What is the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Made Of?
There are a variety of materials used to make weighted blankets and different types of materials will offer different feels, textures, and cooling capabilities. Let’s go over what materials are used in the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit weighted blanket.
This blanket is made from chunky, heavy yarn knit into a fabric to form the blanket. The yarn has an outer shell of 100 percent polyester jersey knit fabric. It’s filled with 100 percent polyester filling.
And that’s it! There’s no weighted fill used in this blanket, such as plastic pellets or glass beads. Instead, the weight comes solely from the fact that the yarn is heavy.
How Much Does the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Weigh?
The Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit weighted blanket is available in either 10 or 15 pound weight options. Both weight options are throw blanket size, at 50 inches by 60 inches.
When choosing a weighted blanket, it’s best to choose a blanket weight that is close to 10 percent of your own body weight. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, then a 15-pound blanket would be ideal for you.
What Does the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Feel Like?
I found the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit weighted blanket to be super cozy. I expected to like it, since I’ve enjoyed similar blankets like the Bearaby Cotton Napper and Douglas Hand-Knit weighted blanket.
The polyester jersey fabric feels quite soft and smooth, which is pleasant. The material feels reminiscent of really comfortable sweatpants. But the chunky knit also offers a nice textured feel, which is quite different from other styles of weighted blankets with velvety or minky covers. Additionally, the chunky knit allows for airflow easily through the blanket, so I didn’t find myself overheating.
However, I did notice this blanket felt a bit more stiff than other hand-knit blankets I’ve tested before. It doesn’t drape around you much and generally holds its shape. This wasn’t necessarily a negative thing, just a slight difference from similar blankets.
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Good for Hot Sleepers?
I thought this blanket was quite breathable. Having the knit construction allows for air to easily flow through the large holes in the blanket, which prevents overheating. However, it is worth noting this blanket is made entirely of polyester, which is not as breathable as cotton. Still, I think the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit weighted blanket makes a great option for hot sleepers.
How Durable is the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket?
Durability is an important consideration whenever you are shopping for a new bedding item. One pro for this blanket’s durability is its design. If you have a weighted blanket filled with beads or pellets, there is a risk of the blanket ripping and the fill spilling out — which could be a choking hazard for kids and animals. Additionally, the design allows for great weight distribution — no worries about fill pooling on one side or another.
However, a con for this blanket’s durability is that it is not machine washable. This blanket is spot-clean only.
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Good for You?
With all that in mind, let’s go over who I think should try the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit weighted blanket, as well as some complaints.
Who Should Try the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket
- Hot sleepers should appreciate the breathability of this knitted blanket, which helps with temperature regulation.
- Folks who love the textured feel of a chunky knit will appreciate how cute and cozy this hand-knit blanket is.
- Sleepers who want a fairly thick blanket should appreciate this blanket.
Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket Complaints
- Shoppers who want a heavier blanket than 15 pounds should consider another blanket, as it is only available in two different weights: 10 and 15 pounds.
- Not being able to machine wash this blanket is a definite con for anyone with kids, pets, allergies, or anyone who is prone to making messes.
- If you want a weighted blanket big enough to share, this one is likely too small.

Can weighted blankets help you get a good night’s sleep?
The short answer is… maybe. Weighted blankets provide Deep Pressure Touch or Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT), which is the same sensation we get from hugging or cuddling that encourages our nervous system to produce more serotonin and melatonin and reduce cortisol. DPT can help relieve anxiety or calm you down before bed, but it’s no guarantee. Weighted blankets are also used therapeutically for ADHD, autism, anxiety disorders, and more.
What are the best cooling weighted blankets?
When shopping for a cooling weighted blanket, I recommend either looking for something that is breathable or that incorporates cooling materials, like Phase Change Material. Knit blankets, like the Brooklyn Bedding Chunky Knit, are usually pretty breathable, as are blankets made with natural materials like cotton and linen. Some blankets incorporate things like Phase Change Material that make the blanket physically cool to the touch.
