The Casper Original is an all-foam mattress that is a great option for back sleepers who want a balance of support and pressure relief. Combination sleepers will appreciate this mattress’s responsiveness, which makes it easy to change positions throughout the night. This mattress is also a good choice for couples due to its responsiveness and ability to isolate motion. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

“It’s worth mentioning the Casper is zoned for support. So, it uses firmer foams at the lower back for extra lift, and softer foams at the shoulders for extra cushion around pressure points. This combo is nice for sleepers suffering from lower back or shoulder pain, since it helps keep the spine in a healthy alignment without creating stiffness in the shoulder area.” – Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor

With soft foam and a sturdy layer of innerspring coils, the DreamCloud strikes a balance between comfort and support — a little bit of contouring up top and on-top-of-the-bed feel that comes from the bottom. The Emma mattress is an all-foam bed, meaning that it includes four layers of foam in its construction and it doesn’t include any coils or springs. However, these are not all layers of memory foam (which you might have been thinking). Instead, the Emma uses Point Elastic Airgocell foam, HALO memory foam, and HRX (High Resiliency Extra) Supreme Foam throughout its build. These dense foams create a firm mattress, which is actually uncommon for this kind of bed. Because of this firmness, the Emma is a good fit for back, stomach, and combination sleepers who like more of an “on top” feel to their mattress. Check out more in our video review.

“I think the Emma is a great choice for back sleepers. Although this is an all-foam mattress, it should have the right combination of comfort and support that these folks need. Stomach sleepers should also find the support they need.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

The Helix Dawn is one of the firmest mattresses offered by the company. Its construction provides good comfort for heavy people and stomach sleepers, both of whom need extra support to keep from sinking uncomfortably below the mattress surface. Like the other Helix mattresses, it can be upgraded to the Luxe version if you’re willing to pay a little extra for luxury features. To learn more, check out our video on Helix mattresses.

What our tester says:

“I really appreciate how supportive these mattresses are. Stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and heavy people (those over 250 pounds) could all benefit from the firm feel of this bed. No matter which model you choose, the Helix Dawn really delivers on lumbar support.” Logan Block, former Sleepopolis content director and mattress tester

The Loom & Leaf mattress by Saatva has the classic memory foam that allows you to sink in while still providing ample support. This mattress comes in two firmness options, Relaxed Firm and Firm, so you can choose the right one for your sleep preferences. With four layers of foam, this mattress provides deep sinkage and body contouring to help with aches and pains, especially for those with more sensitive joints like seniors. For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

“Finding this sort of edge support in a memory foam mattress is quite rare, so this feature makes the Loom & Leaf really stand out. I think both couples and heavier sleepers would appreciate the support and durability the edge support provides.” – Logan Block, former Sleepopolis content director

The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: it’s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. What our tester says:

“I think back sleepers are going to love the Nectar Classic. These sleepers will get plenty of support from the firm memory foam in the Nectar Classic, which should translate to great pressure relief and a good night’s sleep. Similarly, lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers should find that they get enough support around their hips to sleep comfortably on this mattress. The Nectar Classic is firm enough to keep these sleepers’ spines in a healthy position.” – Kenny Timper, staff writer and certified sleep science coach

The Nectar Premier is a luxurious all-foam mattress equipped with quality materials. A moisture-wicking cover and gel-infused comfort layer create a cooling, thermoregulating mattress for hot sleepers. Perhaps its strongest attribute is its next-level pressure relief. Six inches of foam work to contour sensitive areas, but the high-density foam at the bottom of the bed provides plenty of support. Watch our video review to learn more.

What our tester says:

“My favorite thing about the Nectar Premier is its great pressure relief. This medium-soft mattress is a great fit for side sleepers looking for plush comfort. It might also be a nice fit for sleepers who deal with shoulder pain.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

A mattress made for sleepers weighing 250+ pounds, the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ utilizes individually pocketed coils and other quality materials to create one of the most supportive beds on the market. Still, it tested incredibly for pressure relief, and should provide pain alleviation for back and side sleepers battling back, shoulder, and hip pain. This luxury option features lots of cooling features as well. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

“As a mattress designed for heavy people, who weigh 250 pounds or more, I think the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ really succeeds. It is highly supportive, responsive, and yet also offers plush comfort. I particularly appreciate how it could work to relieve pressure points for heavy side sleepers — many mattresses for heavy folks are on the firmer side and don’t provide tons of cushioning.” – Amelia Jerden, senior staff writer

The Nolah Original 10″ mattress is created with Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam. This material mimics the body contouring provided by memory foam, but without the heat trapping. The Tencel cover aids with additional cooling. With soft foams and solid support, this mattress is best for back and side sleepers. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

Overall, I think this mattress could be a good pick for couples. Looking at the motion transfer results, it’s a safe bet that you won’t be disturbed by your partner tossing and turning at night. I would suggest couples purchase a queen-size mattress or larger, since the edge support on this mattress is just okay and it may be more difficult to comfortably sleep on the full surface of the bed.” – Madison Schaper, former staff writer

The Saatva’s coil-on-coil construction provides a classic innerspring feel. It’s a good option for combo sleepers, who will want to feel free to switch positions and avoid feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It comes in three firmness levels, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs. The white glove delivery Saatva provides is an added perk and will save you the headache of getting rid of your old mattress (they take it away for free!). For more information, watch our video review.

What our tester says:

“The Saatva Classic’s springy surface is perfect for combination sleepers looking for ease of movement as they toss and turn throughout the night. Also, back sleepers are perhaps best suited to the bed’s lifted support and balanced cushioning from the pillow top.” – Livvi DiCicco, staff writer and certified sleep science coach

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a firm yet bouncy bed. The latex foam and coils make this mattress very supportive, which can appeal to back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and sleepers weighing over 250 pounds. This bed is also very responsive, which makes it a solid choice for combination sleepers who need to easily change sleeping positions without getting stuck. We consider the Saatva Latex Hybrid to be a durable mattress made with high-quality materials, and the lifetime warranty indicates it should last you for many years to come.

The WinkBed Plus is a medium-firm, hybrid mattress designed specifically to accommodate sleepers with larger body types. Through our testing, we found it works best for back sleepers, particularly those over 230 pounds. It also does a good job of isolating motion, which will likely appeal to you if you sleep with a partner. If you want to learn more about the WinkBed Plus, check out our video review.

What our tester says:

“This mattress was designed with plus-size sleepers. However, I think the Plus in its name could also be a nod to all that this mattress has going for it. By using testers with different weights and body types, we learned that this mattress can also be a solid choice for many lightweight and average-weight sleepers.” – Sosha Lewis, senior staff writer and certified sleep science coach

The WinkBed is a luxury hybrid mattress. It has a similarly supportive and sturdy feel to a traditional innerspring mattress, but upgrades like a Euro top and cooling Tencel cover give it a touch of modern luxury. Available in three firmness levels, there is a WinkBed for just about every sleeper. And a responsive and bouncy feel makes it a great pick for combination sleepers. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

“If you like the feel of a traditional innerspring mattress, the WinkBed could work for you. Since this bed offered great pressure relief around my lumbar region, I’d also recommend it to folks who suffer from lower back pain.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

We definitely think this is a cooler-sleeping mattress. We measured its temperature increase with our thermal gun, and found it to have good cooling capabilities

If you’re a Canadian resident looking for a versatile foam mattress, set your sights on the original Douglas mattress. Different foam layers give the mattress its softer foam feel (some for cooling, some for contouring, and some for support), but you should still find ease of movement on this bed. Its cooling features and impressive testing scores show us this bed is suitable for a wide variety of sleepers. For more, see our video review.

What our tester says:

“My favorite thing about the Douglas was its benefits for combination sleepers. Not only is it just soft enough to keep them comfortable, but it also allows them to change positions and move around with ease. It has a memory foam feel that should conform to the body quite nicely, which will be a plus for side sleepers as well.” – Logan Block, former Sleepopolis content director and mattress tester

What our tester says:

“I really appreciate the balance of pressure relief and bounce this mattress offers. The Helix Sunset is the softest model in Helix’s mattress collection. This hybrid mattress is constructed with two layers of soft foam and a layer of individually wrapped coils. The top layer of memory foam is made from Copper Gel Memory Foam and High-Grade Helix Response Foam. Together, these soft foams work to gently cushion the sleeper’s most sensitive joints. The layer of coils below provide, lift, support, and a bit of bounce. We think this mattress is a great pick for side sleepers, who typically need a soft mattress to cradle their hips and shoulders.

What our tester says:

“The standard Helix Sunset model has a typical memory foam feel that should work well for back and side sleepers. It excels at being pressure-relieving around the joints, especially the shoulders, hips, and knees.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and staff writer

The Helix Sunset Luxe is the softest model in Helix’s luxury lineup of hybrid mattress. It’s constructed with two layers of foam and a layer of individually wrapped coils. After the cushioning pillow top, the top layer of memory foam is made from Copper Gel Memory Foam and High-Grade Helix Response Foam. Together, these soft foams work to gently cushion the sleeper’s most sensitive joints. We think this mattress is an especially good pick for side sleepers, who typically need a soft mattress to cradle their hips and shoulders. Learn more in our Helix Luxe video reviews.

What our tester says:

“The Helix Sunset Luxe is very similar to the standard Helix Sunset model, but it’s two inches thicker, has five layers in its construction (the standard Sunset model only four), uses zoned support, and includes a more cooling cover than the standard Sunset model offers. However, both models should work well for similar sleepers, especially back sleepers and side sleepers.” – Logan Block, mattress reviewer

The Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep mattress is an organic, latex hybrid mattress that’s supportive, bouncy, and natural. We think this bed is a great pick for heavy weight sleepers (those weighing over 250 pounds), and these folk should feel supported and comfortable. We also like this firm mattress for stomach sleepers, as it can help keep their hips propped up and promote proper spinal alignment. If you sleep on your back and prefer a firmer feel, then this mattress could be a nice choice. We also appreciate how cool this mattress sleeps due to its breathable latex foams and airy coils.

What our tester says:

“The EcoSleep is a responsive mattress. Changing positions will probably be easy for most people. Even if you sink into the latex a bit, you’re not going to get much of a contouring feel from this mattress.” – Logan Block, former content director

The Silk & Snow Organic mattress is a great choice for shoppers wanting an eco-friendly mattress. This mattress is also very affordable and could be a great find for budget shoppers.

What our tester says:

“Back sleepers should really like the Silk & Snow Organic. I think they’ll enjoy the zoned support the mattress offers, which means it has a softer feel under the head and leg area to allow sinkage in those zones — while keeping your hips at the right height.” – Bridget Chapman, former senior product editor

Made with organic cotton, wool, natural latex, and recycled steel coils, the Avocado Green mattress is an organic, latex hybrid mattress that provides sleepers with responsiveness and strong support. We think this bed should be especially comfortable for back sleepers and combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night. Also, innerspring coils promote airflow and latex is a naturally porous material, so this should be a good choice for hot sleepers who need a cooling mattress. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

With a dynamic foam design, the 5 Little Monkeys mattress should support a variety of ages. Your child can start sleeping in it as early as 5 years old, with the bed lasting until they’re at least 13. And despite a dense, all-foam construction, we actually found that this mattress sleeps quite cool. Learn more in our video review.

What our tester says:

“Finding the perfect first “big kid” bed for your child can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. As you begin your search, stay on the lookout for ultra-soft foams as they’ll be able to better support your child’s light frame. You’ll also want to ensure that the bed is durable enough to hold up through marathon jumping sessions and pillow fights. And finally, you’ll want it to sleep cool, so find a bed designed with temperature regulation in mind. In my opinion, the 5 Little Monkeys mattress checks all these boxes with its gentle comfort and transition layers, solid foundation and cooling gel-infused memory foam.” – Logan Block, former content director

Even though it’s a hybrid mattress with a layer of springs in the support layer, the Casper Atlas Hybrid gave me a soft and contouring feel. I think it could be really comfortable for folks who sleep on their sides, while still being supportive enough for back sleepers. Learn more in our full video review.

What our tester says:

“This bed is responsive and bouncy enough for light and average-weight combination sleepers. These sleepers shouldn’t have any issues switching between different positions at night. I would [also] recommend this bed to lightweight and average side sleepers with shoulder pain. During the pressure relief test, my colleague and I found that this bed did a good job of relieving tension around the shoulders.” – Kenny Timper, staff writer
