Is the Layla Memory Foam Pillow a Good Pillow for You?

No pillow is good for every sleeper, as primary sleeping position, body type, and personal preferences all affect how a pillow works for different people. Let’s go over who I think is a good match for the Layla Memory Foam pillow and who should consider buying a different pillow.

P1058757

Who should try the Layla Memory Foam Pillow

  • If you are a back sleeper who likes a firmer, more supportive pillow, I think you’ll find the Layla Memory Foam pillow to be a good match.
  • If you want a pillow you can customize, you’ll appreciate this pillow’s adjustable loft.
  • If you want a pillow with a washable cover, you will like that this pillow’s cover can be easily tossed in the washing machine to clean.

Who should not try the Layla Memory Foam Pillow

  • I don’t think this pillow is a great fit for side sleepers. I think a loftier pillow would work better. Take a look at our best pillows for side sleepers for more options.
  • I also don’t find this pillow to be particularly cooling. If you are looking for a pillow that feels cool to the touch or allows for more airflow, check out our best cooling pillows.
  • If you like fluffy shredded memory foam pillows with a conforming feel, this may not be a match for you. The inner lining of foam pads dampens the moldable, contouring effect of the shredded foam fill.

What Does the Layla Memory Foam Pillow Feel Like?

I personally tested the Layla Memory Foam pillow to get a sense of how it feels, but keep in mind you may have a different experience, as feel is subjective.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow Firmness

When it comes to firmness, we categorize pillows as either soft, medium, or firm. Each firmness level is best suited for a different sleeping position: soft for stomach sleepers, medium for back sleepers, and firm for side sleepers.

I think the Layla Memory Foam pillow has a medium-firm feel. The foam feels quite dense and doesn’t allow you to sink in too deeply, keeping your head and neck overall elevated. It’s not completely firm, but definitely leans more towards a sturdy feel than a true medium.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow Loft

Like firmness, pillows can also be categorized by loft, or height. We divide pillows into low, medium, and high lofts, with low lofts working best for stomach sleepers, medium lofts working best for back sleepers, and high lofts working best for side sleepers.

The Layla Memory Foam pillow has a medium loft, but it does compress a bit when you lay on it, which can make the loft feel lower. Additionally, the loft is adjustable. This pillow is filled with shredded foam and polyester fiber, which you can remove to lower the loft of the pillow.

Now let’s go over my experience in each sleeping position with the Layla Memory Foam pillow.

Side — I didn’t think the Layla Memory Foam pillow was super comfortable for side sleeping. I think it could be okay for combo sleepers who occasionally switch to their side, but for full-time side sleeping I think a loftier pillow would be better to get proper neck support.

P1058785

Back — I found laying on my back to be quite comfortable on the Layla Memory Foam pillow. I felt my neck being supported and didn’t feel like it was being forced to crane upwards.

P1058794

Stomach — I didn’t think the Layla Memory Foam pillow was the best for stomach sleepers as is. I felt it was too firm and that my neck was craning upwards. However, you could remove some fill to lower the loft to a comfortable level for stomach sleeping.

P1058803

Under the Arm — I thought sleeping with the Layla Memory Foam pillow under my arm was quite comfortable. It’s squishable enough to easily hug while laying on your side for a little extra support.

Between the Legs — I also thought the Layla Memory Foam pillow worked well for putting between my legs. It offered nice pressure relief on my leg without being so large that my hips were out of alignment.

What is the Layla Memory Foam Pillow Made Of?

Cover: The Layla Memory Foam pillow has a removable cover with a zipper. It is made from 100 percent polyester fabric with a hex pattern.

P1058756

Inner Lining: The inside of the Layla Memory Foam pillow is lined with polyester-backed, gel-infused memory foam pads, underneath the cover and surrounding the fill.

P1058770

Fill: The fill of the Layla Memory Foam pillow is 70 percent shredded memory foam and 30 percent polyester fiber. The foam used in this pillow is CertiPUR-US certified for safety.

P1058773

The Layla Memory Foam pillow is available in a queen and a king size. I tested the queen size pillow for this review.

Is the Layla Memory Foam Pillow Good for Hot Sleepers?

I don’t think the Layla Memory Foam pillow is a particularly good pillow for hot sleepers. It is essentially made of memory foam and polyester, neither of which are great for cooling; memory foam traps heat and polyester is not very breathable.

The gel infusions in the foam should draw some heat away from the body and Layla says the foam is open-cell to promote breathability, but overall I didn’t find this pillow to feel cool to the touch or keep me feeling particularly cool.

My Final Thoughts About the Layla Memory Foam Pillow

The Layla Memory Foam pillow combines shredded memory foam and foam pads to create a medium-firm, supportive feel. I think this pillow is best suited for back sleepers who like a pillow with a dense feel that doesn’t allow their head and neck to sink in too much.

P1058752

I think it could also work for some stomach sleepers, if you remove a good amount of the fill to lower the loft — removing a lot of fill should also make the pillow feel softer, which is important for stomach sleepers.

The sleepers I don’t think this pillow will work well for are side sleepers. I felt the pillow wasn’t lofty enough to provide the neck support a side sleeper needs. Instead, I would recommend the Layla Kapok pillow, which is one of the best pillows for side sleepers I’ve tested — it’s also adjustable.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow Policies and FAQs

How does the Layla Memory Foam pillow ship?

Layla offers free shipping within the contiguous United States. They also ship to Hawaii and Alaska for an additional fee, as well as to Canada for an additional fee.

Does the Layla Memory Foam pillow come with a sleep trial?

Yes, Layla offers a 120-night sleep trial period for this pillow. That means you can test it out at home for 120 nights and if it’s not a good fit, you can return it within that trial period for a full refund. However, Layla does ask that you test it for at least four weeks to ensure you have time to adapt to the pillow before returning.

Does the Layla Memory Foam pillow come with a warranty?

It does. Layla offers a 5-year warranty on this pillow.

Is the Layla Memory Foam pillow machine washable?

No, this pillow is not machine washable but you can wash the pillow cover in a washing machine. Wash the cover in cool water on a normal cycle and tumble dry on low heat. To clean the inner lining, spot clean with mild soap, rinse, and squeeze the water out gently. Allow the inner lining to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat.

Do I need to use a pillowcase with the Layla Memory Foam pillow?

Because the cover of this Layla pillow is machine washable, you don’t necessarily need to use a pillowcase. However, I always recommend using one anyway for extra protection for your pillow, particularly since the inner parts are not machine washable.

What other sleep products does Layla offer?

Layla Sleep sells a variety of sleep products, including the Layla, a memory foam mattress, and Layla Hybrid — both of which are flippable. They also offer sheets, a weighted blanket, a down-alternative comforter, mattress bases, a mattress topper, mattress pad, and more.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow Vs

To help you finalize your decision about whether the Layla Memory Foam pillow is right for you, let’s compare it to another Layla pillow and two competitors.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow vs Layla Kapok Pillow

P1037568

  • The Layla Kapok pillow is filled with a mix of shredded memory foam and kapok fibers. Kapok is a fiber that grows on kapok tree seeds and is a soft, fluffy, natural down alternative. The cover is made from a blend of polyester, viscose and poly lycra with copper fibers called CuTEC yarn, which is intended to provide a cooling effect.
  • This pillow has a very high loft of seven inches, but can be adjusted by removing the kapok/memory foam fill.
  • Its high loft and firm feel make it an excellent choice for side sleepers.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow vs Nectar Copper Pillow

P1038514

  • The Nectar Copper pillow is also a shredded memory foam pillow, but it has a true medium feel. It also has a medium loft, making it a great choice for back sleepers.
  • The cover of the Nectar Copper pillow is cool to the touch, thanks to copper infusions and polyethylene used in the fabric blend.
  • I also thought the Nectar Copper pillow was comfortable for side sleeping, so it is a good option for back/side combo sleepers.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow vs Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow

eden back

  • The Coop Home Goods Eden pillow is filled with a blend of shredded gel-infused memory foam and microfiber fill. Its cover is made from a blend of polyester and bamboo rayon, which offers a cool feel.
  • The Coop Eden pillow is an adjustable pillow, so you can remove the fill to lower the loft. Coop also sends additional fill so you can raise the loft, if desired. I found it comfortable as is for side sleeping and good for back sleeping, once the loft is lowered.
  • Additionally, the Coop Eden is hypoallergenic.
