Do I Need a Bed Frame?

There are a variety of different bed bases available these days, from metal bed frames to platform beds to adjustable bases. The Nectar bed frame is a platform bed, which are popular for their simplicity and more modern designs. Many shoppers also like these bed frames because they don’t require a boxspring. These bed frames can come in a wide variety of designs, but are often fairly low profile.

Platform beds are generally compatible with any type of mattress — foam, innerspring, and hybrid all usually work well with these beds frames.

Who Should Buy the Nectar Bed Frame

Anyone looking for a stylish bed frame with a headboard should like Nectar’s bed frame. I think this bed frame would easily fit in many bedrooms, especially since it comes in two colors.
This bed frame is a really good option for budget shoppers. At under $800 for a queen size at full retail, I think this bed frame is fairly priced — especially considering it has a headboard and doesn’t require a box spring. You can also usually get it for even cheaper using our coupons.
I think this bed frame feels really sturdy, so I think it’ll be a good option for couples, as well as people looking for a frame that will last a while.

Who Might Not Buy the Nectar Bed Frame

If you prefer a more minimal look, you might not love the tufted headboard this bed frame features.
If you are looking for a high-end bed frame, the Nectar bed frame might not meet your expectations. While I think it is high quality and looks nice, it achieves that budget-friendly price by using cheaper materials like plastic legs and polyester fabric, which aren’t the most luxurious or classy options out there.

How Do I Set Up My Nectar Bed Frame?

The Nectar bed frame is designed for easy assembly and does not require any additional tools — everything you need is included.

The bed frame will ship in one large, flat box. It is pretty large and heavy, so I recommend setting the frame up with one or two other people to help. Be sure to read the included directions before starting to ensure you are assembling everything correctly.

First, clear the space you want to set the frame up in and bring in the box.
When you open up the box, you’ll find the headboard and footboard. There is a zipper on the back of the headboard, which you’ll unzip to find the rest of the pieces.
Once you take all the pieces out, you can start assembling. Find the legs and screw them into the headboard and footboard pieces.
Then you’ll need to find the two included allen wrenches (they are two different sizes, as the frame has screws of two sizes) to unscrew the screws on the frame pieces so that you can attach the joining pieces. These joining pieces slide behind the screws and are held in place once you retighten the screws.
Follow that basic process to attach all the pieces of the frame together.
Then attach the middle support pieces the same way until the entire frame is assembled.
Once you’ve screwed everything in place, you can lay the wooden slats down across the bed. The slats have Velcro that will stick them in place on the frame.

This entire process took me and my coworkers about an hour. We did have a couple mishaps where we misunderstood the directions at first, so again, be sure to read clearly.

What is the Nectar Bed Frame Made Of?

The bed is made up of a steel frame, wooden slats, and a wooden headboard and footboard upholstered with polyester fabric. The headboard is button-tufted for a stylish look and has a slightly plush feel. It also has reinforced plastic legs.

This frame comes in two colors: gray (the version I tested) and linen, which is an off-white color. It also comes in five sizes: twin, full, queen, king, and California king.

Additionally, Nectar says this frame can support up to 700 pounds, including both the sleeper(s) and mattress.

My Verdict on the Nectar Bed Frame

Overall, I think the Nectar bed frame is a great option for anyone looking to upgrade their bedroom on a budget. The tufted headboard and upholstery definitely give this bed frame an elevated look over a simple metal frame. The assembly was pretty simple, despite a little user error on our part. I particularly liked how the frame shipped with all the pieces in the back zipper compartment of the headboard — if you ever had to disassemble the frame to move, I think you could easily stick all the pieces back in that compartment for easy transport.

When testing the frame out with a mattress, I felt the bed was well-supported and didn’t notice any shifting or squeaking. The height also worked well for easily getting in and out of the bed. I also like how the headboard makes a nice spot to rest against if you like to sit up in bed to read.

My biggest complaint about this bed frame is that some of the materials look a little cheap. While I think the overall aesthetic of the frame is more elevated, a closer inspection definitely reveals why this frame is so budget-friendly. In particular, I think the plastic legs look cheap — wooden legs or just metal would look more chic to me. It also does not come in a twin XL or split king size, if that is what you are looking for.

No, the Nectar bed frame does not have any built-in underbed storage space. However, there is enough room under the bed frame that I think you could store some smaller items.

Should I buy a new mattress with my bed frame?

It depends. If you like your current mattress and it is less than 10 years old and not showing any visible signs of deterioration, you probably don’t need to replace it. If it is more than 10 years old or visibly deteriorated, we would recommend getting a new one. If the issue is just comfort, you could always consider adding a mattress topper to help you get your best sleep with the mattress you already have.
