The Best Full-Size Mattresses of 2026, According to Certified Sleep Science Coaches

Sleepopolis may earn a commission on sales through our affiliate links in this article. This commission allows us to run our testing lab and continue to bring our readers the most comprehensive information on sleep and related products. See our disclosures.

A full-size mattress can be a great sleeping option for kids, single adults, and anyone with a guest room. Its size makes it a more spacious bed than a twin without taking up as much space as a king or a queen. According to a survey, 14 percent of the American population sleeps on a full-size mattress.

With that in mind, we set out to find the best full-size mattresses for every sleeper type. To do so, we teamed up with Dr. Raj Dasgupta to evaluate what to look for and review the content from a medical perspective. We also called upon our medical product tester, Dr. Joe Tedesco, to give his orthopedic opinion on these beds.

Our expert testers assess every aspect of a bedโ€™s performance and construction to ensure youโ€™re purchasing a quality full-sized mattress that will stand the test of time. In 2025 alone, we helped match more than 31,000 people (and over 145,000 since 2014) with their perfect bed.

Sleepopolisโ€™ Best In Rest โ€“ Full-Size Mattress

The Nectar landed at the top of our list because of its high-quality foams โ€” which offer a satisfying balance of support and pressure relief โ€” as well as its affordable price. It also earned near-perfect marks for motion isolation and cooling, which should appeal to couples and hot sleepers alike.

How We Picked the Best Full-Size Mattresses

Edge support is how well the perimeter of a mattress holds up under body weight. Sturdy edge support is key to making the entire surface of the mattress usable without feeling unstable. It can also make a full-size mattress feel larger than it is.

To assess edge support, we conduct a series of tests that includes measuring sinkage with varying weights, sitting on the edge to check for stability, and lying on the edge in different sleeping positions to determine comfort level.

Every mattress, therefore, receives a rating out of 5 for edge support. For this list of full-size mattresses, we aimed to include beds that scored at least a 4 out of 5 in this category.

Measuring the deflection of weight plates along the edge of the Plank Firm Mattress

โ€œPressure relief is key for maintaining comfort and relieving pain around sensitive parts of the body,โ€ says Dr. Raj Dasgupta. Itโ€™s one of the first things we look at when determining who will enjoy a mattress most. Deep pressure relief is important for side sleepers and back sleepers, especially if they have pain concerns. These sleepers usually experience more pressure buildup around the hips, shoulders, lower back, and knees.

We use a pressure map test to measure a mattressโ€™s ability to relieve pressure and pain. Our testers also give their firsthand feedback on how they feel in each position, rating it out of 5. Ideally, a good full-size mattress should earn at least a 4 out of 5 overall, but some are better for certain positions or body types, which can skew the score.

Generating pressure maps of the Plank Firm Mattress

Cooling is essential for hot sleepers and folks who share a bed with a partner. Itโ€™s also a sign of a well-made, breathable bed with a considerate construction โ€” which makes for a great full-size mattress, regardless of whether you sleep alone or run hot.

When reviewing a mattressโ€™s cooling, we assess its construction for materials like cooling covers, cooling gel memory foam, and innerspring coils to facilitate airflow.

We also use a thermal gun to take a surface reading of the mattressโ€™s temperature before and after weโ€™ve lain on it for five minutes. The lower the number, the less heat the mattress holds onto. Hot sleepers should be satisfied with a mattress that earns at least a 4 out of 5 for cooling, but shoppers after active cooling should look for beds that scored 4.5 or higher.

Thermal imaging of the Plank Firm Mattress after being rested on

Weโ€™ve developed a rigorous 13-point testing methodology that tells us how each mattress performs and who it might be a good fit for. All of the beds on this list have been evaluated for pressure relief, cooling abilities, responsiveness, edge support, and much more.

Our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches has tested more than 500 mattresses over the last decade, allowing us to guide more than 145,000 people to the best mattress for them. Not only do we use and evaluate these products ourselves, but we also consult with Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, whoโ€™s quadruple-board certified in pulmonary, sleep, internal, and critical care medicine, to ensure we keep up to date with the latest in sleep science and medicine.

Additionally, Dr. Joe Tedesco, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS, comes into our studio to personally test mattresses and give a medical perspective on each product, and sleep and nutrition experts such as Lauren Panoff, MPH, RD, regularly verify our articles.

The Nectar isnโ€™t supportive enough to be one of the best mattresses for heavy sleepers, which accommodate folks weighing 250 pounds or more. The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: itโ€™s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. Plus, a lengthy trial period, lifetime warranty, and affordable price make the Nectar a reassuring choice for many. Watch our video review to learn more.

What our tester says:

โ€œI think back sleepers would be especially happy on this bed. Theyโ€™ll get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good nightโ€™s sleep. Hot sleepers who have to have a memory foam mattress should also have no trouble at all falling asleep on this bed.โ€ โ€“ Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Why the Nectar is the Best Full-Size Bed Overall

The Nectar Classic is my pick for the best full-size mattress because itโ€™s the closest thing to a one-size-fits-all model. I think most sleepers will find something to love on the Nectar, thanks to its medium-firm feel and cushioning memory foam. The Nectar earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in nearly every category, including a 4.7 for motion isolation and a 4.5 for cooling. Folks sleeping solo on a full-size mattress should especially love the mattressโ€™s exceptional pressure relief and breathable feel.

What Stood Out About the Nectar

What stood out to me immediately was how comfortable I was on the Nectar in every sleeping position. When testing this mattress, I felt I could easily fall asleep on my back, stomach, and side (and not just because I was tired from lugging mattresses around all day).

My fellow mattress testers and I confirmed this during our pressure map test, where we had sleepers of different sizes lie on a specialized mat to see how much pressure builds up on their joints and other areas of the body.

โ€œBack sleeping felt like a breeze on the Nectar,โ€ said mattress tester Livvi DiCicco. โ€œThe bed conforms to your lumbar area and fills in the space there, and itโ€™s supportive enough to feel comfortable as it cushions.โ€

Another area where the Nectar surprisingly shines is cooling. Memory foam beds typically trap more heat than hybrid and innerspring mattresses because their dense foam usually doesnโ€™t let heat escape. Thankfully, the Nectar has a cool-to-the-touch cover to keep you from sweating through your sheets at night.

After lying on this mattress for 5 minutes and recording its temperature before and after with a thermal gun, I found that it only went up by 5.4 degrees, which is outstanding for an all-foam bed. I gave it a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5 for cooling.

What to Keep in Mind About the Nectar

While I believe that the all-foam version of the Nectar Classic could be a home run for most sleepers, there are two exceptions that Iโ€™d like to point out. First, I wouldnโ€™t recommend this mattress to folks with mobility concerns. The Nectar has solid edge support for an all-foam bed, but its slippery cover layer might make it challenging to bear down on while trying to stand.

I also wouldnโ€™t recommend this mattress to stomach sleepers with bigger bodies. These sleepers need something more supportive to keep their hips aligned with their spines through the night. As Dr. Joe Tedesco put it, โ€œIf a heavier person lies down on this, the foam will give more, which could compromise alignment.โ€

What our tester says:

โ€œI would recommend this mattress for side or back sleepers because itโ€™s supportive, without putting pressure on your joints.โ€ โ€“ Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Why the Helix Midnight is the Best Full-Size Bed for Side Sleepers

Side sleepers have the challenge of finding a mattress that is soft enough to cushion their hips and shoulders yet supportive enough to keep their bodies aligned through the night. The Helix Midnight is a bed-in-a-box that rises to this challenge and provides these sleepers with excellent pressure relief and edge support, earning a 4.3 and 4.4 in each, respectively.

Motion Isolation: 4/5

Aside from gentle movements, our testers could not detect much motion transfer.

Pressure Relief: 4.3/5

Firmness: 6.5/10

The plush foam layers and reinforced innerspring coils give the Helix Midnight a true medium-firm feel.

What Stood Out About the Helix Midnight

Our mattress testers found that the Helix Midnight alleviated pressure while keeping their spines in a healthy position, which is extra important for side sleepers who suffer from joint pain. โ€œThe Helix Midnight felt pretty soft to me in the side-sleeping position,โ€ said our average-weight mattress tester. โ€œI felt some relaxing contouring at both my shoulders and my hips.โ€

Dr. Joe Tedesco agreed, calling it โ€œa solid mattress for side sleeping.โ€ He added, โ€œIt does a good job of supporting you while cushioning the side. The foam isnโ€™t very springy, so you sink right in.โ€

The Helix Midnight also excels on the support front, earning a stellar 4.4 out of 5 in the edge support category. Sturdy edge support is usually a good indicator that a mattress is supportive throughout its entire construction. In other words, you can get just as much support at the edge of the bed as you can in the center, and support is a key player in helping side sleepers fall asleep and stay asleep in a healthy position.

โ€œI felt super secure when lying near the edge of the bed in all three sleeping positions,โ€ said mattress tester Riley Otis. โ€œThese edges felt just as secure as the center of the bed, and I never felt at risk of falling off. I think sleepers will be able to fully spread out and use the entire surface of the mattress and still feel supported.โ€

What to Keep in Mind About the Helix Midnight

Overall, I think the Helix Midnight is a great option for strict side sleepers who are looking for a soft yet supportive mattress to alleviate pressure around their sensitive joints. However, I wouldnโ€™t recommend this mattress to especially hot sleepers, as Riley noted it had โ€œpretty averageโ€ cooling abilities. If you get particularly hot at night, youโ€™ll want to find a mattress with specialized cooling features that earned a 4 or higher in the cooling category.

The WinkBed Plus is a firm, hybrid mattress designed specifically to accommodate heavyweight sleepers. Through our testing, we found it works best for back sleepers, particularly those over 250 pounds. It also does a good job of isolating motion, which will likely appeal to you if you sleep with a partner. If you want to learn more about the WinkBed Plus, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œThis mattress was designed for heavier people and it really is a fantastic bed for these individuals. Heavy people fed up with unsupportive mattresses will find a lot to love about this luxury mattress.โ€ โ€“ Bridget Chapman, former Sleepopolis senior product editor

Why the WinkBed is the Best Full-Size Bed for Couples

If you and your significant other share limited space, a full-size mattress can make a room feel less claustrophobic. However, the tricky part is finding a full-size bed that feels bigger than it is. The WinkBed Plus is a great option for couples looking to do just that.

This mattress earned 4s and above across the board, including high performance in edge support, motion isolation, and responsiveness. This means couples can get the same sturdy support at the edges that they would in the center of the bed โ€” something crucial for couples sharing a full-size mattress โ€” all while stifling motion transfer and providing a responsive surface for sex.

Firmness: 6.5/10

While it is designed for bigger bodies, the pillow top gives the WinkBed Plus a true medium-firm feel.

What Stood Out About the WinkBed

The WinkBed offers a blend of motion isolation and responsiveness, two qualities that are usually at odds. I gave the WinkBed a near-perfect motion isolation rating of 4.7, since I could barely feel my fellow tester, Livvi DiCicco, moving beside me. But we were also able to move seamlessly on the mattress surface, thanks to its 5-out-of-5 responsiveness score.

For couples, this means more freedom to shift, stretch, or snuggle without disturbing each other, as well as better ease of movement for sex

โ€œThe pillow topper is a bit doughy but not enough to impede my movement,โ€ said mattress tester Livvi. โ€œI think thereโ€™s enough bounce from the coils to offset the feeling of being โ€˜stuckโ€™ in the cushy top layer.โ€

Edge support is equally crucial for couples sharing a limited amount of space because it maximizes the usable surface area. We gave the WinkBedโ€™s edge support a strong 4.2 out of 5; we were able to lie on the edge of the bed without ever feeling like we were going to roll off. If you and your partner have a disagreement, you can still sleep apart from each other without delegating one person to the couch.

โ€œIn each position, I felt relatively supported, even as I swung a leg over the edge,โ€ said Livvi. โ€œThe most sinkage I noticed was on my back and side, but even then, it wasnโ€™t enough to make me feel any less secure.โ€

What to Keep in Mind About the WinkBed

However, the WinkBed Plus might not be the perfect match for every couple. While you might be able to save some space with a full-size model, itโ€™s still quite tall at 13.5 inches, which is worth keeping in mind if you already have a tall bed frame or adjustable base

Additionally, the WinkBed Plus is designed with larger bodies in mind, so people in the lightweight category might find it too firm, especially in the side-sleeping position.

With soft foam and a sturdy layer of innerspring coils, the DreamCloud strikes a balance between comfort and support โ€” a little bit of contouring up top and on-top-of-the-bed feel that comes from the bottom. Itโ€™s a fairly firm mattress that we think is most comfortable for back sleepers. It also has some luxury touches such as a cashmere-blend cover that are reminiscent of a high-end hotel. Learn more in our DreamCloud video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œI really like how luxurious this mattress feels and how it could work for a variety of sleepers. Along with that, I found that the breathable cashmere cover helps the DreamCloud sleep cool throughout the night. Thanks to its medium-firm to firm support, I think the DreamCloud is a durable mattress. It balances support with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers.โ€ โ€“ Bridget Chapman, former Sleepopolis senior product editor

Why the DreamCloud is the Best Full-Size Bed for Back Sleepers

If youโ€™re a back sleeper searching for a full-size mattress that blends luxurious comfort with reliable support, the DreamCloud is a winner. This hybrid mattress provides responsive support to help sleepers maintain proper spinal alignment when lying on their backs.

Our mattress testers gave the DreamCloud a 4 out of 5 or higher in every performance category, with its most impressive marks for responsiveness (5 out of 5), motion isolation (4.7), and cooling (4.5). But most importantly, the DreamCloud also earned a perfect rating for back-sleeping pressure relief.

Pressure Relief: 4.4/5

Firmness: 6.5/10

This hybrid mattress has a balanced medium-firm feel.

What Stood Out About the DreamCloud

The DreamCloudโ€™s blend of foam top layers gently contours to the body and eases pressure, while its coil system keeps your spine supported โ€” all of which is helpful for sleepers struggling with lower back pain. Dr. Joe Tedesco rated this bed highly for back sleepers, noting the bed was โ€œvery soft yet still very supportive around the extremities, and once you sink in a bit, you feel aligned.โ€

Our testers gave the DreamCloud a 4.5 out of 5 for edge support, because they experienced very minimal sinkage no matter where they were on the mattress.

Temperature regulation is another area where the DreamCloud performs well. Our mattress testers gave it a 4.5 out of 5 for cooling. After testing the bedโ€™s cooling with our thermal gun, we measured a 5-degree rise after our tester lay on it for 5 minutes, suggesting the DreamCloud has above-average cooling.

โ€œThe cover initially felt cool to the touch,โ€ said my fellow tester Riley Otis. โ€œBut as I lay there, it felt closer to temperature-neutral. Still, it didnโ€™t heat up beyond that, so I think itโ€™s a good bed for hot sleepers.โ€

The DreamCloud scored the highest for its responsiveness, earning a perfect 5 out of 5. If a mattress is responsive, it makes it easy for you to move around and change positions. This is a perk for both sex and combination sleeping

To test this, our mattress testers see how easy it is to roll around while lying down on a mattress. We found the DreamCloud to be highly responsive: bouncy, springy, and with an on-top-of-bed feel.

What to Keep in Mind About the DreamCloud

The DreamCloud has a true medium-firm feel, which is great for back sleepers, but some folks may want to steer clear. I think combination sleepers who switch between their backs and stomachs may find this bed too soft. Theyโ€™ll want a firmer option to keep their hips elevated and in line with their shoulders.

What our tester says:

โ€œIโ€™d recommend the Bear Elite Hybrid for most back and stomach sleepers.I think these sleepers will get the needed pressure relief and contouring around the lower back and hips. This mattress does a wonderful job at offering body contouring while still helping the sleeper stay elevated and lifted as well. The layers of foam should provide comfort while the coil system should offer lots of support.โ€ โ€“ Kenny Timper, lead reviewer and certified sleep science coach

Why the Bear Elite Hybrid is the Best Full-Size Bed for Back Pain

Are you struggling with back pain? Youโ€™re certainly not alone; around 80 percent of Americans go through it at some point in their lives. A good mattress for back pain could be the first step in sleeping longer and waking up pain-free.

The Bear Elite Hybrid is our pick for the best full-sized bed for back pain. It earned a 4.1 out of 5 for overall pressure relief, thanks to its dense pillow top that contours to your body. The coil unit should help keep your spine aligned in each position, reducing the risk of back strain and keeping you in a comfortable posture throughout the night.

What Stood Out About the Bear Elite Hybrid

After trying out the mattress, Dr. Joe Tedesco recommended the Elite Hybrid to side and back sleepers with back pain โ€” primarily the former. โ€œI feel very supported and cradled on my side, to the point where I donโ€™t notice any pressure, which people with back pain will appreciate,โ€ he explained. โ€œWhen Iโ€™m on my back, I feel pretty supported and even have a bit of a weightless feeling in my core.โ€

These sentiments were echoed by lightweight tester Riley Otis, who especially loved the mattress for back sleeping: โ€œThe cushioning on this mattress feels good on my upper and lower back, itโ€™s really comfortable overall,โ€ she said.

Couples dealing with back pain should also appreciate the Bear Elite Hybridโ€™s ability to absorb motion. โ€œThis mattress has good motion isolation overall,โ€ said my fellow tester Sosha Lewis. โ€œI could tell when my partner sat down, got up, and moved around in bed, but it was minimal.โ€

You should also be able to make full use of the bedโ€™s surface area, as the Bear Elite Hybrid offers some fairly strong edge support. Sosha noticed a little bit of compression from the pillow top while seated at the perimeter, but this disappeared while lying down. โ€œThere was minimal to no sinkage, so I felt very secure,โ€ she explained.

What to Keep in Mind About the Bear Elite Hybrid

The only area the Bear Elite Hybrid lagged a bit behind was in responsiveness. It earned a just-average rating of 4 out of 5. The soft pillow top is great for cradling sensitive parts of the spine, but it can impede movement when youโ€™re trying to switch sleeping positions.

The Leesa Sapira Chill is a hybrid mattress, available in three firmness levels. We tested the Medium-Firm model and felt it was just softer than average. It should be especially comfortable for back sleepers and side sleepers. The bed also has some effective cooling technology built into it, which helps to keep sleepers cool throughout the night. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œSleepers with joint pain can appreciate the soft, plush feel, which can reduce tension and stiffness at their pressure points. I also think back sleepers and side sleepers will be comfortable on this mattress.โ€ โ€“ Riley Otis, staff writer

Why the Leesa Sapira Chill is the Best Full-Size Hybrid

If you canโ€™t choose between a soft, all-foam mattress and a supportive innerspring bed, consider a hybrid mattress that offers the best of both worlds. Hybrid mattresses are constructed with a few layers of memory foam for soft pressure relief and a sturdy coil layer that helps prop the spine into a neutral position. When it comes to full-size beds, we chose the Leesa Sapira Chill as the best hybrid because it earned 4.5 stars in our pressure relief test and is supportive enough for both side and back sleepers.

Moving around was largely seamless, save for rolling over on the doughier pillow top.

Edge Support: 3.9/5

While our tester found the edge support acceptable, there was more sagging in our weighted tests.

Pressure Relief: 4.5/5

Our pressure map results showed almost no pressure buildup on the Leesa Sapira Chill.

Firmness: 6/10

Firmness: 6/10

We found the Leesa Sapira Chillโ€™s construction to have a softer feel.

What Stood Out About the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid

The Leesa Sapira Chill combines a plush quilted cover with three layers of contouring foam and a tall layer of pocketed coils. When our testers evaluated the bedโ€™s firmness, they thought it had a medium-soft feel, landing at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

โ€œWhen I tested this mattress, I found it had a marshmallowy feel that hugged my body,โ€ said certified sleep science coach Riley Otis. โ€œWhile I definitely felt more โ€˜inโ€™ the bed than โ€˜onโ€™ the bed, I still found enough support from the innerspring coils to lift my body and prevent too much sinkage.โ€

For pressure relief, our lightweight and average-weight testers ended up giving this bed an average score of 4.7 for the side-sleeping position and 4.3 for back sleeping. On their sides, our testers found plush cushioning and sinkage at their hip and shoulder joints, which prevented pressure from building uncomfortably. These testers also felt spinal support when lying on their backs, especially in the lumbar region, due to the soft foam filling the space in the lower back.

We also noted excellent cooling from the Sapira Chill, which earned 4.5 stars during testing. To understand how much heat the mattress holds onto, Riley used a thermal gun to record the mattressโ€™s temperature before and after she lay on it for five minutes. The temperature only increased by about 6 degrees.

โ€œI immediately noticed that the bed was cool to the touch, which felt soothing on the skin,โ€ Riley said. โ€œI thought maybe the initial cool feel would go away after a few minutes, but it stayed present the entire time, and I couldnโ€™t feel the mattress heating up beneath me at all.โ€ Based on this test, the Leesa Sapira Chill is a great choice for hot sleepers.

What to Keep in Mind About the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid

Although this bed is supportive enough for lightweight and average-weight side and back sleepers, our heavy tester did not find enough lift to keep his spine aligned in any position. The plushness also makes it difficult to move around without feeling โ€œstuck,โ€ so combination sleepers may struggle to easily switch between sleeping positions.

For more on this hybrid mattress, read our full Leesa Sapira Chill mattress review. Looking for a more supportive option for heavy people? We recommend the Titan Plus Core mattress, a hybrid specifically designed for these sleepers.

The Brookyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress is one of Brooklyn Beddingโ€™s more high-end mattresses. Itโ€™s got a ton of cooling features in it that can help hot sleepers sleep cool all night. Itโ€™s also available in three different firmnesses, so it can accommodate all of the sleeping positions. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œFirst and foremost, Iโ€™d recommend this mattress to hot sleepers. This bed sleeps nice and cool thanks to special phase change technology and gel infusions. The Aurora Luxe is also a nice pick for back sleepers. This mattress in the Medium model is medium-soft, so it should contour the hips while also lifting them into alignment.โ€ โ€“ Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Why the Aurora Luxe is the Best Full Bed for Hip and Shoulder Pain

If youโ€™re struggling with hip or shoulder pain, you need a mattress that can cradle pressure points without sacrificing support, and the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe should fit that need beautifully. The Medium model of this hybrid mattress earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in pressure relief โ€” making it especially suitable for folks dealing with aches and pains โ€” as well as edge support, cooling, and responsiveness.

Firmness: 7/10

Firmness: 7/10

What Stood Out About the Aurora Luxe

In our testing, the Medium model earned an impressive 4.5 out of 5 for pressure relief and 4 out of 5 for edge support. That means it cushions the body without letting you sink too far into the bed โ€” even at the far reaches of the mattress โ€” which is a crucial balance for folks with joint pain.

Our average-weight tester called it her โ€œfavorite bed for back sleepersโ€ out of the hundreds sheโ€™s tested. Lightweight tester Riley Otis noticed that while she liked the bed for side sleeping, the Medium Aurora Luxe may not offer the extra contouring that sleepers with sensitive joints need. These folks might prefer the Soft model.

We also brought in physical therapist Dr. Joe Tedesco, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS, and Sleepopolisโ€™s chief medical product tester, to weigh in on the Aurora Luxe. He agreed with Soshaโ€™s assessment, noting, โ€œWhen lying on my back, I feel great. Thereโ€™s no noticeable sinkage, so the pressure feels evenly distributed across my body. Everything stays in a neutral position, allowing my elbows and hips to fully relax.โ€

โ€œLying on my back, I feel great,โ€ said Dr. Tedesco. โ€œIโ€™m not feeling anything sinking into the bed, so I feel even pressure throughout my body. Everything is in a neutral position and my elbows and hips can really relax in this position.โ€

The Aurora Luxe also excels in cooling and responsiveness, earning a 4 out of 5 in both. It features an 8-inch layer of pocketed coils for airflow and support, while its cover is made of phase-change material, a textile that absorbs and releases body heat to help maintain a cool temperature โ€” a huge plus for hot sleepers.

What to Keep in Mind About the Aurora Luxe

The Aurora Luxe did drop the ball in our motion isolation tests. It performed just so-so, which means light sleepers may want something that absorbs motion before it can travel across the surface. โ€œI picked up on most of my partnerโ€™s movement when they rolled in my direction, which caused a bit of jostling,โ€ Riley said after trying the bed out with another tester.

The Nolah Natural is made with eco-friendly Talalay latex and supportive coils. This mattress has GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic wool, cotton, natural latex, and recycled steel. The latex makes this mattress responsive, which is great for couples and combination sleepers. This material is also naturally hypoallergenic and cooling, which can help hot sleepers prevent overheating. For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œIt has a very soft, plush feel that provides you some cushioning as well. Iโ€™d say youโ€™re going to feel more โ€œon topโ€ of this bed than โ€œin itโ€ โ€” thanks to its bouncy latex.โ€ โ€“ Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor.

Why the Nolah Natural is the Best Full-Size Organic Bed

If youโ€™re shopping for a full-size mattress thatโ€™s both organic and exceptionally comfortable, the Nolah Natural should be high on your list. Made with natural Talalay latex, organic cotton, and wool, this mattress is just as sustainable and hypoallergenic as it is breathable and responsive, earning it a 4 out of 5 or higher in pressure relief, edge support, and response.

What Stood Out About the Nolah Natural

During testing, the Nolah Natural impressed with its pressure-relieving support, especially for back and side sleepers, earning an overall score of 4.2 out of 5 in the pressure relief category. Our mattress testers across different weight categories felt well-cushioned around their shoulders and lower backs while lying in the side and back-sleeping positions.

โ€œI feel comfortable and supported on my back,โ€ said Asha Birjah, our lightweight mattress tester. โ€œThe mattress feels firm, and the pressure relief feels good. I like that I donโ€™t have a lot of sinkage in my lower back so I feel a lot more aligned in my shoulders.โ€

Speaking of minimal sinkage, the Nolah Natural also showed exceptional edge support, earning it a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5. Folks and couples opting for a full-size mattress can spread out to the corners without feeling unsteady or falling off.

โ€œI was actually really impressed with the edge support lying down,โ€ said mattress tester Riley Otis. โ€œI didnโ€™t feel any significant sinkage or sagging, and I felt just as supported as the center of the bed. I think this bed would allow couples to fully spread out and sleep right up to the edge.โ€

What to Keep in Mind About the Nolah Natural

Unfortunately, one area where the Nolah Natural doesnโ€™t shine quite as brightly is motion isolation. Itโ€™s a bit bouncier than memory foam beds, so light sleepers who share a mattress will likely notice movement traveling across the surface.

I also wouldnโ€™t recommend it to hot sleepers, as our cooling test showed this bed held onto heat. After five minutes of one tester lying down on the mattress, our thermal gun recorded a whopping 10-degree increase in temperature. Still, for eco-conscious shoppers who value clean materials, comfort, and excellent pressure relief, this mattress is a standout option.

Lightweight sleepers probably wonโ€™t get any pressure relief or contouring, so they might be better off with one of the best mattresses for lightweight sleepers.

The Titan Plus mattress is a durable mattress made with heavy sleepers in mind. Itโ€™s firm and features heavy-duty coils and Titanflex foam that makes it bouncy and easy to move around on. We think that heavy back sleepers and stomach sleepers should be especially comfortable. For more information on the Titan Plus, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œI think the Titan Plus lives up to its name as a good mattress for heavier sleepers. It will offer them the deep compression support and durability they need.โ€ โ€“ Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

Why the Titan Plus Core is the Best Full-Size Bed for Heavy People

Sleepers with larger bodies need a full-size mattress that can truly deliver on durability and support. Thankfully, the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Plus Core is here to supply both in spades.

Purpose-built for heavy sleepers, this mattress combines heavy-duty materials with an extra-firm, supportive feel that should keep your body lifted and aligned, regardless of your sleep style. The Titan Plus earned a 4 out of 5 or higher across the board, including crucial categories for these sleepers, like edge support, cooling, and responsiveness.

The Titan Plus Coreโ€™s heavy-duty construction is quite firm compared to most mattresses.

What Stood Out About the Titan Plus Core

The Titan Plus has a super-firm feel and is engineered specifically for sleepers with bigger bodies, with a support system that can handle up to 1,000 pounds.. Dr. Joe Tedesco noted, โ€œA larger person who needs support will probably do better on their back on this mattress.โ€

This fell in line with our heavyweight tester, who rated the mattress at a 5 out of 5 for back sleeping pressure relief. โ€œI really enjoy this mattress on my back,โ€ he said. โ€œI feel a lot more supported and in a neutral position. Thereโ€™s no excessive pressure, and the cushioning feels nice.โ€

The Titan is also highly responsive, meaning that sleepers with bigger bodies wonโ€™t have to put in much effort to shift from position to position, especially if they toss and turn frequently at night. On less responsive beds and doughy memory foam models, these sleepers typically struggle more when maneuvering. Our testers gave the Titan Plus Core a perfect 5 out of 5 in this category because it was a breeze for them to move around on it.

โ€œIt was very easy to move from one position to the other,โ€ said mattress tester Sosha Lewis. โ€œThere was minimal to no resistance. Combination sleepers and sexually active couples should like how easy it is to move..โ€

Another area where the Titan Plus stands out from other firm mattresses is in its cooling performance. We did have the opportunity to try it out with the upgraded GlacioTex cover, which our testers gave a 4 out of 5 for cooling. โ€œI think heavy sleepers who tend to run hot will really appreciate the GlacioTex cover, which offers an immediate cooling sensation when you first lie down,โ€ said tester Riley Otis.

What to Keep in Mind About the Titan Plus Core

I wouldnโ€™t recommend this mattress to lightweight sleepers or side sleepers with sensitive joints. Even if youโ€™re a lightweight sleeper who prefers a firmer model, this mattress is probably still too firm to get comfortable on. Similarly, some side sleepers likely wonโ€™t get enough contouring around their shoulders and hips to avoid pressure buildup and aches and pains.

The Birch Natural is a latex mattress utilizing individually wrapped coils for added support. This mattress specializes in cooling and responsiveness, and the firmer nature suits back and stomach sleepers well. Perhaps the most special part about this mattress is the material quality. Not only is the Birch organic, but it has also earned multiple certifications for safe production and materials. For more information, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

โ€œOne of my favorite things about the Birch is how cooling it is. I think any hot sleeper will be satisfied by this breathable bed. Itโ€™s definitely one of the most cooling mattresses available thanks to its wool and latex layers. These cooling materials also make it one of my favorite organic mattresses.โ€ โ€“ Madison Schaper, Sleepopolis staff writer

For those in search of a firm mattress that offers equal parts quality and eco-friendliness, the Birch Natural is your match made in sleep heaven. With its 7 out of 10 firmness rating, this latex mattress offers a buoyant, lifted feel thatโ€™s ideal for back and stomach sleepers who need solid support to maintain spinal alignment. It also scored 4s and above across the board, including a 5-out-of-5 responsiveness rating.

Pressure Relief: 4/5

While the Birch provides solid pressure relief for various types of sleepers, it is ideal for back sleepers.

A man lying on his side on the Birch Natural mattress.

Firmness: 7/10

The Birch Natural is slightly firmer than the industry standard of medium-firm (6.5 out of 10).

What Stood Out About the Birch Natural

Crafted with organic cotton, all-natural wool, and Talalay latex, the Birch is clean and green. Itโ€™s fully hypoallergenic and free from harmful chemicals, making it a great choice for sensitive sleepers. Itโ€™s also loaded with certifications from GREENGUARD Gold, GOTS, Eco-INSTITUT, and Fair Trade Certified Factory, so you can sleep soundly knowing your bed is as sustainable as it is supportive.

During testing, we found that the Birch performed especially well for back pain, and gave it a 4.3 out of 5 for back-sleeping pressure relief. The combination of bouncy latex and responsive coils helped keep our testerโ€™s spine lifted and aligned during back sleeping.

โ€œI got a nice bit of contouring around my lower back, with the latex foam filling in my lumbar position,โ€ said our average-weight mattress tester. โ€œFurther up on my body, I got a lift at the shoulders. Overall, I felt well-supported on my back and like my spine was neutrally aligned.โ€

The mattress also earned a perfect score for responsiveness, meaning itโ€™s easy to move around on. A responsive mattress is ideal for combination sleepers or anyone who doesnโ€™t want to feel stuck in bed. That same bounce also makes it a great pick for sexually active couples who benefit from a little extra mobility.

โ€œIt was super-easy to switch between sleeping positions on the Birch,โ€ our in-house tester explained. โ€œThere wasnโ€™t a ton of sinkage when I rolled over. I didnโ€™t have any problems going from back to side to stomach.โ€

What to Keep in Mind About the Birch Natural

However, like many firmer beds, the Birch doesnโ€™t offer as much pressure relief for side sleepers. If you primarily sleep on your side or have sharp pressure points at the shoulders or hips, you may want something with more contouring.

Motion transfer is another area where the Birch might fall a bit short for some sleepers. While it was about average overall, if youโ€™re a light sleeper with a restless partner, you may notice some movement transfer.

Latest Updates: We updated this page at the end of May in 2026 to reflect re-testing of these beds by our sleep science coaches and medical product tester, Dr. Joe Tedesco. As a physical therapist, Dr. Tedesco was able to provide an orthopedic perspective on which sleepers will feel most comfortable on a mattress. We also reorganized our buyerโ€™s guide so you can easily find all the need-to-know information about the best full-size mattresses.

Other Full-Size Mattresses I Considered

There were quite a few full-size mattresses that nearly earned a spot on this roundup, but unfortunately, I had to narrow it down to my top 10. However, I feel bad leaving these two also-rans off the list entirely. Learn more about them below.

Saatva Rx

The Saatva Rx is a full-size mattress that offers exceptional support and comfort for all types of sleepers, especially folks with back and joint pain. The catch? It comes with a not-so-budget-friendly price tag of nearly $3,000 for a full size. I opted for the Saatva Classic because it offers similar benefits at a better value. However, if the Saatva Rx is within your budget, itโ€™s a mattress thatโ€™s sure to please most sleepers.

Silk & Snow Hybrid

Of all the mattresses weโ€™ve tested at Sleepopolis, the Silk & Snow Hybrid delivers more value than most. The Silk & Snow is only $750 for a full-size mattress and balances quality and affordability. Even better, it frequently goes on sale, so you may be able to find an even better deal on it. Ultimately, I left it off my list because it doesnโ€™t have as strong a warranty (15 years) as the other options on this list.

What Makes a Great Full-Size Mattress

A lot goes into finding the best mattresses on the market. For full-size beds, we focused on areas we believed would appeal to shoppers looking for quality, comfortable, and space-saving beds โ€” like edge support, pressure relief, and cooling.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how well a mattress holds up on the edges as compared to the center. Some beds tend to be less supportive along the sides, which is something couples and larger people should look out for. Edge support is also very important for some older adults or anyone who needs a bit of extra stability getting out of bed.

Just as importantly, edge support helps us determine how durable a mattress is. According to Dr. Dasgupta, โ€œA durable mattress has high-quality materials, a strong supportive core, and good edge support. The mattress should provide long-lasting comfort and maintain its structural integrity over time.โ€

A person sits on the edge of a mattress
Edge support testing

We test for edge support by conducting a series of tests, including measuring sinkage with varying weights, sitting on the edge to assess stability, and lying on the edge in different sleeping positions to determine comfort level. Each of these is rated out of 5, which is then combined into our final overall edge support rating.

If edge support is of particular concern, we recommend not only looking at our test scores for this, but also seeing if the brand mentions edge support or reinforced edges on its site. This signals that the manufacturer has taken extra steps to ensure the mattress wonโ€™t sag.

Pressure Relief

If you suffer from any kind of pain, itโ€™s very important to find a mattress that offers deep pressure relief. That means the bed will evenly distribute your body weight, and prevent too much pressure from developing in one area. The best mattresses for pressure relief tend to be memory foam mattresses, which contour around joints, which helps to evenly distribute weight.

We measure every mattressโ€™s ability to relieve pressure using a unique test called a pressure map. It involves rolling a specialized mat across the bedโ€™s surface and lying down on it in the back- and side-sleeping positions. The mat reads how much pressure is being put on various areas of the body, then displays the color-coded results on a computer via thermal imaging. Blue is on the lowest end of the scale, indicating no pressure. Red is on the highest end, indicating very high pressure.

Generating pressure maps of the Plank Firm Mattress
Our testers generating pressure maps

We also take the average mattress PSI into consideration. A higher-than-average PSI usually means that the tester is experiencing more pressure buildup on the mattress. Weโ€™ve found that the average PSIs for back and side sleepers are 15.1 and 12.6, respectively. If the PSI is lower than the average, that usually indicates that the mattress is less prone to pressure buildup in those positions.

Finally, we also take our testersโ€™ opinions into account. They give us verbal feedback about how they feel lying on the mattress in each position. We aim to have three testers, each representing one weight category (lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight), try out the mattress. This ensures we get a holistic view of how the mattress will feel to different sleepers. Each tester also gives a rating out of 5, which factors into the final pressure relief rating.

Sometimes, a mattress scores higher for one specific body type or position and poorly in another, which can drag down the overall score. This is why weโ€™re always quick to mention which sleeper types and conditions will benefit most from a bedโ€™s pressure-relieving ability.

Cooling

If you tend to sleep hot, a full-size cooling mattress could be a great investment. Sleeping alongside a partner in a full-size mattress also creates close quarters, which generates more heat. Since many space-saving couples love a full-size mattress, thatโ€™s why we kept cooling in mind when choosing these beds.

Typically, hybrid or innerspring beds sleep cooler than all-foam mattresses since they allow added airflow between the coils. However, some all-foam beds manage to sleep cool. When looking at mattresses made with foam, we keep an eye out for cooling materials like copper, graphite, or gel.

Latex mattresses are also naturally cooling. They offer more breathability than synthetic foam and are most often perforated with extra air pockets to keep air flowing through the surface.

A cover can make all the difference: the best options are those made with organic cotton or phase change material, a fabric that actively works to dissipate body heat.

A person takes temperature readings from a mattress.
Thermal testing

We test the cooling of each mattress by using our thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of a mattress and then calculate the temperature difference after lying on the mattress for 5 minutes. Hereโ€™s how we organize the results, based on temperature increase:

  • 5 degrees or less: Excellent
  • 5 to 10 degrees: Good
  • 10 to 15 degrees: Satisfactory
  • Over 15 degrees: Poor

Most hot sleepers will do well on a mattress that earns at least a 4 out of 5 in our test โ€” or at least below a 10-degree increase in surface temperature.

What to Consider When Buying a Full-Size Mattress

With so many options to choose from, deciding on a full-size mattress can feel a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, once you know what youโ€™re looking for, itโ€™s much easier to find the model thatโ€™s right for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for a full-size mattress for your bedroom.

Firmness

Your mattressโ€™s firmness will impact your comfort and sleep quality, and your ideal firmness level heavily depends on your preferences and body type. Firmness can vary based on personal opinion, but we rate our mattresses on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.

A medium-firm bed (6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale) typically offers a good balance of support and pressure relief for most sleepers, but there are situations where a firmer or softer mattress might be a better fit.

As Dr. Dasgupta explains, โ€œIf a mattress isnโ€™t firm enough or too firm, it can cause or worsen the discomfort around high-pressure areas. In most situations, you should opt for a medium-firm to medium-soft mattress if you need to reduce pressure.โ€ Certain sleeper types may be more inclined to certain firmnesses, which Iโ€™ll dive into in the section below.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight

โ€œYour body type and preferred sleeping positions have an impact on the ideal mattress for your needs,โ€ says Dr. Dasgupta. โ€œItโ€™s important to take these into account when deciding on the firmness or type of mattress you want.โ€

Sleepopolis team testing mattresses in every sleeping position
Sleepopolis team testing mattresses in every sleeping position

For example, sleepers with sensitive joints and strict side sleepers often find that a medium-firm mattress (the most common recommendation) is too firm for them. In most cases, these sleepers prefer softer beds to give them extra cushioning and contouring around high-pressure areas. Back and stomach sleepers often need something firmer to keep their spines aligned at night.

If you switch between multiple sleeping positions, youโ€™ll want a mattress that can comfortably accommodate each of them. You might also want to consider a bed with a responsive surface, which will make transitioning between these positions more seamless.

Your weight can also affect how a mattress feels to you. Sleepers over 230 pounds tend to sink further into a mattress than others, which can lead to them โ€œbottoming outโ€ on uncomfortable support layers. Conversely, lightweight sleepers (under 130 pounds) may have trouble sinking into a mattress surface. This means they may find beds are firmer than expected.

Heavyweight sleepers therefore may want to go firmer for more support, while lightweight sleepers may like a softer mattress for better pressure relief.

Price

New beds are big purchases because youโ€™re buying something that youโ€™ll sleep on for years. Everyone wants to find a mattress thatโ€™s high-quality while still being within their budget. Some models are pricier than others, but many mattress brands frequently offer discounts around the holidays.

If you plan on buying a mattress from an online retailer, be on the lookout for holiday sales. Some of the most popular mattress sale holidays are Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Black Friday, New Yearโ€™s Day, Amazon Prime Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

Trial and Warranty

If youโ€™re buying a new mattress online, a generous sleep trial and warranty are two must-haves. Most online mattress companies offer their customers trial periods ranging from 90 to 120 nights. Sleep trials allow you to test the mattress at home and return it if itโ€™s not right.

A generous warranty (10 years or longer) protects you against manufacturing defects, like tears, sagging, or coil breakdown. We always recommend going with mattress companies that stand behind their product with 365-night sleep trials and lifetime warranties.
