A full-size mattress can be a great sleeping option for kids, single adults, and anyone with a guest room. In fact, 14 percent of the population sleeps on a full-size mattress, according to a survey conducted on American adults. Its size makes it a more spacious bed than a twin without taking up as much space as a king or a queen. Of course, finding the perfect fit depends on your preferences, preferred sleeping position, body weight, and whether or not you sleep with a partner.

With that in mind, we set out to find the best full-size mattresses for every type of sleeper. To do so, we tested more than 300 mattresses and teamed up with Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, to evaluate what to look for and review the content from a medical perspective. According to Dr. Dasgupta, “A durable mattress is characterized by high-quality materials, a strong support core, edge support, resilience, motion isolation, minimal sagging, a substantial warranty, positive brand reputation, and regular maintenance.”

Our expert testers have assessed these factors, as well as cooling and pressure relief, to ensure you’re purchasing a quality full-sized mattress that will stand the test of time. In 2024 alone, we helped match 12,544 people (and 60,108 since we started in 2014) with their perfect bed. Read on for our picks and advice on finding yours.

Our Top Pick for Full-Size Mattresses

The Nectar landed at the top of our list because of its high-quality foams — which offer a satisfying balance of support and pressure relief — as well as its affordable price.

What I Looked For in the Best Full-Size Mattresses

When putting together this list of the best full-size mattresses, my fellow mattress testers and I focused on key factors like edge support, cooling, and pressure relief to find options for all types of sleepers. Here’s a closer look at how we evaluated these mattresses.

  • Edge Support: Edge support is how well the perimeter of a mattress holds up under body weight. We test every mattress’s edge support to ensure its sides and corners are as supportive as the center. Sturdy edge support is key for making the entire surface of the mattress usable without feeling unstable. It can also make a full-size mattress feel larger than it is. To assess edge support, we conduct a series of tests that includes measuring sinkage with varying weights, sitting on the edge to check for stability, and lying on the edge in different sleeping positions to determine comfort level.
  • Cooling: Cooling is essential for hot sleepers and folks who share a bed with a partner. When reviewing a mattress’s cooling, we assess its construction for materials like cooling covers, cooling gel memory foam, and innerspring coils to facilitate airflow. We also use a thermal gun to take a surface reading of the mattress’s temperature before and after we’ve lain on it for five minutes. We find that mattresses heat up by an average of 7.14 degrees during this test, which tells us that mattresses that increase by fewer degrees are good at cooling.
  • Pressure Relief: Deep pressure relief is important for side sleepers and back sleepers with back pain. These sleepers usually experience more pressure buildup around sensitive areas. We use a pressure map test to measure a mattress’s ability to relieve pressure and pain. The map tells us the average pressure in pounds per square inch (PSI) and gives us a digital thermal reading of where pressure is building up on our bodies. We’ve found that the average PSIs for back and side sleepers are 15.1 and 12.6, respectively. If the PSI is lower than the average, that usually indicates that the mattress is less prone to pressure buildup in those positions.

The Nectar is that rare foam mattress that’s supportive enough for stomach sleepers, and should keep their hips aligned with their shoulders.
Pros of the Nectar
The Nectar offers a balanced feel, with contouring and support in equal measure.
Back sleepers should feel supported, but pleasantly cushioned on the Nectar.
Couples shouldn’t be too disturbed by movement, as the Nectar isolates motion well.
Cons of the Nectar
The Nectar isn’t supportive enough to be one of the best mattresses for heavy sleepers, which accommodate folks weighing 250 pounds or more. While heavy side sleepers might be comfortable, heavy back sleepers with chronic pain will need something softer and heavy stomach sleepers will probably need something firmer.

The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: it’s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. Plus, a lengthy trial period, lifetime warranty, and affordable price make the Nectar a reassuring choice for many. Watch our video review to learn more.

What our tester says:

“I think back sleepers would be especially happy on this bed. They’ll get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep. Hot sleepers who have to have a memory foam mattress should also have no trouble at all falling asleep on this bed.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

The Nectar Classic is my pick for the best full-size mattress because it’s the closest thing to a one-size-fits-all model. I think most sleepers will find something to love on the Nectar, thanks to its medium-firm feel and pressure-relieving memory foam. The Nectar earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in every category for an average score of 4.31 out of 5. Folks sleeping solo on a full-size mattress will love the Nectar’s exceptional pressure relief and cooling.

What stood out to me immediately was how comfortable I was on the Nectar in every sleeping position. When testing this mattress, I felt like I could easily fall asleep on my back, stomach, and side (and not just because I was tired from lugging around mattresses all day). My fellow mattress testers and I confirmed this during our pressure map test, where we had sleepers of different shapes and sizes lie on a specialized mat to see how much pressure builds up on their joints and other areas of the body. The Nectar earned a solid 4 out of 5 in this category, meaning it did a good job of relieving pressure in the side- and back-sleeping positions.

“Back sleeping felt like a breeze on the Nectar,” said mattress tester Livvi DiCicco. “The bed conforms to your lumbar area and fills in the space there, and it’s supportive enough to feel comfortable as it cushions.”

Another area where the Nectar surprisingly shines is cooling. Memory foam beds typically trap more heat than hybrid and innerspring mattresses because their dense foam usually doesn’t let heat escape. Thankfully, the Nectar has an ultra cool-to-the-touch cover to keep you from sweating through your sheets at night. After lying on this mattress for 5 minutes and recording its temperature before and after with a thermal gun, I found that it only went up by 5.4 degrees, which is outstanding for an all-foam bed. I gave it a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5 for cooling.

Nectar Thermal Comparison
Nectar Thermal Comparison

“I think the Nectar mattresses have solid heating in general,” said Livvi. “I can feel that it absorbed some heat after lying on it because it is warmer to the touch. But overall, nothing noticeable while testing it myself.”

While I believe that the all-foam version of the Nectar Classic could be a home run for most sleepers, there are two exceptions that I’d like to point out. First, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to folks with mobility concerns. The Nectar has solid edge support for an all-foam bed, but its slippery cover layer might make it challenging to bear down on while trying to stand. I also wouldn’t recommend this mattress to stomach sleepers with bigger bodies. These sleepers need something more supportive to keep their hips aligned with their spines through the night.

Pros of the Helix Midnight
Back sleepers should get some cushioning in the lumbar region, and the coils will help keep their spines neutrally aligned.
Side sleepers should experience nice pressure relief and contouring at their shoulders and hips. For extra pressure relief, we recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe, the standard Helix Midnight’s luxury version.
The Helix Midnight has low motion transfer, which means partners aren’t likely to feel each other moving around at night.
The Midnight is a responsive mattress, so it’s ideal for combination sleepers.
Cons of the Helix Midnight

The Helix Midnight is amongst Helix’s line of six standard mattresses. It’s known for its more balanced feel, allowing it to accommodate a wide range of sleepers. We also recommend it for couples, as it scored well on our motion isolation, responsiveness, edge support, and cooling tests. What our tester says:

“I would recommend this mattress for side or back sleepers because it’s supportive, without putting pressure on your joints.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Side sleepers have the challenge of finding a mattress that is soft enough to cushion their hips and shoulders yet supportive enough to keep their bodies aligned through the night. The Helix Midnight is a bed-in-a-box that rises to this challenge and provides these sleepers with excellent pressure relief and edge support, earning a 4 and a 4.2 in each category, respectively.

Our mattress testers found that the Helix Midnight alleviated pressure while keeping their spines in a healthy position, which is extra important for side sleepers who suffer from joint pain. We gave the Helix Midnight an impressive average pressure relief score of 4 out of 5 because it offered the right amount of cushioning around high-pressure areas like the hips and shoulders.

“The Helix Midnight felt pretty soft to me in the side-sleeping position,” said mattress tester Dan Caffrey. “I felt some relaxing contouring at both my shoulders and my hips.”

The Helix Midnight also excels on the support front, earning a stellar 4.2 out of 5 in the edge support category. Sturdy edge support is usually a good indicator that a mattress is supportive throughout its entire construction. In other words, you can get just as much support at the edge of the bed as you can in the center – and support is a key player in helping side sleepers fall asleep and stay asleep in a healthy position.

“I felt super secure when lying near the edge of the bed in all three sleeping positions,” said mattress tester Riley Otis. “These edges felt just as secure as the center of the bed, and I never felt at risk of falling off. I think sleepers will be able to fully spread out and use the entire surface of the mattress and still feel supported.”

Overall, I think the Helix Midnight is a great option for strict side sleepers who are looking for a soft yet supportive mattress to alleviate pressure around their sensitive joints. However, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to hot sleepers and combination sleepers. The Helix Midnight earned a 3.25 and 3.5 out of 5 in cooling and responsiveness, respectively.

If you get particularly hot at night, you’ll want to find a mattress with specialized cooling features that earned a 4 or higher in the cooling category. If you’re someone who tosses and turns or switches positions frequently at night, you’ll likely feel more comfortable on a springier mattress with a higher response score.

With soft foam and a sturdy layer of innerspring coils, the DreamCloud strikes a balance between comfort and support — a little bit of contouring up top and on-top-of-the-bed feel that comes from the bottom. It’s a fairly firm mattress that we think is most comfortable for back sleepers. It also has some luxury touches such as a cashmere-blend cover that are reminiscent of a high-end hotel. Learn more in our DreamCloud video review.

What our tester says:

“I really like how luxurious this mattress feels and how it could work for a variety of sleepers. Along with that, I found that the breathable cashmere cover helps the DreamCloud sleep cool throughout the night. Thanks to its medium-firm to firm support, I think the DreamCloud is a durable mattress. It balances support with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers.” – Bridget Chapman, former Sleepopolis senior product editor

If you’re a back sleeper searching for a full-size mattress that blends luxurious comfort with reliable support, the DreamCloud is a winner. This hybrid mattress offers enough responsive support to help sleepers maintain proper spinal alignment while lying on their backs. Our mattress testers gave the DreamCloud a 4 out of 5 or higher in key categories like edge support, cooling, and responsiveness.

The DreamCloud combines layers of foam with a supportive base of individually wrapped coils, all topped off with a breathable, cashmere-blend cover. The premium blend of foam gently contours to the body and eases pressure on the hips and shoulders, while the coil system keeps your spine supported and aligned, which is helpful for sleepers struggling with lower back pain. Our testers gave the DreamCloud a 4.5 out of 5 for edge support, because they experienced very minimal sinkage no matter where they were on the mattress.

“The foam comfort layers offer just the right amount of give,” said mattress tester Bridget Chapman. “Meanwhile, the coils underneath provided a buoyant, ‘lifted’ feel that kept my back in a healthy, neutral position.”

Temperature regulation is another area where the DreamCloud performs well. Our mattress testers gave it a 4 out of 5 for cooling, thanks to the breathable coil layer and gel-infused memory foam, which help prevent overheating throughout the night. After testing out the mattress’s cooling with our thermal gun, it showed a 7-degree rise after our tester lay on it for 5 minutes, which suggests the DreamCloud has above-average cooling.

Thermal readings from the DreamCloud mattress
Thermal readings from the DreamCloud mattress

“The DreamCloud is made with high-quality materials and has gel memory foam infusions, which help the bed sleep super cool,” said Bridget. “Its wrapped coils encourage airflow because there’s so much space between the springs.”

However, the DreamCloud scored the highest for its responsiveness, earning a perfect 5 out of 5. If a mattress is responsive, it makes it easy for you to move around and change positions. This is a perk for both sex and combination sleeping. To test this, our mattress testers see how easy it is to roll around while lying down on a mattress. We found the DreamCloud to be highly responsive: bouncy, springy, and with an on-top-of-bed feel.

The only downsides? One is motion isolation, according to our tests, in which the bed scored a 3.5 out of 5. If you’re planning on sharing your full-size bed with a restless partner or pet, you might feel some movement. But for solo back sleepers with fur babies who don’t toss and turn too much, this may not be a deal-breaker. I also think combination sleepers who switch between their backs and stomachs may find this bed too soft. They’ll want a firmer option to keep their hips elevated and in line with their shoulders.

Dreaming of getting your hands on the DreamCloud? Check out our full DreamCloud mattress review for all the details before you buy. If you’re interested in something with better motion isolation, take a look at the DreamCloud Memory Foam.

The WinkBed Plus is a firm, hybrid mattress designed specifically to accommodate heavyweight sleepers. Through our testing, we found it works best for back sleepers, particularly those over 250 pounds. It also does a good job of isolating motion, which will likely appeal to you if you sleep with a partner. If you want to learn more about the WinkBed Plus, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“This mattress was designed for heavier people and it really is a fantastic bed for these individuals. Heavy people fed up with unsupportive mattresses will find a lot to love about this luxury mattress.” – Bridget Chapman, former Sleepopolis senior product editor

If you and your significant other share limited space, a full-size mattress can make a room feel less claustrophobic. However, the tricky part is finding a full-size bed that feels bigger than it is. The WinkBed Plus is a great option for couples looking to do just that. This mattress is highly responsive and has strong edge support, earning a 4 out of 5 or higher in both categories. In other words, couples can roll all the way to the far reaches of this mattress and get the same sturdy support that they would in the center of the bed – something crucial for couples sharing a full-size mattress.

Responsiveness is especially important for two folks sharing a full-size mattress because it allows the bed to quickly adapt to movement. A responsive mattress like the WinkBed Plus ensures you won’t feel “stuck” in one position or have to wrestle with the bed to change sleeping positions. For couples, this means more freedom to shift, stretch, or snuggle without disturbing each other, making the mattress feel roomier than its dimensions suggest. My fellow mattress testers and I found that the WinkBed Plus was incredibly responsive and awarded it a perfect 5 out of 5 in this category.

“The pillow topper is a bit doughy but not enough to impede my movement,” said mattress tester Livvi DiCicco. “I was able to roll around with plenty of ease from my back to my stomach. Moving from side sleeping to my stomach or back was also pretty seamless. I think there’s enough bounce from the coils to offset the feeling of being ‘stuck’ in the cushy top layer.”

Edge support is equally crucial for couples sharing a limited amount of space because it maximizes the usable surface area. We gave the WinkBed’s edge support a strong 4.2 out of 5 because we were able to lie on the edge of the bed without ever feeling like we were going to roll off. If you and your partner have a disagreement, you can still sleep apart from each other without delegating one person to the couch.

“In each position, I felt relatively supported, even as I swung a leg over the edge,” said Livvi. “The most sinkage I noticed was on my back and side, but even then, it wasn’t enough to make me feel any less secure.”

However, the WinkBed Plus might not be the perfect match for every couple. While you might be able to save some room with a full-size model, it’s still quite tall at 13.5 inches, which is something to keep in mind if you already have a tall bed frame or adjustable base. Additionally, the WinkBed Plus is designed with bigger bodies in mind, meaning that people who fall into the lightweight category might find the WinkBed Plus to be too firm, especially in the side-sleeping position.

Want to learn more about the WinkBed? Check out the full WinkBed Plus mattress review to see how it performed on all our tests. If you’re interested in this mattress but would prefer something shorter and better tailored to lightweight sleepers, check out the original WinkBed.

The Bear Star Hybrid is a softer hybrid mattress with memory foam and innerspring coils. It offers pressure relief, contouring, and solid support for many sleeper types, but especially back, side, and combination sleepers. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“After testing out the Bear Star, I found it to be really cozy. I loved how plush the surface of the mattress felt as I was lying on it, but I still felt super supported. Lying on my back and my side, I felt comfortable and would definitely sleep on this at night in my own home.” – Amelia Jerden, senior staff writer

Are you struggling with back pain? You’re certainly not alone; around 80 percent of Americans go through it at some point in their lives, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The Bear Star Hybrid is my pick for the best full-size mattress for back pain, thanks to its plush pillow top, excellent edge support, and snappy response. This mattress delivers enough support to keep these sleepers’ spines aligned throughout the night. Meanwhile, its responsiveness makes it easier for these folks to adjust themselves and get into a more comfortable position without wrestling with the mattress and straining their back even more. The Bear Star Hybrid earned a 4.60 in the edge support category and a perfect 5 out of 5 in response.

The Bear Star Hybrid’s edge support stood out to me immediately. Thanks to its reinforced perimeter coils, sleepers should have no trouble using the entire surface without feeling like you’re going to roll off. My fellow mattress tester, Livvi DiCicco, and I rated it a 4.6 out of 5 for edge support, as its reinforced edges make the bed feel expansive and secure, even toward its far reaches.

“I felt pretty secure in every position on this mattress,” said Livvi. “There wasn’t really a noticeable difference between them. If I was super close to the edge, I noticed a teeny amount of sinkage, but only very close to the edge.”

PressureMap BearStarHybrid
Pressure maps of the Bear Star Hybrid

However, the Bear Star’s response is the real star of the show, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 during testing. During the switch test, where we rolled around and changed positions on the mattress to see how easy it would be for combination sleepers to maneuver at night, we found that transitioning from position to position was seamless. This is important for back sleepers and combination sleepers who frequently adjust themselves at night to avoid aches and pains.

“It was fairly easy to move around and switch positions,” said Livvi. “I’d say that the cushy pillow top might make it a little more difficult for some sleepers. But other than that, it’s pretty solid.”

While the Bear Star Hybrid is a great choice for folks with back pain, it still has a couple of flaws. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to folks who intend to share a bed with a partner or pet. This mattress’s motion isolation was a bit lacking, meaning that you’ll likely be disturbed by your bedmate’s movements at night. I also wouldn’t recommend this bed to extra hot sleepers. The Bear Star Hybrid had solid cooling overall, but its pillow top cover retained some heat. I think hot sleepers would benefit from something with a more breathable cover.

The Nolah Natural is made with eco-friendly Talalay latex and supportive coils. This mattress has GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic wool, cotton, natural latex, and recycled steel. The latex makes this mattress responsive, which is great for couples and combination sleepers. This material is also naturally hypoallergenic and cooling, which can help hot sleepers prevent overheating. For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

“It has a very soft, plush feel that provides you some cushioning as well. I’d say you’re going to feel more “on top” of this bed than “in it” — thanks to its bouncy latex.” – Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor.

If you’re shopping for a full-size mattress that’s both organic and exceptionally comfortable, the Nolah Natural should be high on your list. Made with natural Talalay latex, organic cotton, and wool, this mattress is just as sustainable and hypoallergenic as it is breathable and responsive—earning it a 4 out of 5 or higher in key categories like pressure relief, edge support, and response.

During testing, the Nolah Natural impressed with its pressure-relieving support, especially for back and side sleepers, earning an overall score of 4.17 out of 5 in the pressure relief category. Our mattress testers across different weight categories felt well-cushioned around their shoulders and lower backs while lying in the side- and back-sleeping positions.

“I feel comfortable and supported on my back,” said Asha Birjah, our lightweight mattress tester. “The mattress feels firm and the pressure relief feels good. I like that I don’t have a lot of sinkage in my lower back so I feel a lot more aligned in my shoulders.”

The Nolah Natural’s pressure map test results.
The Nolah Natural’s pressure map test results.

Speaking of minimal sinkage, the Nolah Natural also showed exceptional edge support, earning it a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5. Edge support becomes more important when you don’t have as much space to work with. Folks and couples opting for a full-size mattress need a bed that allows them to spread all the way out to the corners without feeling unsteady or falling off. Thankfully, the Nolah Natural is one of the few mattresses we’ve encountered with near-perfect edge support.

“I was actually really impressed with the edge support lying down,” said mattress tester Riley Otis. “I didn’t feel any significant sinkage or sagging, and I felt just as supported as the center of the bed. I think this bed would allow couples to fully spread out and sleep right up to the edge.”

Unfortunately, one area where the Nolah Natural doesn’t shine quite as brightly is motion isolation. It’s a bit bouncier than memory foam beds, so light sleepers who share a mattress might notice some movement. I also wouldn’t recommend it to hot sleepers, as its latex foam layers retain more heat than other types of mattresses, like hybrid and innerspring models. Still, for eco-conscious shoppers who value clean materials, comfort, and excellent pressure relief, this mattress is a standout option.

The Saatva’s coil-on-coil construction provides a classic innerspring feel. It’s a good option for combo sleepers, who will want to feel free to switch positions and avoid feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It comes in three firmness levels, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs. The white glove delivery Saatva provides is an added perk and will save you the headache of getting rid of your old mattress (they take it away for free!). For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

“I think the Saatva is a great option for back sleepers, as the Luxury Firm model provides enough cushioning for their lumbar region, but also lots of support to keep their spine in a neutral alignment.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

When it came time to vote for the best hybrid mattress, the Saatva Classic was the obvious winner — and with good reason. The Saatva has all the makings of an excellent hybrid option, including above-average pressure relief and edge support. After spending some time with the Saatva Classic, my fellow mattress testers and I gave it a 4 out of 5 or higher in both of the aforementioned categories.

What makes the Saatva Classic truly shine is its coil-on-coil construction, a rare find that delivers both durability and responsive support. The dual innerspring coil layers work together to keep your spine aligned while lifting your body just enough to prevent that uncomfortable “stuck” feeling. Topped with a 3-inch Euro top and a zoned memory foam layer, this mattress hits that sweet spot between pressure relief and firm support, especially for back sleepers. Our testers even gave it a 4 out of 5 for pressure relief in this position.

“This mattress feels really nice on my back,” said mattress tester Erin Chiles. “I can feel the relief in my lower back and my spine feels aligned. My shoulders feel comfortable as well.”

In our testing, the Saatva Classic scored a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5 for edge support, thanks to its ability to help sleepers maintain healthy spinal alignment without sagging or feeling like they’re going to fall off.

“I’d say that this is everything that a bed should be and more for a stomach sleeper like me,” said mattress tester Livvi DiCicco. “The pillow top allowed for enough give so my chest and tummy weren’t uncomfortably pressing into the surface. My hips were lifted, and I overall felt that my spine was properly aligned. I could also sleep on this bed without a pillow, since the surface is so comfortable.”

Honestly, the only area where the Saatva Classic didn’t dominate was motion isolation, where it received a 2.67 out of 5. The bouncy nature of the dual coils means you might feel a restless partner move around at night. I also wouldn’t recommend the Saatva Classic to side sleepers. Due to its dual coil layers, these sleepers will likely find that the Saatva lacks the cushioning needed to cradle their hips, shoulders, and other high-pressure areas.

If you’re in the market for the best full-size hybrid mattress that offers unmatched support, edge-to-edge stability, and solid pressure relief around your lower back, the Saatva Classic is hard to beat.

The Brookyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress is one of Brooklyn Bedding’s more high-end mattresses. It’s got a ton of cooling features in it that can help hot sleepers sleep cool all night. It’s also available in three different firmnesses, so it can accommodate all of the sleeping positions. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“First and foremost, I’d recommend this mattress to hot sleepers. This bed sleeps nice and cool thanks to special phase change technology and gel infusions. The Aurora Luxe is also a nice pick for back sleepers. This mattress in the Medium model is medium-soft, so it should contour the hips while also lifting them into alignment.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

If you’re struggling with hip or shoulder pain, you need a mattress that can cradle pressure points without sacrificing support, and the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe should fit that need beautifully. The Medium model of this hybrid mattress earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in pressure relief, edge support, and responsiveness, making it especially suitable for folks dealing with aches and pains.

At the heart of the Aurora Luxe’s performance is its gel- and copper-infused memory foam. These materials help dissipate heat and provide contouring support to sensitive areas like the hips and shoulders. In our testing, the Medium model earned an impressive 4.17 out of 5 for pressure relief and 4.4 out of 5 for edge support. That means it cushions the body without letting you sink too far into the bed — even at the far reaches of the mattress — which is a crucial balance for folks with joint pain.

“It’s firm, but gives a balanced, supportive feel,” said mattress tester Sosha Lewis. “It kept my hips nicely elevated and it filled in around my lower lumbar region. I also liked how it felt around my shoulders and think that full-time back sleepers, especially those who prefer a slightly firmer mattress, will like this one.”

We also brought in physical therapist Dr. Joe Tedesco, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS, and Sleepopolis’s chief medical product tester, to weigh in on the Aurora Luxe. He agreed with Sosha’s assessment, noting, “When lying on my back, I feel great. There’s no noticeable sinkage, so the pressure feels evenly distributed across my body. Everything stays in a neutral position, allowing my elbows and hips to fully relax.”

“Lying on my back, I feel great,” said Dr. Tedesco. “I’m not feeling anything sinking into the bed, so I feel even pressure throughout my body. Everything is in a neutral position and my elbows and hips can really relax in this position.”

The Aurora Luxe also excels in cooling and responsiveness, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 in both. It features an 8-inch layer of pocketed coils for airflow and support, while its cover is made of phase change material, a textile that absorbs and releases body heat to maintain a cool temperature — a huge plus for hot sleepers. In fact, thermal testing showed the mattress only warmed by about 4 degrees after five minutes of use, confirming its strong cooling performance.

Bottom line: If you’re dealing with hip or shoulder pain and sleep on your back or stomach, the full-size Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe (Medium) offers the perfect mix of support and cushioning with cooling comfort that’s hard to beat.

However, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to lightweight side sleepers or stomach sleepers with bigger bodies. The former will likely need the soft version of this mattress or a plush all-foam bed to get the cushioning they need to feel comfortable. Meanwhile, heavier stomach sleepers will probably have to opt for the firm version of the Aurora Luxe to get enough support around their hips.

The Titan Plus mattress is a durable mattress made with heavy sleepers in mind. It’s firm and features heavy-duty coils and Titanflex foam that makes it bouncy and easy to move around on. We think that heavy back sleepers and stomach sleepers should be especially comfortable. For more information on the Titan Plus, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“I think the Titan Plus lives up to its name as a good mattress for heavier sleepers. It will offer them the deep compression support and durability they need.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Sleepers with bigger bodies need a full-size mattress that can truly deliver on durability and support. Thankfully, the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Plus is here to supply both in spades. Purpose-built for heavy sleepers over 230 pounds, this mattress combines heavy-duty materials with an extra firm, supportive feel that keeps your body lifted and aligned, regardless of your sleep style. The Titan Plus earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in crucial categories for these sleepers, including edge support, cooling, and responsiveness.

The Titan Plus has a super firm feel and is engineered specifically for sleepers with bigger bodies, with a support system that can handle up to 1,000 pounds. It features a 6-inch layer of sturdy coils and dense, high-quality foam layers that work together to minimize sagging and promote healthy spinal alignment. During testing, we gave this mattress a 4.6 in edge support because of its ability to provide even support across the entire surface area of the bed.

The Titan Plus is also highly responsive, meaning that sleepers with bigger bodies won’t have to put in much effort to shift from position to position, especially if they toss and turn frequently at night. On less responsive beds and doughy memory foam models, these sleepers typically struggle more when maneuvering and switching positions. Our testers gave the Titan Plus a perfect 5 out of 5 in this category because it was a breeze for them to move around on it.

MotionTransfer BrooklynBeddingTitanPlus
Motion transfer test results for the Titan Plus were impressive

“It was very easy to move from one position to the other,” said mattress tester Sosha Lewis. “There was minimal to no resistance. Combination sleepers and sexually active couples should like how easy it is to move. You feel on top of this bed rather than down in it.”

Another area where the Titan Plus stands out from other firm mattresses is in its cooling performance. With its breathable coil layer and a quilted cover designed for temperature regulation, our testers gave it a 4.5 out of 5 for cooling.

“I didn’t feel that this mattress was cool to the touch, but it still did a great job at temperature regulation,” said Sosha. “I did not get hotter when I was lying on it. I think that neutral to warm sleepers will be perfectly fine on this.”

Overall, if you’re a heavier sleeper who needs a full-size mattress that won’t sag, sleeps cool, and delivers excellent support night after night, the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Plus is the one of the best options out there. However, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to lightweight sleepers or strict side sleepers. Even if you’re a lightweight sleeper who prefers a firmer model, this mattress is probably still too firm to get comfortable on. Similarly, strict side sleepers likely won’t get enough contouring around their shoulders and hips to avoid pressure buildup and aches and pains.

The Birch Natural is a latex mattress utilizing individually wrapped coils for added support. This mattress specializes in cooling and responsiveness, and the firmer nature suits back and stomach sleepers well. Perhaps the most special part about this mattress is the material quality. Not only is the Birch organic, but it has also earned multiple certifications for safe production and materials. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“One of my favorite things about the Birch is how cooling it is. I think any hot sleeper will be satisfied by this breathable bed. It’s definitely one of the most cooling mattresses available thanks to its wool and latex layers. These cooling materials also make it one of my favorite organic mattresses.” – Madison Schaper, Sleepopolis staff writer

For those in search of a firm mattress that offers equal parts quality and eco-friendliness, the Birch Natural is your match made in sleep heaven. With its 7 out of 10 firmness rating, this mattress offers a buoyant, lifted feel that’s ideal for back and stomach sleepers who need solid support to maintain spinal alignment. It also scored a 4 out of 5 or higher in back pressure relief and responsiveness.

Crafted with organic cotton, all-natural wool, and Talalay latex, the Birch is clean and green. It’s fully hypoallergenic and free from harmful chemicals, making it a great choice for sensitive sleepers. It’s also loaded with certifications from GREENGUARD Gold, GOTS, Eco-INSTITUT, and Fair Trade Certified Factory, so you can sleep soundly knowing your bed is as sustainable as it is supportive.

During testing, we found that the Birch performed especially well for back pain, and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 for back pressure relief. The combination of bouncy latex and responsive coils helped keep our tester’s spine lifted and aligned during back sleeping. “I got a nice bit of contouring around my lower back, with the latex foam filling in my lumbar position,” said mattress tester Dan Caffrey. “Further up on my body, I got a lift at the shoulders. Overall, I felt well-supported on my back and like my spine was neutrally aligned.”

The mattress also earned a perfect 5 out of 5 for responsiveness, meaning it’s easy to move around on. A responsive mattress is ideal for combination sleepers or anyone who doesn’t want to feel stuck in bed. That same bounce also makes it a great pick for sexually active couples who benefit from a little extra mobility.

“It was super easy to switch between sleeping positions on the Birch,” said Dan. “There wasn’t a ton of sinkage when I rolled over. I didn’t have any problems going from back to side to stomach.”

However, like many firmer beds, the Birch doesn’t offer as much pressure relief for side sleepers. If you primarily sleep on your side or have sharp pressure points at the shoulders or hips, you may want something with more contouring. Motion transfer is another area where the Birch might fall a bit short for some sleepers. While it was solid overall, if you’re a light sleeper with a restless partner, you may notice some movement transfer.

The Saatva Rx is a full-size mattress that offers exceptional support and comfort for all types of sleepers, especially folks with back and joint pain. The catch? It comes with a not-so-budget-friendly price tag of nearly $3,000 for a full size. I opted for the Saatva Classic because it offers similar benefits at a better value. However, if the Saatva Rx is within your budget, it’s a mattress that’s sure to please most sleepers.

Silk & Snow Hybrid

Of all the mattresses we’ve tested at Sleepopolis, the Silk & Snow Hybrid delivers more value than most. The Silk & Snow is only $750 for a full-size mattress and balances quality and affordability. Even better, it frequently goes on sale, so you may be able to find an even better deal on it. Ultimately, I left it off my list because it doesn’t have as strong a warranty (15 years) as the other options on this list.

How We Picked and Tested These Mattresses

At Sleepopolis, we take our recommendations seriously. Each full-size mattress on this list has been personally tested by our team, and after testing hundreds of models, we’ve developed a rigorous process that blends real-world trials with expert insights.

To ensure our recommendations are as reliable as they are relatable, we also consult with a trusted network of professionals, including doctors, physical therapists, and certified sleep science coaches. Their input helps us match each mattress to the right sleep needs so you can feel confident in finding your perfect fit.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how well a mattress holds up on the edges as compared to the center. Some beds tend to be less supportive along the sides, which is something couples and larger people should look out for. Edge support is also very important for seniors who need a bit of extra support getting out of bed. If edge support is of particular concern, we recommend not only looking at our test scores for this, but also seeing if the brand mentions edge support or reinforced edges on its site.

Just as importantly, edge support helps us determine how durable a mattress is. According to Dr. Dasgupta, “A durable mattress has high-quality materials, a strong supportive core, and good edge support. The mattress should provide long-lasting comfort and maintain its structural integrity over time.”

We test for edge support by conducting a series of tests that includes measuring sinkage with varying weights, sitting on the edge to check for stability, and lying on the edge in different sleeping positions to determine comfort level.

Cooling

If you tend to sleep hot, a full-size cooling mattress could be a great investment. Typically, hybrid or innerspring beds sleep cooler than all-foam mattresses since they allow added airflow. However, some all-foam beds manage to sleep cool, thanks to cooling technology. When looking at mattresses made with foam, we keep an eye out for cooling materials like copper, graphite, or gel. Latex mattresses are also naturally cooling. A cover can make all the difference: the best options are those made with organic cotton or phase change material, a fabric that actively works to dissipate body heat.

Sosha Lewis takes thermal readings from a CopperFlex mattress.

We test the cooling of each mattress by using our thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of a mattress and then calculate the temperature difference after lying on the mattress for several minutes. Here’s how we organize the results, based on temperature increase:

  • 5 degrees or less: Excellent
  • 5 to 10 degrees: Good
  • 10 to 15 degrees: Satisfactory
  • Over 15 degrees: Poor

Pressure Relief

If you suffer from any kind of pain, it’s very important to find a mattress that offers good pressure relief. That means the bed will evenly distribute your body weight, and prevent too much pressure from developing in one area. The best mattresses for pressure relief tend to be memory foam mattresses, which contour around joints, which helps to evenly distribute weight.

We measure every mattress’s ability to relieve pressure using a unique test called a pressure map. It involves rolling a specialized mat across the bed’s surface and lying down on it in the back- and side-sleeping positions. The mat reads how much pressure is being put on various areas of the body, then displays the color-coded results on a computer via thermal imaging. Blue is on the lowest end of the scale, indicating no pressure. Red is on the highest end, indicating very high pressure.

We also take the average mattress PSI into consideration. A higher-than-average PSI usually means that the tester is experiencing more pressure buildup on the mattress.

What to Consider When Buying a Full-Size Mattress

With so many options to choose from, deciding on a full-size mattress can feel a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, once you know what you’re looking for, it’s much easier to find the model that’s right for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for a full-size mattress for your bedroom.

Firmness

Your mattress’s firmness will impact your comfort and sleep quality, and your ideal firmness level heavily depends on your preferences and body type. A medium-firm bed (6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale) typically offers a good balance of support and pressure relief for most sleepers, but there are situations where a firmer or softer mattress might be a better fit.

When testing mattresses, we test firmness on a firmness scale from 1-10.
Sleepopolis Firmness Scale

As Dr. Dasgupta explains, “If a mattress isn’t firm enough or too firm, it can cause or worsen the discomfort around high-pressure areas. In most situations, you should opt for a medium-firm to medium-soft mattress if you need to reduce pressure.”

For example, sleepers with sensitive joints and strict side sleepers often find that a medium-firm mattress is too firm for them. In most cases, these sleepers prefer softer beds (6 or lower on the firmness scale) to give them extra cushioning and contouring around high-pressure areas. Back and stomach sleepers often need something firmer to keep their spines aligned at night.

Price

New beds are big purchases because you’re buying something that you’ll sleep on for years. Everyone wants to find a mattress that’s high-quality while still being within their budget. Some models are pricier than others, but many mattress brands frequently offer discounts around the holidays.

If you plan on buying a mattress from an online retailer, be on the lookout for holiday sales. Some of the most popular mattress sale holidays are Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Black Friday, New Year’s Day, Amazon Prime Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

Sleep Trial and Warranty

If you’re buying a new mattress online, a generous sleep trial and warranty are two must-haves. Most online mattress companies offer their customers trial periods ranging from 90 to 120 nights. Sleep trials allow you to test the mattress at home and return it if it’s not right.

A generous warranty (10 years or longer) protects you against manufacturing defects, like tears, sagging, or coil breakdown. We always recommend going with mattress companies that stand behind their product with 365-night sleep trials and lifetime warranties.
