Last winter, my boyfriend and I tried out the Scandinavian sleep method, which is the practice of using two separate duvets or blankets instead of one queen- or king-size one while sleeping as a couple. This is a common practice in Scandinavian countries but is popular in other parts of Europe as well. The concept has caught on among some Americans (like myself) who share a bed with a partner, particularly partners who sleep at different temperatures or who tend to hog the covers.
When I tested the Scandinavian sleep method out, I simply used two twin-size comforters. But the ervét Split-Duvet bundle presents a more sophisticated way. This split-duvet consists of two separate duvets that can attach together with magnets, so you and your partner can snuggle up together or each have your own blanket.
To test out this more advanced version of my previous Scandinavian sleep method experiment, I re-enlisted my boyfriend to help me test this product out for a couple weeks. In this review, I’ll go over how to use the ervét Split-Duvet, what it’s made of, who I think will like it, and my experience using it. Or you can always skip ahead for a review summary.

Who The érvet Split-Duvet Could Be Good For
Let’s go over who I think should try the érvet Split-Duvet and who can skip it.
Who Should Try The érvet Split-Duvet
- Couples who sleep at different temperatures should try the érvet Split-Duvet. The cold sleeper can opt for the warm all-season insert, while the hot sleeper can opt for the cooler lightweight insert.
- Couples who have trouble with hogging the blankets should also try the érvet. Having separate duvets allows each partner to sleep comfortably without worrying about stealing the covers, but you can also rejoin the two to snuggle up together or make the bed.
- Shoppers who are interested in trying the Scandinavian sleep method but aren’t sure if they will like it should also try the érvet. It works a little more seamlessly than two regular comforters would and it comes with a 100-night trial period.
Who Should Not Try The érvet Split-Duvet
- If you don’t want to complicate your bed-making process, this split duvet might not be the right choice for you. It’s fairly simple to use, but it definitely adds more steps than just laying a single blanket on your bed.
- If you are bothered by noise, you might not like how the magnets make a loud clack when they reattach together, which happened a few separate times while I tested this product.
- If you and your partner are happily sleeping together with a single comforter, this product might be unnecessary for you.

How To Use The érvet Split-Duvet
When you first receive your Split-Duvet bundle, you will have to assemble it a bit. The comforter inserts will be separate from the duvet covers, so first you will need to put the inserts in.
To do so, you will want to:
- Lay the comforter inserts flat on each side of the bed.
- Flip the duvet covers inside out to access the ties.
- Tie the corner and long-edge ties to the loops on the comforter insert to attach the two pieces.
- Reach for the hand holes at the end of the cover from inside the duvet cover and pull the comforter through.
- Tie the remaining ties and zip the cover up.
- Repeat these steps for the other comforter insert and duvet.
Once you have assembled both halves, you can align the magnets to secure the pieces together. After that, you simply sleep under the blanket exactly as you would any other. You and your partner can separate your duvets by simply pulling them apart or keep them connected throughout the night.
What The érvet Split-Duvet Is Made Of
The duvet covers are made from 100 percent cotton in a sateen weave, with a 300-thread count. Sewn into the edges are waterproof, machine-washable magnets.
The comforter inserts are made with a cotton blend fabric and filled with microfiber polyfill, a down alternative. The inserts are available in two weights: lightweight and all-season. The lightweight is 2.5 TOG (measure of thermal resistance of a unit area) and the all-season is 4.5 TOG, so the all-season is heavier and warmer. Both styles of insert are OEKO-TEX certified for safety.
Both the duvet cover and insert are machine washable. Wash and dry the duvet covers inside out on a delicate cycle. Be sure not to wash the duvet cover at a temperature higher than 175 degrees Fahrenheit, as it could cause the magnets to demagnetize. Air dry the duvet covers until they are about 85 percent dry, then tumble dry for 10 minutes and remove promptly. The insert can be washed in cold water and tumbled dry on low.
The duvet covers are available in a few different color options, including: white (the color I tested), sage, gray, navy, red, and teal/tan reversible. Additionally, the érvet Split-Duvet set is available in a queen or king size.
My Experience Using The érvet Split-Duvet
My érvet Split-Duvet bundle included one lightweight and one all-season comforter insert. I decided to use the all-season and give the lightweight to my boyfriend, as I tend to be much more of a cold sleeper than he is.
I did have a little trouble putting the duvet covers and inserts together at first, but after a little time spent figuring it out, I was able to successfully put it all together. Attaching the two duvets with the magnets was fairly easy, as well.
The duvets themselves feel very nice. They are fluffy, soft, and quite cozy, so I definitely was excited to sleep under them. On the first night, the two duvets separated pretty quickly as we slept, which isn’t too surprising, as one of us generally ends up stealing the covers from the other.
However, occasionally, the two duvets would be close enough to each other again for some of the magnets to reattach, which makes a loud, clicking noise that’s a little startling the first time you hear it. This happened a few separate times over the weeks we tried this duvet — it wasn’t a constant occurrence but happened enough times that I was aware of it. The noise is a bit like a loud clap.
After a couple of weeks sleeping with these duvets, we both agreed that overall they are quite comfortable. It didn’t take much time at all for us to adjust to using the Split-Duvet. Starting out the night with the two pieces attached makes it feel the same as using a regular comforter. Then as the night went on, I could easily pull my individual duvet away to wrap myself up without worrying about stealing the covers from my boyfriend.
It was starting to get cold where we live as we tested the Split-Duvet and we both felt like it kept us warm at night. I thought this was a success for the different weights of inserts, since my boyfriend runs warmer than I do — he was able to use the lighter one and I had the heavier one. They did feel noticeably different to me, with the all-season providing much more warmth.
We also both liked that we could rejoin the duvets to make the bed look nicer and if we wanted to snuggle up together before bed. To me, this is one of the biggest improvements over simply using two twin sized comforters, along with having different options for warmer/colder sleepers.
One con that we both noticed though was that making the bed is a little more complicated with these split duvets than with a single blanket. If you move around a lot in your sleep or have a tendency to kick your comforter off, these duvets can get pretty tangled up and fall off the bed easily, since they are two separate pieces. It’s not a huge deal to fix in the morning, but it’s also not as simple as one single blanket.
All in all, I think the érvet is a good option for any couples who are interested in trying out sleeping with separate comforters!

Final Thoughts
After testing out the érvet Split-Duvet, I am quite happy with this product. I found both the inserts and duvet covers to feel quite high-quality and comfortable, which is an important factor for any bedding purchase. Additionally, I thought the Split-Duvet was effective at allowing two partners to share a comforter when they want and split apart when they want — as well as allowing couples where one sleeps hot and the other sleeps cold to have comforters that suit them.
