheets are made from 100 percent pure mulberry silk. Silk is a natural fiber derived from the cocoons of silkworms. The mulberry silkworm is one of the most common, which is where mulberry silk gets its name.

The silk used in these sheets is organic, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified, and rated grade 6A, which is the highest quality rating that silk can receive. Silk quality is graded by letters (A, B, and C), which are further subdivided by number (for example: A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A). 6A is the highest possible rating, meaning the silk used in these sheets is fantastic quality.

The silk is also 22 momme, which is the Japanese unit of weight used to measure silk. Momme is similar to thread count, but it measures the weight of the fabric. It is used instead of thread count because silk threads are so thin that momme provides a clearer picture of the sheet’s weight and quality than thread count would. Twenty-two momme sheets are very good quality.

These mulberry silk sheets are available in a 3-piece queen set, 4-piece queen set, or 4-piece king set. The 3-piece set includes a fitted sheet and two pillowcases, while the 4-piece sets also include a flat sheet.

What Do the Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets Feel Like?

P1064021

The Colorado Home Co. silk sheets offer an ultra-soft, comfortable sleep experience. They feel smooth and pleasant against the skin — a great pick for anyone with sensitive skin who might be irritated by textured or rough fabrics. The 22 momme silk definitely provides an even more luxurious feel than the more common 19 momme silk used in many other sheets.

Are the Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets Good for Hot Sleepers?

Silk sheets are great for hot sleepers and the Colorado Home Co. sheets are no exception. As a natural material, silk is very breathable. That means air can easily flow through it, which prevents hot air from being trapped. The sleek feel of silk, combined with these cooling capabilities, makes it feel quite cool to the touch, which is pleasant on a hot night. I felt as cool as a cucumber testing these sheets out.

How Durable are Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets?

As 22 momme, grade 6A mulberry silk sheets, the Colorado Home Co. sheets are quite high quality. That being said, while silk can be quite durable over time, it must be cared for properly. These sheets can be machine washed, but Colorado Home Co. recommends hand washing, if you can.

Do the Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets Stay on the Bed?

The fitted sheet in this set features 15-inch pockets, which is an adequate size to fit the majority of mattresses. These deep pockets will ensure the sheet fits entirely around the bed and the corners don’t pop off. In testing, I had no issue with these sheets staying on the bed.

However, if you have never tried silk sheets before, you should be aware they can be quite slippery and become tangled up easily.

Are Colorado Home Co. Silk Sheets Good for You?

Whew! We’ve covered a lot in this review so far. Let’s summarize with some recommendations for who should try the Colorado Home Co. sheets, as well as some complaints.

P1064017

Who should try Colorado Home Co. Silk sheets

  • Anyone looking for a quality set of real silk sheets should appreciate the Colorado Home Co. sheets.
  • Hot sleepers should love the temperature-regulating effects of these silk sheets.
  • If you are looking for sheets that won’t pop off the mattress, you should be happy with the deeper pockets on these sheets.

Colorado Home Co. Silk sheets complaints

  • The Colorado Home Co. sheet sets are only available in queen sizes and king sizes, so they aren’t available to shoppers with other bed sizes.
  • These sheets will likely require more thorough care than other styles — they are machine washable, but the company recommends hand washing.
  • Being made entirely from silk — a luxury material — these sheets aren’t exactly a budget buy.

To machine wash, place the sheets in a garment bag and wash in cold water on a delicate cycle with silk detergent. Hang to dry.

Can I just buy the Colorado Home Co. pillowcases?

Yes, Colorado Home Co. sells their mulberry silk pillowcase set separately from the sheet set, if you are interested in just purchasing a pillowcase. This could be a good option for those whose budgetary restrictions might make the full set too expensive.

Are silk pillowcases good for hair and skin?

Yes, silk pillowcases can be beneficial to your hair and skin. Silk is very smooth and non-irritating, so it prevents frizz and breakage for your hair, as well as not irritating sensitive skin. Learn more on our best silk pillowcases page.

Is satin the same as silk?

Not necessarily. Satin is a type of weave, so satin can be made with silk, but also with many other materials. If you see a satin sheet set or satin pillowcase that isn’t specified to be real silk, it is likely polyester or another cheaper material. Look for labels that specify the product is silk, not just satin, if you want real silk bedding.
